Another idea for a low priced add-on, incorporating the Fowler 4F and Stanier 8F for a steam based timetable on the West Somerset Railway route. These would need small livery modifications to make them look more clean and shiny, as many preserved steam locomotives are kept in pristine condition when operational. Simply layering in 1960's guise stock would look too out-of-place. Featuring: Fowler 4F No. 44422 Worked as a resident steam loco on the line between 2016 and 2019, before moving to the Churnet Valley Railway for overhaul. Stanier 8F No. 48624 Visitor to the railway as part of the Spring Steam Gala in 2016, themed on the closure of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway (where LMS-designed locomotives were commonly seen). Other locomotives could include Jubilee Class 45690 and 45596 from the West Cornwall Steam Railtour pack, along with resident diesel locos D1010 (Class 52), D1661 (Class 47), D4107 (Class 09) and D6566/D6575 (Class 33) for a mixed timetable or static display. Thoughts?
Good call but in the medium to long term the route needs some GWR locos and stock, maybe a Pannier tank and a Hall class tender loco.
We definitely need some proper GWR kettles at some point, ideally with a period route to suit. For now though this is a good compromise to get some steam on WSR using what we've already got in a mostly realistic fashion.
Bring it on and for WSR does it have a resident GWR 57xx Duck GWR 14xx Oliver and also a resident Toad brake van or not? If so then they can be added here as GWR steam loco and rolling stock alongside the 4F & 8F locos. Why not consider some GWR steam locos here if applicable to do so.
Can I inform you that 44422 was never offically a resident of the WSR. She is/was the flagship engine of the Churnet Valley Railway and moved to the WSR in December 2014 on a long term (25 year) loan. The loan was terminated in January 2019 and on December 3rd of the same year, 44422 returned home to the Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire. She is awaiting overhaul however it might be a long time until said overhaul is started as they [the CVR] are currently restoring a LMS 8F (48173) and a USATC S160 (3278 "Franklin D. Roosevelt") and have a BR Class 25 and 20 awaiting overhaul aswell as a Andrew Barclay 0-4-0
Thank you, I was under the impression that the locomotive was being leased by the WSR for regular use, alongside the other locomotives owned/based at the railway (therefore becoming more of a resident locomotive as opposed to a short term visiting locomotive). Although it wasn't particularly long term if it spent only three years in service before needing another overhaul.
