About The Western Pacific Railroad (reporting mark WP) was a Class I railroad in the United States. It was formed in 1903 as an attempt to break the near-monopoly the Southern Pacific Railroad had on rail service into northern California. WP's Feather River Route directly competed with SP's portion of the Overland Route for rail traffic between Salt Lake City/Ogden, Utah, and Oakland, California, for nearly 80 years. The Western Pacific was one of the original operators of the California Zephyr passenger line. In 1982, the Western Pacific was acquired by the Union Pacific Corporation and it was soon merged into the Union Pacific Railroad (map from 1914) Rollingstock EMD FTA & EMD FTB EMD F3A & EMD F3B EMD F7A & EMD F7B EMD FP7 EMD GP7 EMD GP9 EMD GP20 EMD GP35 EMD GP40 EMD GP40-2 GE U23B GE U30B EMC SW1 EMD SW9 EMD NW2 EMD SW1500 Alco S1 Alco S2 Alco S4
We absolutely need the WP's Feather River Canyon Route added to TSW4/TSW5. The Oroville-Portola expanded version from TS Classic would be awesome. Of course, the California Zephyr is a must-have for this route. The passenger cars should have interior views, especially the dome cars. Plus, the route has fantastic scenery, not-so-steep 1% grades, lots of bridges and tunnels, and of course, the Keddie Wye and Williams Loop (similar to the Tehachapi Loop at Walong, CA further south).
