This is happening to me all the time on my Series X. It was never a problem on TSW2 but seems to have appeared since TSW3 released, I was hoping it may have been fixed in the last patch!

From poor stuttering FPS, to pop in scenery, to floating bushes inside tunnels on the Kassel route, it is clear that TSW3 remains in an "early access" state. And given the sheer volume of issues mentioned in today's roadmap stream it is also clear that QA (as has been droned on again and again for years now) is lacking. On Xbox this is just another poorly ported PC game. TSW2 was leaps and bounds superior on Xbox (any version) than TSW3, so if you want a train simulation fix, stay with that. Unless you want to live through the months and perhaps years long frustration of TSW3 which may never be fixed. If you're on the fence, try it on GamePass for a month. You'll at least not have invested full funds into the beta testing program.

It runs TSW2 brilliantly, so I'd say it's worth it if you have that.

Yeah really not good having stuff pop up 100 metres ahead of you. TSW2020 may have had its issues but it didn't have anything quite as immersion killing/game breaking as this!

Yes, the same thing happens on ps5 as well and it's horrible for the eyesight and the gaming experience.

Played SEHS today and remembered to look for the cement train outside st Pancras. I spotted a single cement wagon…. And then 5 seconds later a second, a third, a fourth etc Never got to see the loco they were attached to tho as my speed was higher than the rate at which they could spawn in. It was also nice to see the steam from a railtour service approaching kings x….. no loco, just the steam!

I've said it before, this game is not optimized for xbox series x. Just look at Forza Horizon 5 to see a game done right for xsx. TWS3 is poor crap on xbox. I don't think they performed any QA at all. I would love to see them live stream from xbox. They are probably to ashamed to do that. It would demonstrate the shotty programming immediately. I'm so sorry I purchased so many routes. TWS2 is no gem either.

Or even look at Microsoft Flight Simulator running on Series X. Buttery smooth frame rates with worldwide high resolution detail. There's also a robust underlying physics engine in that sim as well. So I do tend to agree that TSW3 was rushed (like any other game these days) to meet a street date. Focus was on getting the PC version to be "good enough" while the consoles were rushed afterthoughts. As I said before this is very much an "early access" or even worse a full price beta sold to the public without any such banners. A real shame.

Kind of proves my point that the game was released in a beta state. Aware of major problems, but sending it out the door anyways is a disingenuous way of doing business.

I am still using my Xbox1 and have not had those type of issues yet. I do have a fair number of other things happening, just have to do a bit oof editing, I recorded with OBS on my ole PC. But I do agree with the OP and others that is not good, not at all.

From the explanation given during the roadmap stream we won't see any improvement any time soon. They seem to find it acceptable.

Is dynamic weather really so processor intensive? Because that seems to be the headline addition when stepping from TSW2 to TSW3 unless I’m missing something.

There’s generally a temptation to upgrade as soon as possible as the next version must surely be an improvement on what came before, but I’m not seen too many killer new features to make me upgrade so I’ll be sticking with TSW2 for the foreseeable future.

I'm considering deleting TSW3 from my Series X and going back to TSW2. That way I can get my train fix without game breaking pop ups!

I keep it on a spare expansion card. I have it plugged into my Series S so that I see every time it has an update, and then I can go and check it again, but my Series X has TSW2 installed and that's the main thing I am playing for now.

It is pretty telling that since the first announcement of TSW3 there has never been a promotional stream done on console.

Of course it can be improved. They just need much better talent from the top down to do it. I don't hold much hope this current group can do it.

Nope, all consoles are built the same. You are simply choosing to ignore the obvious.

The videos and experiences noted in here clearly show a good few people are having these issues.

Good for you that you aren't though!

Some people just choose to look past the stuttering frame rates and pop in objects / scenery. The experience is consistent across the console family, but some will live with it as not being an issue. Perhaps the older TSW2 routes work fine. I haven't tried them as I stopped using the game after the horrendous experience on the 3 new routes.

There is always one outlier StrikeEagle, I would just ignore him. I know I've posted enough video evidence by myself to prove our point. Never mind all the other posts that do the same.

Could the draw distance be a little better? Sure. It’s not as good as some games but surely not horrible.

Does it stutter a little bit? Yes it does. I’ve seen better games than this do that. I’ve certainly seen worse.

The only garbage is your “video evidence”. I’ve drive a couple thousand miles on tsw3 … old routes new routes are all the same. I’ve seen some odd stuff that could be better with the performance but never was your “evidence” shows.

the game runs great and the good thing is that this is the worst it’s going to be because they are going to keep making it better.

it will never have the draw distance of fenyx rising or forza horizon 5 or gta5 but it’s fine.

Now go on please I’m begging you to ignore me because I’m pretty sure you won’t

I must say, whilst performance in TSW 3 (new and old routes) isn’t perfect, on my PS5 I haven’t noticed anything particularly jarring either with stuttering or scenery pop in (although a particular bridge on Cajon Pass was floating in the distance for a while until the hills either side were eventually, slowly drawn in).

That said the more optimisation the better as shadows on the track are very poor and very distracting and some closer up scenery could be drawn in quicker on most routes.

I haven’t seen much evidence of optimisation over TSW 2 on TSW 3, but TSW 3 runs decently (for now).

I generally get good fps on TSW3, what kills the experience though is the AI locos and rolling stock popping up infront of me 100 yards down the line.

On SoS for example I'll initially see the steam and smoke from an approaching AI train and then when it gets about 100 yards away from me the rest of the train magically appears out of thin air.

Which "better" games have stutter on gen9?

    --

It needs the draw distance of Forza Horizon. TSW is a driving game so it should aim at that quality.

I know DTG keeps saying they have an underlying physics engine blah blah blah that adds to the workload. Perhaps the Unreal Engine isn't up to the task for such a program as other simulators perform much better (i.e. Microsoft Flight Simulator)? But I agree that increased draw distances and even a locked 60FPS should be the norm for this kind of game. Something must be poorly implemented in TSW3 if something like the Training Centre is a stuttering mess going around the circle. And if draw distances are so short you'd think that there is a relatively small circle of detail surrounding you at any time (other than the loco itself). Hence why such poor performance most of the time?

There have been plenty suggestions and speculation based on how DTG have been seen editing the game on streams and the like as to possible causes of it running so poorly.

60fps is basically my minimum requirement to consider something a viable product, hence TSW2 passing muster but TSW3 not.
