Hi I'm looking into playing train simulator classic and was wondering what does the HUD show eg what the signal ahead is set at? Are there options to have stopping markers on the screen that show where along the platform you are supposed to stop? And is there a auto firing option for steam locomotives and if so how effective is it? Thank you for any information you can give
Regarding signal aspects, no, the HUD doesn't show what the signal is currently displaying, but it will show how far ahead the signal is. Stopping markers/platforms, technically yes. By default, it will show every marker/platform/siding that is attached to the particular section of track you are driving on, but in (some) scenarios, it will usually only show the markers/platforms/sidings that are relevant to the scenario in question. There is an auto-fireman available, but you have to turn it on in the settings menu, under the "Gameplay" section. I don't drive steam all that much, so I can't really say how effective the auto-fireman is, but I think its effectiveness may also depend on how the locomotive in question was coded, and what the associated parameters are. Hope this helps!
Look on the 2D map/track plan and it shows aspects in advance (as long as you know which way you're going).
TSW3 is for people who like to drive a train but don't wish to know how a railway operates. With TSC the Signals tell you what to expect - A Green Signal tells you you have a clear route ahead and you just have to watch your speed. In the UK you won't go from a Green to a Red without an intermediate Yellow or Double Yellow signal. This might be of use.
Thank you for the video my problem is I have ADHD and while I love driving the trains my attention still wonders more than I like so if I miss a signal is there a save feature in train simulator classic so I don't have to start again?
Surely you only need to know which are red in advance, and you already do, as it will be preceded by a single yellow... and before that double yellow etc. No idea how other countries do it though, but there must be a system, or you wouldn't be able to safely drive a train at speed.
There is a save progress feature, but you'd have to be constantly saving all the time... kind of spoils the fun if you're constantly hitting escape to bring up the menu.
You can save by pressing the Esc key for the quick popup menu or F2 to bring up the save button. I save every now and then just in case something happens and I don't want to restart my run all over again. But I prefer not knowing what the next signal will be so I can act as realistically as I can and accordingly when I see specific signal aspects, makes it a more immersive experience in my opinion.
If you are driving a modern UK Route it should have AWS magnets where a Green Signal just sounds a Bell or a Ping. Yellow and Red Signals give an Audible Warning that has to be cancelled or you get a brake application. Those AWS sounds do help you concentrate.
But only any good if you're a cab bound driver (like me), a lot of players I've discovered prefer a continuous outside view treating the sim more like a model train set, a lot of stock doesn't have outside audible AWS so rely on catching the warning display on the HUD. I'm just saying it's easy to forget that some people play the sim differently to how we play it ourselves so often the obvious solution to us isn't applicable to them.
As the OP has not yet purchased the game I doub't if RWEnhancer2 would be a day one purchase. And if the OP might get distracted and go past a yellow or red having the AWS already cancelled won't help That auto acknowledge might be the problem somebody mentioned in another thread though
All valid points Peter, it was the only thought I had on not missing an alert, tbh the one that catches me out 99% of the time if I'm outside is not adverse aspects but the advance speed reduction warnings. Mk1 eyeballs and ears it is then.
I have to agree. Learning a route is fun. Not really practical with longer routes, as it takes a lot of time, but with shorter routes it's actually fun to learn it, and switch off the HUD entirely.
Yes, and the HUD has kind of a psychological effect, making you "dumb", not trusting anything you see in the game world, not even your loco gauges. I notice that effect too when watching Youtube videos with subtitles - even when I'm understanding perfectly what's being said, I can't take my eyes off the subtitles, sort of feeling I'd miss out on something then. Scores off - HUD off - real sim!
I suppose the difference, for UK routes, between the game and real life is the game will always send you along the correct track In real life the driver has to know if the route the signal is showing is correct for him. And the driver has to know from memory what the maximum speed is over every line he signs. In Europe the driving is different as the Signals tell you how fast you should be going at the signal.
That depends on the country - many have signalling systems similar to the UK - and such signals usually do not slow the driver down for stops at stations etc.
Which routes do you mean? Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech & Slovakia all use speed signals for Junctions. In the UK the Signals don't slow the driver down for stops at Stations, same in Europe unless it means crossing to a different track. And the driver is told the train is taking a different route and it is up to the driver to know what the speed is and from where.
I'm having ADHD (the "quiet dreamer" not restless type) too, but can hyper-focus on things I love and that are of interest to me luckily.
You think you guys have problems, I have IWS (Interfering Wife Syndrome) and HTWFAL (Have To Work For A Living) and between those two afflictions I can barely get 5 minutes peace to play the bloody game.
Exactly - they use them for junctions. They don't necessarily use them to inform the driver of speed limits outside junctions. Exactly, hence route knowledge is still required for such things as knowing when to start braking for station stops.
And there you go assuming everyone should enjoy the game the way you play, I personally like the HUD (F3 HUD not F4 Fisher Price Controller HUD) I don't intend learning every route I play (seeing as I have nearly every UK route available) so I require that additional info.
No.. just agreeing with him. Just saying that learning a route is fun. I never said learn every route either. In fact I said it's not practical to learn the longer ones. Not sure why you're being so snippy.
