PS5 What Has Been Changed To Ruin Performance So Badly On Ps5?

    Good day all.

I've seen this discussed on Reddit, maybe here too (You really need app based access to be made available to us for this forum!). When I first started playing TSW3 on PS5, the difference in experience was incredible. Everything looked beautiful, even legacy routes such as Peninsula Corridor which looked awful on a PS4, looked good! Smooth running, beautiful locos and scenery. No more scenery pop ups, no more detailed textures jumping in at the last moment.

I still play across both generations of console, the difference in quality and therefore immersion, was night and day. Two friends BOUGHT PS5 on my day so, because of the difference. Now, they're not so happy with me...

Something has drastically changed. On most routes - routes that ran PERFECTLY with great draw distances on shadows, on scenery, on textures - I am now getting the most awful popping in of textures. Jump cuts in the quality or colour of trees especially. The game is kind of running as it did on PS4. I'm not the only person seeing this, both friends are, as well as complete strangers on Reddit TSW subreddit!

I don't know what has been altered, to what gain, but it has massively degraded the entire experience. Please DTG, whatever has been changed, can it be changed back? Close up textures Jumping in on next gen, not a good look!

Hardcore plan of the game here. I own pretty much everything you ever made exc a few German routes (to be added this year!). I'm seeing this across pretty much the entire game, whereas up until a month or so ago, this didn't happen!

I noticed this too. I started playing tsw3 on my PS5 over the weekend for the first time since launch month of tsw3.
I have been on xsx since.

I was playing SEHS and shocked at how poorly the game ran. Very short LOD distance and very low choppy frame rate and lots of stutter. It was never this bad and I only have the base routes installed.

I've gone back to XSX. The game loads up way faster on PS5 but looks and runs terrible. Even herself commented on how bad the game looked and ran on PS5 watching me play.

Something is up with the PS5 version.

Nothing new, DTG is a specialist in building something decent and then messing it up. Or fixing one thing and in turn messing up three others. We have seen it countless times.

I still remember when the next-gen version was released and I couldn't wait to try it out. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised, compared to ps4 the game took only a few seconds to start, the routes loaded almost instantly, everything looked much more detailed with high quality textures and with a much greater drawing distance. And it ran incredibly smoothly at a rock solid 60fps. I thought these guys had done an excellent job and I expressed that here on the forums. This was version 1.00.

Well, here we are more than a year and a
half later, currently on version 1.42 and the game has only gotten worse since then. It takes almost two minutes to load, which is ridiculous nowadays for any new generation game. But hey, it might be bearable if it wasn't for the fact that in each session it's rare that the game doesn't crash and close several times, having to restart it again, and once inside I suffer freezes, stutters and lags constantly on all routes, the draw distance is a joke, the sleepers appear literally a meter away from the cabin and usually the rolling stock I find along the way is a deformed mass of polygons that never finishes loading. It all ruins the immersion.

I'm pretty disgusted with this situation, if we add to this that I bought the Rhine route more than two months ago and it hasn't received a single update since then, or the Niddertalbahn patch that despite having been provided by TSG a few days after launch, they have it hijacked without giving a single explanation of the reason makes my interest in the game has plummeted and I hardly use it because rather than enjoy it I suffer it and that is something intolerable considering that I have spent more than 1000 € on it.

And not only in ps5, looking at the steam graphs you can see that the number of players is decreasing every day, many customers are a little tired of this situation and losing interest, and if they do not make significant improvements I think they are going to sink like the Titanic :(

I don't think you've given a good example, NMS takes less than a minute from the time I press the game icon in the console menu until I'm in control of my character, TWS takes more than twice as long just to access the game menu!

Anyway, I'm not complaining that it takes a ridiculous amount of time, I'm complaining that the first version took only a few seconds and now, 42 updates later, it takes two minutes.

I said it months ago, the ps5 version of TSW3 runs worse than the series x version and it's not close

Which is bizarre as most games released lately run better on PS5 than XSX.

The PS5 version of this game has degraded since release. So has the XSX version but not as much.

I'd class the PS5 version as unplayable now.
The XSX version is having serious LOD issues that were not there 4 months ago.

Tbf, the series x has poorer performance than ps5 in some releases because the ps5 is lead dev platform and devs aim for parity rather than full potential.

TSW does seem to favour xbox, but (I'm speculating here), maybe the series x is closer to a PC dev kit than the ps5

Also, I've noticed a slight improvement playing from an external ssd with a faster read speed.

I have both the PS5 and Series X version, PS5 is not that bad (in fairness been playing TSW2 mostly until recently, so maybe not played much of the problem stuff yet) having said that the game needs some serious optimisation I suspect they don't have the time to do so with all the content they release, so its all over the place. Like all the bugs and glitches people will only put up with for so long. TSW3 can be amazing if it gets the time to make it work properly
