Does anyone one have any idea/opinion on what route is the most scenic and best looking on TSW4?

I would say it is between Blackpool Branches, Niddertalbahn, Peak Forest, and Suffragette Line. I have heard Berninalinie looks good as well, although I don't have it so I can't say.

    • Blackpool Branches - 1980's era route through Preston and Blackpool, mix of detailed urban and rural scenery, captures run down vibe of British Rail very well
    • Niddertalbahn - 1990's era single track route through rural Germany, forests, quaint villages
    • Peak Forest - steam era route through Peak District, hills, valleys, quaint villages
    • Suffragette Line - modern era route through London, detailed urban scenery

#1 for me is WSR. PFR and Nidder are pretty decent too. I don't have the others listed by people to compare yet.
MSB and Koblenz aren't bad, nice river routes.
Fife is getting there with improvements.

Goblin Line, Niddertalbahn and Peak Forest are all very scenic and well designed, but the Blackpool Branches route by Just Trains blows all the others out of the water.

WCL if it has been designed properly and accurately could have been the best but unfortunately it is the worst. The opportunity was there to create a first class route but unfortunately it was not taken!!!

My favourite route is WSR as it looks so realistic and I have travelled on the route so many times and brings back so many memories.

Yeah, there's two different answers aren't there: routes that are generally scenic IRL, but aren't always done well in TSW (like Arosa), or routes that are not traditionally considered scenic, but are, like the Goblin.

I agree about Salzburg - Rosenheim.
Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz - Koblenz Route, it is another one for me.
Of course Berninalinie, is clearly a very scenic one.
But I do not purchase that one..

Linke Rheinstrecke is my favourite route IRL, but the scenery is lacking - lacking the whole other side of the river.

Antelope Valley can be very scenic, especially the mountains, deserts, and palm trees.

    I agree with you. But...
As it is a some distance, and there you have also 2 tracks, and other railway infrastructure (stations, signals, etc), plus other scenery elements, it will require much more "resources" from the software and and hardware point of view.
Mainly also considering you have to concentrate on your track ahead.

What they could add are some extra features, like for example, some planes flying around.
It has roads, the river for boats - some of them could have some movement on the river, for more real environment.

It is one of my favorites routes!.
The DB103 is it an amazing locomotive! The design its unique!

The unloved Cane Creek is probably the most scenic line, certainly the last 10 miles to the end of the route. Just a shame it's a 25 MPH or less crawl for most of the way, which of course it is IRL.

For me, and by some distance, the most scenic route is Semmeringbahn.

i usually only ever buy and drive UK based routes, but frankly this was just too good to miss and it didn't dissapoint, incredible mountain scenery and it is very realistic when compared to the real life route too!

I haven't bought it yet (still working through the ones that I picked up recently on sale) but was thinking about it as a sort of stand-in for the Canadian Rockies route that I wished was in game. He is the timetable and the close-in scenery? The mountains in the play-throughs seem amazing, but can't really tell the little details of course.

i love it, it really takes something special to get me to buy any route that isn't UK based, but Semmeringbahn is just incredible.

the scenery (including the distant scenery) looks great, the timetable has a lot of life (i particularly enjoy the non-stop passenger runs that run the entire length of the line), there's a few instances of the external camera bouncing around in locations but that's because i drive using external camera in a front nose fixed position, but other than that to me there's no downsides to Semmeringbahn, and i have travelled this route in real life and to me they've captured the feel of the area really well.

in my honest opinion the last few dtg route releases (i'm thinking ECML, Suffragette, and here with Semmeringbahn) are some of the best they've ever created, so i would 100% recommend Semmeringbahn for the scenery for sure!

You can't deny that Cane Creek has its moments (Though the route gets held down in other places)

I understand why they didn't do it but it's such a key part of the route, being able to see trains and towns across the river. If they're not able to do it, there are plenty of other routes.

You can’t t beat the Swiss/Austrian routes for nice scenery, with the exception of Arosa whose basic hills let it down (think « Noddy Goes Alpine Hiking »).

After playing some more Nidder, I'm gonna have to say to me it's the best in the game (which could be entirely subjective depending on the scenery you like of course) It's well DONE in any case. The trackside, the animated assets (people, cars), wind effects, even the reflections of sky in the water... very nice.

My only concern is the speed limit.... 621mph seems a bit fast.....

Very intrigued by all the replies mentioning Rosenheim-Salzburg! I was initially a bit disappointed by the gameplay videos since the line-side scenery seems to look rather identical for the majority of the length, and there is no representation of the Chiemsee lake which would look amazing in the distance with the external camera. But it appears that many really like it nonetheless! What stands out to you specifically?

Cane Creek is certainly one of the most scenic routes, if you haven‘t fallen asleep and your alerter stopped the train before you got to the scenic part. (Yes, this really happened to me :|)

Other than that I will say Semmeringbahn, which I fell in love with immediatley.

Niddertalbahn and Linke Rheinstrecke are also up there.

Edit: Big honourable mentions to Bernina and Antelope Valley.

Heartily agree with those who have already recommended Niddertalbahn and Blackpool Branches. Both are stunning routes which raised the bar. Blackpool Branches especially is a large route with a lots of variety in services. I guarantee it will keep you entertained for a long long time.

I've not yet tried Semmeringbahn although it looks stunning and is on my backlog. Same for Peak Forest, which will definitely "pique" my interest if / when they introduce diesel traction.

It does, but it will absolutely MURDER your graphics card to accomplish looking that good. On the same settings which most routes get a solid reliable 60fps on, I have rarely seen Berninalinie remain consistently above 30. I basically gave up on playing it because I was needing to reduce the settings so far to get this one single line to run at a tolerable framerate.

I love Brighton to Eastbourne, beautiful Sussex countryside and coast well represented, surprised Vorarlberg hasn't been mentioned, easily the best alpine route imo.

Why do we have to manually place scenery around the route? During development, we use data radar to generate routes, so why not just generate a real city?

Most fantastic looking route scenery wise is Berninalinie without competition .We are talking about doing runs trough absolutely superb recreated valleys and mountains , climbing up over 2000m. As the real line is also a gem in the real world, TSW's version really does justice to it.

secondo me è la linea svizzera Ospizio-Bernina, è molto panoramica e considerata anche patrimonio dell'UNESCO, ma ovviamente dipende dai gusti.

The updated wsr is amazing, especially around the coastal areas of the route. The cathcart update is looking like it could be up there as well, particularly between Patterton and Neilston. Obviously there's blackpool branches as well, which blows pretty much every route before it out of the water

Not sure what game you’re talking about in TSW lidar data is used to map the terrain, everything else is manual becuase every city is unique, no 2 buildings are the same basically. What game almost instantly generates a replica of the real world?

Because the technology isn't there to create everything accurately. Even something as large as msfs that streams in bing map data and uses a lot of ai has areas where it's inaccurate and if you zoom in real close, it's low quality.

    Yes, I agree.
I did not bought it, due to the issues mentioned.
Its is very slow, just one track (mostly), so no much different driving experiences and traffic.
Even the beautiful scenic part - showed on the picture above by Blacknred81- is not all the route length.

Yeah, you only get those mountain scenes in the last couple miles. The rest is just flat and featureless.
Bit on topic but also off... did Niddertalbahn get TOD4 from the start? Did a run last night with a night, misty setting and the lights and animations were amazing. People are saying Blackpool is really good too... guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get it when I finish this one up.

Yup, Niddertalbahn came out a few months after TSW3 and thus had the current TOD system from the very beginning.

Edit: Of course the TSW4 launch automatically added volumetric fog to all the existing TOD4 routes, forgot about that. Maybe that’s the difference you perceived.

That could be it. Just didn't notice it on some other routes (and I like a lot of the daytime routes normally), but I keep forgetting that the routes came out at different times and have different levels, with different levels of updates.

Linke Rheinstrecke for me. Also Tharanter Rampe is a nice one. I really liked it on the Xbox one. Still have to play this route on my new Xbox in 4k :) .

I have an AMD 6700 XT and at 1080p with almost everything on Ultra and it drops sometimes to 45- 50 FPS from 60.

Still for the visual quality of the route has i do not mind some occasional FPS drops. I would mind the FPS drops if the route would look bad and still had FPS drops without justification, and again this is not the case for Bernina.

It is a very expensive Simulator, and the scenarios are not of good quality, and nothing changes every year.
Even ATS and ETS have better graphics than TSW4.
And don't come to me with this, it's going to be heavy for some PCs, Most games today are heavy.

    "Expensive" compared to what?
    Only the routes cost anything.
The base game is now free.
Your 'heavy" games mentioned are generally even costlier.
Of course you don't have to buy or play it.
You don't have to come on a forum of a game you don't like and complain either come to think of it.

The scenery in Blackpool Branches is so accurate. In TSC Just Trains took time to make it as accurately as possible. I watched loads of Tom Harrison route building video and know the effort he puts in to get it right. They have continued it in TSW. Preston to Carlisle will be the same quality and accuracy as Blackpool branches was.

I have spent time in Chur and can say that both Arosalinie and Berninalinie for me, although nice routes to drive, they are way off the actual scenery.

This thread is about scenery not scenarios or price. Perhaps you should create a thread and make it more of a discussion rather than a rant. Very bold for a first post.
