Hi all. I'm just installing TSC on a new laptop. I've just come across a dlc called Railworks 3 DTM Common. What is it? And what route/s if any does it apply to?
According to the depot, it includes sounds, couplings and number textures for the GE 44. Based on what it's included with I assume if you have either the UP or Pennsylvania GE 44s or both you'll need to have DTM Common installed too for them to work.
I would suggest this is a good presumption since it comes with both versions of the 44. It's like the Common Library coming with Just Trains routes; if you uninstall that and later add a new Just Trains route, you're going to see lots of missing textures.
Be aware that the DLC manager is not aware of dependencies - installing the GE44 through it will NOT automatically activate "DTM Common"... ! I've used SteamDB to setup a minimalistic TS, containing only the most common shared assets for old routes. (RSDL Foliage, UKLedSignals, APStation, ELAP, ULAP, etc..) I think this is a hidden cause for various reports about missing stuff I see on Steam forums. If you really think you don't need a certain DLC it's up to you checking its dependencies. I advise against uninstalling assets unless you know what you're doing. (Removing a route folder has no consequences though, and is useful for speeding up loading if you really don't need that route - but keep the assets! WS might need them. Whilst only needing storage capacity, they don't affect performance (except for Consist Builder - which is now being reworked)
If I read the post the other day correctly, it's NOT being reworked right now. It sounds like it's for a future phase.
Click on packages, then choose the subid which will then show the included apps. The app is the lowest level in the hierarchy - each app is linked to a depot of files. A sub (=package) can contain multiple apps. Here, it's the GE44 plus the DTM Common Assets which form the DLC. The highest level would be a bundle - containing multiple packages. The Steam DLC manager where you can tick and untick DLC only works on the App level so it knows of no dependencies (apps that form a package)
The quickest way is to change "app" in the URL to "depot". As many depots have cryptic names, they can only be accessed by going to the parent app (24010 aka Train Simulator Classic) - this offers a button to list all depots, but it's hard to find what you're searching for that way.
