It refers to different standards of coach brake control and emergency-brake override system (if a passenger pulls the emergency brake, in some circumstances the driver may want to stop the brake application). Notbremse Überschreiben = emergency brake override. The UIC and DB standards are incompatible (like trying to plug an Android charger cord into an iPhone). What I find amusing is that the sign pasted under it reads "UIC NBÜ-ep not allowed/Only 0 or DB NBÜ-ep permitted"-- and guess where the switch is invariably set in-game? Anyway, it has no effect on gameplay.
This switch sets the emergency braking mode. When the passenger applies the emergency brake, the train does not stop where it could not be evacuated. The emergency brake is switched off in tunnels on bridges or other inaccessible places. The emergency brake support mode is shown on the wagons. The place where the emergency brake is switched off is marked as follows at Czech Railways.
These are the markings on a Doppelstockwagen: it is equipped with both NBÜ and ep and so the switch in the loco should be set accordingly; but (as the pasted note says) it must be set to Deutsche Bahn NBÜ, not UIC* NBÜ. Now- when they upgrade passenger AI, if every once in a great while one of the buggers would pull the emergency handle........! _______________________________ *UIC: Union internationale des chemins de fer or International Railway Union is the international standards board for trains. Like most similar cooperative boards (IEEE, etc) its standards are recommendations only, since it isn't governmental and doesn't have regulatory powers
By the way that's also found on the back of the DB BR146.2 in Main Spessart Bahn. for me when I play both 146.2 & 185 I just leave on the default postion for both locomotives
Wait, so it's set to 0 for normal operation on passenger and freight and then set to DB NBÜ-ep in a passenger train when you need to override the passenger e-brake, such as when in a tunnel or on a bridge?
No, it's set up at the start to the trip: 0 for freight, appropriate "on" setting" for whatever passenger coaches you are hauling. The selector switch is not the override itself- that's a separate button the engineer can push in the event a passenger pulls an emergency handle. The selector switch just determines the mode.
Where is this switch located in-game? I know it's most likely not interactable, but I would still like to know where it is.
On the 146 and 185 it's on the back wall, the same panel as the emergency brake buttons. On some others, it's under the desk top to the right.
