I know that DTG wants to make routes from new places. But there are also customers, that wants to get 100+km routes for TSW2, like me. LGV Mediterranee is 105km route, which is a good thing, but it's still a bit short, due to it's a high speed route. High speed routes need to be more lengthy, if players want to get the full experience of driving a high speed train. Extending routes would be the only way to get routes that are enough long for high speed trains. I can't understand why there are no route extensions coming for TSW2. Yes, I know that new routes from new areas would be more interesting, but extending and merging routes would get routes much longer and more enjoyable and realistic to drive. But what about automatically merging routes? I don't know, is that technically possible, but automatically merging routes would be very great feature for TSW2. Example: DTG has made a route from Duisburg to Cologne, which connects two routes, Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr and Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen. Those three routes will merge, which creates a new, big route. This would be a great way for making big route networks. These can be built in small parts, which can be less complicated, than building a big route from start to end in a one part. We can get a full S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr for example, if this is possible. But again, I really don't know, is that possible. It would be also much more complicated to create a 24h timetable for a network consisting of more than one lines.
I think the main real problem is the price to sell a 3 times longer route or merged route, not anything else. But they could alternatively achieve that by triggering the autoload of services if invoking a route loading from other route is possible (I don´t know if engine allows that), provided that user owns the smaller routes DLCs. It could be done in the station platforms when one service is finished. You will just see a splash screen and then you would be at the next route+service, ready to continue. That still keeps routes and services independent to each other, which avoids possible errors, but allows you to run a longer ride. It´s basically what they already have in the journey mode, but automated and extended to several routes. The other option is just to include that in the journey mode, to be done manually and from the main menu. That´s the easy way. Take into account that merging routes leads to the problem of saving, which is not 100% reliable now, and it´s limited to one saving slot. So, either you do the 300km ride in one go, or you may have problems if you want to resume a trip in the middle. You can see they have used the approach to split some tasks into smaller services as well in some routes, as the gameplay would be too long for a single ride. Peninsula Corridor splits some of the GP38 deliveries into several shorter services, each one taking like 60 minutes to complete, and Sand Patch also does it for the coal delivery. Cheers
It’s choice. There are calls for extensions for nearly every route. There aren’t many routes to start with. If the first five routes made had been extended instead of five new routes being made then instead of ten routes to choose from you would only have five. What are we at now? 20 routes? That would only be ten routes with ten extensions. That’s very limited. In fact, the three routes you name in your post as an example would not exist yet because of extensions being made for the older routes instead.
I personally don see a problem with merging routes or extending routes. There are people who would eventually want to see extensions and dtg knows this but they also want to make new routes. I would rather have route extensions and I like geloxo idea about merging routes. The LGV route could be done in 34 minutes which is too short for a high speed route. DTG really needs to make longer high speed routes in the future as well in my opinion
