What Reason Do We Have To Believe That The Promised Updates For Tsw3 Will Come?

I don't like making a thread accusing DTG of dishonesty, but I really have to ask: why should we expect the situation with the promised updates to TSW3 to be any different from the situation with the promised updates to TSW2?

I would have thought you had your answer by now, from all the other threads you've raised this issue in and received replies.

Well we know that Matt's promises mean absolutely nothing! Take that as you will but I expect 3 to get probably one lot of updates a week or two after 4 launches and be dropped like a hot stone after that as a broken mess just like 2 was!

Not to get argumentative about it, but DTG don’t promise anything, they plan to release updates later. But, as we all know, sometimes plans go astray or don’t work out and then don’t get implemented.
    Just saying, that’s all :)

Yeah, unfortunately plans seem to go astray quite abit for DTG.

Really must suck for them that they had to make another game, before fixing the current one.

IIRC, DTG have promised precisely zero updates for TSW3, beyond the revised NYT timetable.

They've said they plan to release pretty much all the updates they said were coming before TSW4's announcement. Of course, whether or not they actually follow up on their promises is a different matter.

Is an intention a promise? It almost sounds like you might preface the statement with "I can't promise but..."

Why are you doubting the patches would not come to TSW3? As you can read they have the patches ready on day 1 in TSW4 which is understandable as you should be able to understand their focus is at the moment on TSW4.

I've seen a lot of gaming promises being broken in the last 2 hours from reviews about another game developer which makes me wonder what we are complaining about. I'm already sad DTG was not bold enough to set their release date to this weekend. My plans have changed for the weekend

Ummm... Are you new here, or just choose to ignore the whole thing about the TSW2 patches that were being promised for over a year just to be dropped and never released?

They will probably spend the last quarter of 2023 bug fixing TSW4, then after the new year it’ll be full steam ahead “secretly” working on TSW5. The concept of the original Preservation Crew seems to have unfortunately vanished.

Description of problem: Route XYZ sometimes crashes TSW3.
Solution: We suggest you upgrade to TSW4.
Thank you for contacting support. Ticket closed.

Description of problem: Route XYZ still crashing in TSW4.
Solution: TSW5 will be available in late September 2024.
Thank you for contacting support. Ticket closed.

Zero don't expect any fixes any time. TSW 5 could launch in 5 months for all we know. if TSW 4 sales bomb their first move will probably be shove another game out the door.

If TSW4 sales bomb it'll force them to not pull this sort of stunt again. TSW2 and 3 both had lower launch peaks than TSW1, with TSW3 being lower than 2. I'll quote myself as I already talked about this on another thread.

Really though, who cares about TSW1 and TSW2 patches? If you still play that version of the game then it’s your fault for playing the less updated version of the game.
I should imagine TSW3 updates will be available day one, since they’re being implemented into TSW4. Both TSW3 and TSW4 both use the same game engine. I forget what Matt calls it specifically. I know the word begins with D lol.

Hurray for paid patches! Such a great and consumer-friendly approach. Sell garbage, then ask more money for fixes.

Except TSW3 fixes will not be available on day one, as it has been confirmed.

Indeed people have, if they have been paying attention for the last year. We won't be getting them. Plain and simple. Any updates to TSW3 that are promised will never materialise as they will be too busy working on TSW5.

There have been a few fixes over time; jet-pack passengers, suicide passengers on Rapid Transit, floating trees, 187 using 185 sound, grade indicator backwards on Arosalinie, horn stuck on American freight, turning down the volume on the dang steam release valve, the Save Game issue and (most of) the red light issues etc. Not sure if these have been applied to an older version after a new version has been released.

I bought TSW2 early July and 2022 with all these road maps and saying updates were coming to TSW2, there was no TSW3 announced.
Less then 2 months later the game i just bought got zero updates and was abandoned.
If i new TSW3 was coming out in 2 months i would not have bought TSW2.
Spirt of Steam was a new DLC sold for TSW2 that got zero....... zero post release support. They sold a broken unfinished product. Then placed fixes for that product behind a pay wall called TSW3.
The worst part was, SoS was one of the TSW3 bundles. That included the fixes they said that were coming to TSW2 version. That never came. They could have given people who just bought Spirt of Steam a upgrade to TSW3 but #$%@ you pay us.
You see most companies announce games 6 months or more out. Giving people fair warning.
Most companies would try to live up to their obligations and roll out the final patches and fixes they said were coming before shifting to the new game.

    Case and Point Cites Skylines.
New game was announced like 10 months or more before release.
the amount of fixes and free content they released for the first game after the announcement of Cities skylines 2 is incredible.
I have owned Cites Skylines since day one and only had to buy the game once. They supported it for ten years. I bought all the dlc
NO fixes were locked behind paywalls. Cites skylines 2 will be a day one buy for me.

I bought TSW3 from a key reseller for a fraction of the price because i refuse to give more money to DTG to get fixes to the content I already bought.
When TSW4 was announced i uninstalled the game because i am not paying anyone yet again to get the half finished LOVE fixed.
DTG is reselling a early access game every year. The game does not even have direct input support. The fishing game i play no one has heard of has direct input support.

Locking future content and fixes behind pay walls for content you don't want is the worst business model.

These two patches included SoS fixes. Everything that was needed? Definitely not, and the derail bug the second patch introduced to the rest of the game was only partially addressed afterwards. But saying that SoS got zero support is untrue.

If each edition and DLC was being polished before they moved onto the next one, we wouldn't be having this conversation but as i've said in other threads, Its very concerning that a lot of the bugs aren't being fixed before TSW4 for content released before TSW4 - If this happened with a more mainstream gaming franchise, DTG would be the juicy steak tossed into a pit of dogs. They'd get absolutely torn to pieces. The executives know this and I feel are actively taking advantage of the community as a result.

Given the record of TSW3 I don’t see early access for TSW4 as being a perk. The early access for TSW3 had various bugs and none of the ones I’ve experienced have been fixed. Seems to make reporting bugs be a pointless exercise.

Someone said i was wrong for pointing out that this might happen to people but this is another example of why a paywalled update to the game is a really bad idea. They should give customers who bought TSW3 in the last 6 months a free copy of TSW4 at the very least.

Maybe not lies, but broken promises.
I've said this before: the decision whether to buy or not should be based on what is there, and not what they "promise" to add later. With that in mind, pre-orders are almost too high a risk, since you're only seeing what they want you to see, and they only answer the questions they want to answer. Best decision will be made after the release, looking at reviews, streams, recordings, posts from regular players, not staff or ambassadors.
If you buy something you know is broken, on the promise that will be fixed later, then you're partly at fault when the promise is broken. DTG have already shown us that their promises are not worth the (virtual) paper they are written on.

Yep. Been there with a few releases, not anymore. It just does not worth it to buy content on release. Even if something get fixed, it will take a year and probably another release by then. So you are best off by buying anything 1-2 years later when it actually might work as intended.

Fixes for TSW3 routes will be part of the launch package if you purchase some version of TSW4 and download your TSW3 routes. I suppose this means that whenever you buy TSW4, the routes that you own will come updated. It's a strange bargain, but it is what it is.

And, even though there's some vague promise of future patches, based on the statement about TSW2 fixes I wouldn't count on any TSW3 fixes if you pass up TSW4.

So, if you want, say, the updated NYT timetable, you'd be wise to buy TSW4 asap.

And, of course, if you want any future dlc, like the Preston - Blackpool route, you'll need TSW4.

I hope you got all that. There'll be a pop quiz later.

  38. DTG have said in their FAQ that beyond a couple of fixes for a couple of routes, there are no plans to update "obsolete" content. Their words, not mine
    .
Will Train Sim World 3 continue to receive updates?
There will be a short window after the release of Train Sim World 4 where Train Sim World 3 will receive updates focused on improvements to tutorials, scenarios and the Trenton – New York timetable. After this time, there will be no further updates

What is considered a legacy Train Sim World game?
Legacy Train Sim World games are those that are no longer being updated. This includes…

    • Train Sim World 2020
    • Train Sim World 2
    • Train Sim World 3

personally havent touched tsw 2 since tsw 3 but it is bad that every single roadmap for the past year they stated "tsw 2 updates are coming when we can sort a release window" over and over every month and now thats been dropped entirely

As far as I’m concerned routes downloaded into TSW4 become TSW4 routes/content. When they are downloaded into TSW3 they are TSW3 content. Given that people are misconstruing what is to happen it would appear that they are intentionally muddying the waters again. The truth is that fixes are coming for TSW4 content on release day, there are none coming for TSW3 or its content.

Beyond that, I wouldn’t hold your breath over any further updates being released for anything TSW3 related, anything that does come as a bonus. As they did last year they’ve said there will be something, so let’s hope they’re truer to their word this time.

I can no longer have any real trust or belief in anything DTG say because this is a path well trodden, once bitten twice shy (or is it 10 times bitten…?). I believe the advice to buy what you see in front of you (and not what DTG want you to see) and expect nothing beyond that is probably the best way to go. Make your peace with that, as I just about have, and move on. In other words, I don’t think the leopard has any intention of changing its spots.

At this point it is a given. If TSW4 does not flop in sales, then that means they can continue doing this each year - and they will.

Seems to me there were a couple of "unknown" updates this year, or at least there were no descriptions I could find. Sizes were in the 200-400 MB range. Not having a description available, not sure what these updates fixed. But I agree that TSW3 support will probably cease on Sept 26; as happened with TSW2 the year previous.

Most of what Matt promises can be described by a word beginning with "D" : Deceitful

Deceitful : Untrustworthy, two-faced, or fraudulent. Behaving in a dishonest way by making other people believe something that is not true. Attempting to mislead.

Cue the apoplectic dribbling 10k post fan boys in 5...4...3...2...1...
