With the supposed leak date of tsw4 being for the end of september this year, and even if it’s not, there’s no harm in speculating ideas, what’s some things/features you’d hope/like to see in the ‘new’ game? I’ll go first, personally i feel like a much improved scenario planner and livery editor are a must. Simple things in scenario planner like portals, turn backs and placing static ai stock are all things which would make scenario creations a lot more interesting. As for livery editor, we need more fonts and the ability to type words out so they move together, rather than having to awkwardly fiddle letters around to aline with each other. Another thing i think is needed is the ability to change your FOV when in the cab. All players have their own preference in terms of their FOV of choice so we need some sort of scrolly bar so we can customise this to our liking. We also desperately need the option to have all safety systems automatically turned on, which should be accessible in settings. Having to turn them all on when entering a cab is really immersion breaking especially as in reality they are all on by default (of course) Let me know some things you’d like/hope to see in the supposed ‘TSW4’ below
Announcements, livery editing, subway routes (including Chicago, NYC & London), more commuter rail & much more!
Better sounds. I want it to sound like I am on a railway. Reverb, track sounds, run sounds, etc. For example, the amfleets don't have that high pitched running sounds in tsw. Neither does the acela. I have been on these and know what they sound like Rough rail & dynamic cab sway: The cab sway feels awkward. Rail is not always smooth. They have it in diesel railcar simulator and american truck simulator where there is a random chance of there being like unevern track/roads, etc, causing the vehicle/train to bounce around dynamically & realistically. I have been on train rides and it is rare for it to be 100% smooth. Better rain/volume adjustments: The current rain is way too loud in cab. Tone it down and improve the visuals of it Experimental ai horn blasting: using horn @ whistle boards, crossings (could set down certain markers to start blasting horn). If that is too difficult, for US passenger routes, blasting horn while passing stations
Existing bugs fixed and all existing locos working properly would be a good start. Then for new features I’d settle for an enhanced scenario editor. I think there is still a lot that can be done to improve both lighting and weather. I also agree with the post above that there should be an option to start with safety systems on. It’s really annoying to have to set them up every time. I’m at the point now where I never drive without them. So maybe a difficulty level which should also include being able to turn the hints off. These are the biggest immersion killer in the game for me, especially on SOS when they seem to be popping up all the time.
Scenario Planner 2.0, I want it so badly, so very badly. I want to be able to scroll through the Creator's Club and find near endless content available for the routes and trains that I own. Seeing the creativity that some community members have to make unique and interesting scenarios would be a dream come true. Stuff like custom paths, dialogue boxes, a wide selection of assets to place onto the route, etc. would greatly increase the value of every single piece of content in the game. Improvements to the Creator's Club would be good. At the very least I should be allowed to search up "Sherman Hill" and get all of the scenarios set on Sherman Hill, and I should be allowed to search "Class 385" and get all of the liveries and scenarios that use that specific train. I also think scenarios and liveries should be sorted into more lists, besides just newest and featured. Perhaps a list that sorts them by how popular they've been in the past week or month would be good. Players should be allowed to customize their game experience to the way they like it. For one thing, players using a controller should be allowed to reconfigure buttons to serve functions that they'd find more helpful. At the very least, let us toggle the bell with a controller it's literally so inconvenient to have to return to the internal camera just to turn off the bell. Besides that, we should get the ever more highly requested layer toggle. If some players don't want to see a TGV on Southeastern High Speed, they shouldn't have to. Being in control over what trains we want to see layer and substitute onto our favorite routes is important in crafting the right playing experience for everybody. Make playing on foot feel like less of a chore. There are some spots that I find on routes that look like really nice spots to do some railfanning, but I can never get there because there's only so many places the route allows you to spawn in. Walking there would take too long. As such, the ability to use the free camera just by sitting on a bench would be lovely. Benches at stations for the passenger routes, and perhaps freight routes could offer a log near every spawn that we can sit on to access the free cam. Also, if we happen to want to watch a certain train pass by a nice location, and happen to spawn in the wrong month or the wrong time, make that experience easier. Instead of having to quite to the menu and fully reload the game into what we hope is the correct time, how about letting the respawn button let us change the month/weather/time and immediately respawn like that? Saves a whole lot of time for those of us that love to watch the virtual trains go by. A lot of words I just wrote there. None of these features justify the need for a Train Sim World 4, but if you're gonna make a fourth game, you better be improving the game greatly.
I would hope to expect to see the implementation of London, Midlands Mod for better lighting for the red yellow green train light aspects. I also would like to see better raindrops when it rains and I will write a list of things we should see especially for a new upgraded Train Sim World 4. List : stuttering fixed Rush hour passengers on all routes, including on London commuter Livery designer, version 2 Scenario planner version 2 Engine upgrade no specific version Multiplayer More optimized creators club Automated announcements on trains and stations Working save game Dispatcher version 4 Guard/conductor mode Further draw distance Random events in timetable mode Drivable vehicle in training center :x OK maybe not that one lol but that's more of my want and I will end the list there just because there's so many other things that are going to be mentioned in this thread lol. I will like to see everyone else's opinions, but will say I honestly want all of the above and can't help not to feel that way, but patience to say I hope with TSW 4 becomes a reality, I hope dovetail gives us something great
Problem is that not everyone can afford a series x if they already have a series s. Last gen removal makes sense. But tsw would still lose a lot of players since players own a series s cuz it's much cheaper and still runs okay.
The ability to toggle individual service layers for each route and the ability to create custom layers and add them to the timetable. I also want to be able to customise the mapping for controllers.
More than one save slot. Resuming a save game on a subsequent train you took over does not lose the objective data. More customisable graphics options. Agree with sound improvements as noted earlier, particularly reverb well overdue. Sort out the steam physics to at least the functionality of MSTS or TSC along with proper manual firing control. More Mark Ones including catering cars (!). More BR Classic era stuff generally. Another tube route - Northern or Central Lines in the mid 70’s. Decent scenario planner including access to all paths and spawn/takeout portals, complex timetable construction and a consist builder - even if PC only.
Working EBuLa More complex scenario planner Proper tagging/categorisation/etc. system for CC. I should be able to look up all of the liveries published for the LFR 110 without just searching for 110 and sifting through the results. More vintage content
An updated version of the bml with the 700 on it longer routes some new trains be added not re used ones
The main immersion breaker for me is the tree textures changing and flashing as they get closer and the shadow draw distance. The game can look really really good, almost like a real video, but then you notice the nasty tree textures and draw distance and boom, immersion gone. Other than that, the scenario planner and creators club need a massive overhaul to make them significantly more user friendly and more powerful, give us more and better planner tools. If they fixed those, everything else can stay as it is as far as I'm concerned.
Remove all stutter stable 60 fps on consoles HDR Disaster scenario's (for example a plant in the vicinity has exploded and there is helicopters and emergency services visible whilst you have to drive slowly) New Hud UI overhaul Accurate distance based on the tracks Force feedback PS5 Exclusive Adaptive triggers warning sounds via controller speaker Upgrade all older content to version 4 Better NPC's Improved dynamic weather highlighting collectibles when you look at them and make them clickable Less or even no loading screens with advertisement for new routes A sparkly rainbow unicorn
Maybe not for TSW4, but an improved Quick Play feature. As in, on a per route basis. In its current form, it just selects a random route and scenario/timetable service (or training module). Also, all current issues fixed (I should not have bright lights in tunnels when the train lights aren't even on and there is nowhere for natural light to appear). More end-to-end routes: BML is the only one that has complete end-to-end runs (Victoria to Brighton/Reigate/Gatwick. Longer routes. Most are currently too short or have little service variety. At least one/two routes which have all DLC based on the current timetable. If one particular service can be done with 3 different train types each of those would be available for that specific service. Many more, but I think I have already created a wishlist as it is.
Of all features only the scenario planner improvements would interest me, since the quality span changes between night and day inside dtg and compared to 3rd party, i wouldnt call it an improvement. Just too many times there was the word "we ran out of time . So scenarioplanner: - extended paths / sidings (for also static stock, cold and dark tickbox) - more tasks - limited consist editor (scenario / route based), not as a giant library Most important: livery manager -- a submenu, which allowes to select the liveries in use for specific route. This is outside scenario planner, but its a pain to have modern liveries in old era routes. The more rolling stock tsw has, the more messy this becomes.
Not a nitpick at all, it's very important for immersion, I mean if we do finally see a long stretch of the WCML, I would hate to see OHLE which is used on GWE, as we see on the WCML stretch of the Bakerloo route. It's just WRONG
This has been such a personal pet peeve, but a lot of headspans and pylons are incorrect in TSW, but I’ve kind of just let it slide because it’s short routes, but for a ECML/WCML the OHLE has to be correct, there is made a thread about it in case mods need it for reference https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/british-overhead-line-equipment-guide.40540/
More save game slots either one per route and maybe a few general ones, one is not enough. The ability to toggle layers so if you don't want to see a class 40 on WCL or TGV on SEHS you don't have to with play pak file tetris. A toggle to be able to start scenarios with safety systems turned on or off. I think they should be off as default for those who don't want to use them or are new to the sim. The driver only operating doors on DOO services so a system similar to TSC really where when loading is complete the doors shut and you get a buzzer from the guard or maybe a guards whistle for era appropriate routes.
Scenario Planner 2.0 Livery Designer Improvements (not much for now) Gen 8 Ditched Most people use Gen 8 as a scapegoat for all things bad with TSW, when really it's often nothing to do with Gen 8 or it's capabilities. However, there would be a bit less work needed in DLC Development if Gen 8 versions (and the cuts that have to be made) were absent from the process. Some people have said to Cut out Series S - no. Improvements to Creators Club, it hasn't changed since release... I would say "longer routes" but that has little to do with the game or the engine.
NO BUGS Replace the dynamic weather function with a Live IRL weather function (as in flight simulator) Other countries than US / DE / GB Timetable services start with time frozen, so player has ample time to setup the train correctly Freight timetable services with interactive industries (loading/unloading). Drive freight from A to B is getting a bit tiresome
My wish is that finally all loco duplicates in different stages of development / with different bugs would disappear. A technique must be worked on to make a global loco functional for all intended routes. Furthermore, I wish that the years of ignoring ancient bugs finally stops and a little more ambition is shown in bug fixing.
Pretty much impossible for any video game. So if I was playing a service that starts at 23:07, and the real life time was 14:32, how would that work? Or, as has been done on most DTG routes since BML, the player can be given the adequate time to set up, whilst the passengers get on, or, in the case of a freight service, before your next objective comes up. Considering TSW's dispatcher can be... easily confused... I don't think a Quick Drive mode could really work in TSW. Similarly to Multiplayer, the game isn't built for it.
Think I agree with most of the suggestions here including scenario planner and livery designer 2.0, ditch gen 8, improved performance, sounds, timetables and route lengths, announcements, passenger behaviours/fixes and add on a few of my own. 1) Fix the TSW3 lighting which since launch is still off in places such as over-bright/lack of ambient occlusion (AO) & washed out at times. 2) Steam locomotive manual fireman and physics improvements. I.e Steam 2.0 3) DLSS/FSR for graphics and performance improvements. 4) Continual bug fixes/bring back the team for retrospective updates, improvements and fixes.
I’ll agree to speculate on this, but for the record I really hope it isn’t TSW4 (an iteration every year is it now… and I thought every 2 wasn’t great) and it’s a Rush Hour type thing. Though as to what I would like to see is a lot of new features and not just the odd 2 or 3 things to even begin to justify the need for a new one 1. I would say fixes to core features like lighting and passengers to name but 2 etc (though needing to buy a new game to effectively fix the old is a sour tasting thing) 2. Usual 3 route bundle with it, no skimming down on that. Hopefully a variety of stock not just 1 new and the rest from other routes (though they could come as layers of course just hopefully not the main selling point) I can’t think of much more (hence a reason I don’t think TSW4 necessary at this point..)
One other item to throw on the mix, well several actually… Put train introduction and tutorials back on the actual route. Allow saving during tutorials. Advanced tutorial for safety systems etc. Stop marker off by default during training/tutorial. Fed up with having to keep going back into options every time and turning it back off.
I agree, we don’t need TSW4. TSW3 is very good in my opinion, but is hampered by some issues that really need to be addressed (lighting, passengers, game save slots). Time spent fixing those things would negate a lot of the criticism DTG face on this Forum. People on TSW2 are still waiting for fixes, TSW3 users are waiting for fixes, so why on earth would now be a good time to bring out TSW4, it really does defy logic. Or is it really, all about the money, money, money (credit to Jessie J & PriceTag for that) lol
- get rid off the Training Center - not multiple times the same Rolling Stock over many Routes (for example we have 5 or 6 Dostos's at the moment) - Task for Passenger Stops only completed when opening the doors and not when the Train stopps - Sitting on a Bench on every plattform - a higher Range to able to walk in the Envoirement - A (small) Passenger Counter in the HUD to see how much people were onboard
How about some new North American content for a change. And I'm not writing home about a couple of 3rd party repaints. For the longest time the forums have been talking almost exclusively about UK content. Even the Germans haven't had much to shout about.
Bit of a juxtaposition.. one can be used to get rid of the issue with number 2 (if it got done) besides what harm is Training Center doing ?
I would much rather do the tutorial on the proper route, particularly when it's part of the Journey mode.
More modes (Guards, Dispatchers) and this is a bit of a stretch, but I would love a signalling aspect to TSW
- Variation in station dwell times - Variation in running of AI services to create variation in signal checks each time you drive a given service - Temporary Speed Restrictions (different each time you play) - An invisible ai train, which runs in the path of every train in the timetable for which there is no suitable stock - so that you get the associated signal checks it causes, without the visual jar of seeing inappropriate stock. - More BR blue routes - WCML with AC tap-changer electrics (cl 81-87) - The ability to drive any train on any schedule in timetable mode - i.e. choose the schedule, then choose any train you own to run on it.
