There always seems to be lots of discussion about the best routes in the game, but what about the most well made trains? I want to differentiate between "favourite" and "best". You can't just say the 101 or 47 is the best because it's "better than the plastic rubbish in modern routes". I want to discuss the trains objectively. Do they look and sound accurate to the real thing? Are the physics accurate? How much functionality does the train have, for instance can you use all the safety systems, cruise control etc. For example, I think the best British train is the MML 158. It sounds very good, it's well modelled, the performance seems pretty accurate, and it also has the guard buzzer sound in the cab when closing the doors, which honestly needs to be standard for TSW. I also think the TGV and ICE 3 are among the best in the game, although there are other trains I "prefer" to them. For example I prefer to drive the 801 over the ICE, despite the fact the guard buzzer doesn't work, the sounds aren't brilliant and the speed set doesn't work.
Funnily enough the 101, mainly because it's very accurate - I used to commute on them between Liverpool and Manchester in the late 1980s, and DTG pretty much nailed the look, feel and sound.
you say the ICE 3 is among the best, have you heard it's sound? not so accurate. I believe one of the most accurate trains (atleast in german area) are likely Talent 2, class 423 and 425 aswell as 182 (mostly counting sound but also in a technical point of view)
Really? I'm not at all familiar with German railways so I believe you, but from the few videos I've seen of the real life trains I thought it sounded pretty accurate.
I recommend viewing this for a second and compare. wrongdoings I noticed on the TSW ICE 3: - sound after 7 km/h "howls up" from a notch too high, should be lower - the whole sound area between 10 km/h to 55 km/h shifts a slight bit irl, however in TSW it stays the same until next frequency change - in TSW the next pitch change occurs at 50 km/h, however irl at 55 km/h - the sound after 55 km/h (in TSW 50 km/h) is completely wrong in TSW, its too low pitched, appears Mike (I believe Maik Goltz said he made part of the sound) listened to the inside sounds too much which sounds more similar to what we have in TSW. however the outside feels a bit louder and higher-pitched. the ICE 3 is my favourite train currently so I am very sensitive about that topic. anyone that wants to fight me about this, I dare you >:P
Just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean other players can't. Remember not everyone has been to Germany and ridden the train
blud I didn't say I don't like it I was just pointing out the sound faults. doesn't make the entire train bad. let me have opinions, or is this Twitter- sorry, X - in disguise?
The best loco in the game is still the GP9RM, which you can only find on Oakville. The BR Class 101 is the best British loco. I don't know enough about German/Austrian/French/Swiss to offer an opinion.
I think the Vectron is probably the best. It sounds accurate has has a good and in-depth feature set and the physics from what I hear are extremely accurate. The Class 20 & 31 are definitely in the top 10 for British stock they both have good sounds good physics and a believe one of the 20s has a dud horn, I think it's 20 114. And I actually think most German stock in TSW is done the best, trains like the 101, 425, 423, 442 all look and sound how they’re supposed to. US stock like the ACS 64 and Acela are also done well I think, that thread about the Acela’s features and physics is really good.
Vectron, BR 101 (German one) and Pacer are three absolute stand outs for me. I also really enjoy the ICE 1, BR 612 and BR 110...
This doesn't make any sense... If it's inaccurate, it's inaccurate, others peoples ignorance doesn't change that.
Class 801 I’m going with as it’s one of the newest up to date ones what don’t flicker constantly much (Z-Fighting Xbox)
I would say the class 323, sounds are very accurate, it seems to perform like one from my journeys on them, but that is by no means scientific. It has some good features too. However I am not a train driver therefore I am not speaking from a perspective of being an expert.
The 323 is definitely a good train, I have my own nitpicks and it could do with some improvements in some places but its definitely up there.
I quite like the Class 465 in SEHS for the sound quality alone. It goes clunk and whirr, like any self-respecting train should.
All down to personal preference of course, 323, 142 and 465 seem to have captured the prototype almost perfectly. 101 is great but there is something about the engine note that feels somewhat off the prototype.
I can't speak for the 101 soundset, but the modern one sounds great but not quite perfect. It's nearly there. I always thought the Pacers sounded a bit like vacuum cleaners (in a different way to the 91s), and that isn't quite translated to the game. They also don't seem to squeal as much as they did in real life. I still hear them in my sleep... Yeah the 465 is really well made. I'd say the best of the SEHS trains although I don't often drive it.
I think I'd have to go with the class 158 or class 40. The 801 is very well done but there are just nit picky things which to me stand out on it.
The Class 465 was the best when it came out, then it was beaten by the Class 323. The DB Class 101 has always been praised for its quality, as has the G6 shunter. As someone who had never heard of MBTA until TSW2: Rush Hour, I think the F40PH-3C is quite well done - let down only by the safety systems.
Honestly? I'd have to go with the Class 314. Before Covid I worked gateline at Glasgow Central and saw the 314s on a daily basis. DTG pretty much nailed the 314 to reality. I'm glad they got the units in the game. The only nitpick I have on the 314 has to do with the flange squeal in game being too aggressive and the track joint sounds not being heavy enough. Otherwise, I can't fault the 314 to how I remember them. God do I miss them, Central Station looks weird without them IRL.
For British locomotives I would say the Class 31, 20 and the latest 47 on Blackpool branches route are very well done. The Class 37 is quite well done aswell but some dislike the sound set. My personal favourite is the Class 31.
It’s very hard to say as you have to judge on appearance, sound and physics. For the UK I would have to go with the Class 31 as best all round. Or indeed as much as we hate them the Electrostars are represented really well. For Germany a bit tougher and bearing in mind I haven’t rebought West Rhine for the 103 yet I would say a tie between the 110 from BBO and the G6. We know that Maik pours his heart and soul into his work and the quality stands out. For the US, throwing a curveball here and I actually think the MP15 switcher on Peninsula Corridor is one of the best, the Baby Bullet closely following.
It’s hard to determine which is the best with the given criteria as I haven’t personally experienced all of the TSW trains in real life and have never driven any train to determine which has the most accurate anything. I would be seriously out of my depth trying to analyse this. I’d have to stick to what I think is the best model based on how much I feel like I’m driving the real thing, and its overall look and sound in the game, and that would have to be the BR Class 31. This is despite it having the worst example of a badly looped sound on the PS platform with its AWS warning horn.
I haven't driven the 31 that much, but I thought the worst example of sound looping on PS was the traction motors on the 700. It makes using an external camera for any longer than a few seconds unbearable.
Imagine a sound that is 0.25 seconds long at most repeating over and over rather like a machine gun and you will get the idea of what it is like.
Someone mentioned the Blackpool Pacer and I agree it's a nice model and fun to drive with that comforting automatic shift sound. It's also very responsive to the controls. Only thing is when driving it I feel like a 5 year old kid in a bouncy castle.
The class 801 is a few fixes from being the best British TSW train. But right now that title belongs to the class 465
To be honest I think most locomotive/units are done to a high standard. The models themselves are usually always pretty nice but there are however a couple of exceptions with notorious sound or physics issues but sadly they never seem to get a fix. The Arosa GE locomotive or Class 150 are the first to come to mind for me. It is a shame as the driving experience can make or break a DLC. For example I had no interest in MML but I purchased it purely for the class 158. The steam locomotives really suffer with terrible physics despite them being well modelled. I saw a screenshot this week of someone obtaining high speeds on the scotsman with reverser at 75%.
