Hello, i desperately need help in buying a new laptop because the specs really confuse me and I really have no idea which would be the best specs so i have a few questions.

    1) Would a 165hz screen rate be better than a 144hz?

    2) What is burst speed mean in the processor rate?? I'm looking at laptops that don't even come near to the 3.5GHz required but they always have a "burst speed" of around 4.5GHz , so would this cause problems or would I need to find one with basic 3.5GHz speed required?

    3) Which choice of specs in the following laptops would be the best for running train simulator

    LAPTOP 1 (144HZ)
    • Intel Core i5 - 11400H processor.
    • Hex core processor.
    • 2.7GHz processor speed with a burst speed of 4.5GHz.
    • 8GB RAM DDR4.

    LAPTOP 2 (144HZ)
    • AMD Ryzen 7 - 7735HS processor.
    • Octa core processor.
    • 3.2GHz processor speed with a burst speed of 4.7GHz.

    LAPTOP 3 (165HZ)
    • Intel Core i7 -13700H processor.
    • 14 core processor.
    • 16GB RAM DDR5.
    • 1TB NVMEe storage.

    LAPTOP 4 (144HZ)
    • Intel Core i7 - 12700H processor.
    • 14 core processor.
    • 2.3GHz processor speed with a burst speed of 4.7GHz.

Hope someone can answer my questions and help me choose, thanks so much.

(I have been looking at Gaming laptops on the Argos website but can't make out what the specs mean as the processors and CPUs are just numbers and letters so not sure if they're higher or lower than the required)

I bought a HP Omen gaming laptop last year - 32gb i9 processor. So far so good although you probably don't need that level of spec to run TS well.

For TSC, processor clock is important. Choose the one with the highest "burst" speed. My i9 works from 2.4 to 5.2 GHz on full load.

For shoot-em-ups and other action games yes- there's little if any benefit from a high frame rate in TS. I've never run TS at higher than 60Hz. (Your TV is likely to work at 50Hz or 60Hz)

Just that- one or more cores of the CPU can work at a higher speed in bursts. The duration and speed of those burst is limited by the CPU's cooling- the faster the clock speed the hotter the CPU will run. A system will slow down the CPU or even shut off to protect itself from overheating.

Clock speed does make a difference of course but the spec's for TS haven't been updated for some time (when did you last see a Windows 7 machine in PC World?) and newer processors run faster even at the same clock speed not just because they have more cores (which TS does not exploit well) but because each individual core works more efficiently. The processors in any of the machines you describe should be more than up to the job of running TS.

I see no mention of dedicated graphics hardware for any of these machines though, given the high screen refresh rates, I suspect that's just because you haven't quoted the information rather than because none of them has a GPU. TS will run (or at least walk) on a system using a CPU's integrated graphics but even a middling GPU will make a difference.

FWIW I used to have TS running on an old Windows 7 laptop with a 2.5GHz i5 CPU, a fairly basic GPU and 6GB of RAM and was perfectly happy with it. If it hadn't broken down I'd still be using it now. Personally I like the sound of laptop 3 on your list but only because you mention the memory and storage capacity both of which are pretty generous.

I recommend Intel by the way, just read about AMD compatibility and performance issues with a recent Windows update. Never had any troubles using Intel.
