The only us passenger routes in game are lirr, peninsula corridor, Boston Providence and harlem line.

I would stay away from lirr.

Peninsula corridor has diesel locomotives and the f40 is different to drive with manually lapped brakes. The mp36 and mp15 are good pieces of dlc. Journey times can range from 1hr to 1hr30 min. It's also getting a timetable update which is yet to come and we don't know what's in it.

Boston Providence has high speed services with the acs64 and local services with the f40 and cab car with the branchline to stoughton. It's busy around Boston but it's quiet on the mainline. The signaling system currently doesn't work that well so you will get delayed quite a bit. There's also red light issues and stuff even though I haven't encountered any yet.

Harlem is nice if you like emus. There are dispatcher and red light issues. It's quite short but journey times are around an hour end to end. You also got the yankee stadium runs. The m7a and m3a are more improved versions than those in lirr. It's also quite busy.

Peninsula is the best if you’re getting the Baby Bullet as well, but definitely still some bugs in the route.
I like Boston Sprinter but still has the safety system issues I believe.

I would recommend Peninsula Corridor if it didn't have the issues it has currently. Right at this moment, I can't recommend anything else but to stay away from it, avoid at all costs and run as far as you can (virtually) from California (well... To Cajon Pass).
Hopefully it gets fixed at some point as it actually is a very enjoyable route with beautiful San Jose station and palm trees.

LIRR... I don't know. Honestly I haven't touched it in 2 years so...

Harlem Line I do not own (YouTubers put me off).

Boston Sprinter (if you fancy slightly more boring but very enjoyable runs and somewhat challenging) is the route to go for in my opinion. You must stay awake (ahem, alert) the whole time. Plus it's generally nice experience.
The challenge is to stay on time or close to it since access is instructing/guiding you. It is possible but challenging.
Also, it has red aspects where you have to ask permission to proceed. More often or not, you will be able to proceed unless you are in South Station where you have to wait until you got a free platform (takes around 5ish minutes).
Overall, good route to test your ability to focus without too much effort in learning the route or safety systems.
Scenic too, if trees and snow and typical northeast of the good old US of A is up your alley.
