I don't have the best vision and can't reliably spot a lot of whistle posts. So I think it would be awesome of there could be an option to add in "X" on track monitor to indicate where I should start blowing horn before crossing.
Not really keen on seeing more on the HUD, if you’re driving the train and paying attention looking out the cab most whistle posts are easy to spot. And there is no enforcement of horn use in the game anyway, so you don’t gain or lose AP whether or not you use it.
I find the tiny US whistle posts hard to see in the game. The UK ones are nice and big. I find it odd that in the US where everything else is bigger… cars, trains, houses, portions, waistbands, that their signs are so tiny. I’m not sure the track monitor would be the best place for a HUD element as it could get quite cluttered but an option for something to appear on screen could work, It might mean that a trigger would need to be added for every whistle board on every route as at present they are probably just scenery items, so maybe too much work to add it to all routes.
The trigger thing is something had not considered, but can definitely see how that might be too much to add.
Well for US whistle posts it's not until I'm right up on it that can make out if it's an "X" or maybe it's just a "5". For reference: when I'm sitting in cab of ES44AC, the rear air pressure on computer screen is not readable (even zooming in with right stick on PS5) so I have to cycle views until it has my "face" inches away from screen lol. And as someone who is autistic/ADHD myself, I definitely understand not wanting a ton of stuff on screen (too much for brain to track). Definitely what I envision is optional, only something to be seen by those that need to see it. Like I'm pretty sure there is option to turn off speed limits on track monitor. So if it was feasible to add in whistle post markings as an option, that would be nice. I don't care too much about AP/Achievements, but I did get inspired to start playing with safety systems with the news that new LIRR was going to require it for licensing reasons. So I'm also trying to do that with horn as well.
