Hi everyone! I hope we don’t get a TSW 5 this year as it’s becoming a Con, TSW 4 has been shambles tbh. Blackpool Branches has been the best thing about it. ECML was just plain and boring tbh. Many bugs still on the game.

Five months later and they haven't finished releasing TSW4 yet, I should hope they take the time to release TSW5 with completed features rather than rush out another half finished release.

Maybe there will be a new train game but it won’t be TSW anymore. Ever wonder at the virtual radio silence currently surrounding TSW, the abandonment of further work on steam traction and the low key programme of route releases. Anyone would think they are running it down as a prelude to a change in direction.

The reception around TSW4 was very poor, mostly because it was released a year sfter TSW3 with the same bugs.

There's no such thing as a stupid idea, but repeating your mistakes is a stupid thing to do.

Probably, which is why I hope eventually Train Sim alternatives will arrive to Console eventually. There's so many things STILL missing from this game, yet they keep jumping to the next game each year. So yeah... second something like Sim Rails if ever arrives on console, im probably jumping ship. :)

Put it this way, there's more chance of me purchasing a theoretical Run 8 V4 than TSW V5.

I would hope that they would finish releasing TSW4 first. If TSW5 arrives this year with the same bugs, then unless it's something really special, then I think I will have to draw a line and wait for something that I really want.

I think TSW4 being released in it's current state was unacceptable, I bought it because I do actually like 2 of the routes, but I'm at the point where I only play with Mods now as I don't think it's good enough (pop in and stutters) on a high end PC. Four iterations in and I still put a lot more hours into TSC.

So DTG will need to win me over. Maybe if they release the rest of TSW4. Create some decent documentation for the editor so I can write proper scenarios and they fix a load of bugs. Then maybe I'll be more receptive to TSW5.

Certainly DTG 'silent' periods have ultimately only ever been negative, even declared ones. Can't help but feel the forum has taken downward spiral as a result, the only positivity being the WSR update and the sterling work by DTG Liam.

Here we are at the start of February, still waiting on the promised features of TSW4 to fully materialise, with absolutely zero idea of a time scale as to when they're likely to come.
Similarly, the promised updates to TSW3 have yet to materialise.
The lack of any denial regarding steam is concerning.
I could go on...sadly ad infinitum!
They seem to be very much taking the Michael O'Leary approach of total contempt for the customer. Well more blatantly anyway!

I’d be surprised is TSW 5 didn’t come this year tbh, imagine TSW 4 latest another year or two? Wishful thinking.

I do believe that tsw5 will come this year. It would be ridiculous if it is a thing and honestly if it ever came out, I'm not sure I would buy it. Even though tsw4 was a good deal for me since I technically never bought tsw3 since I had it on gamepass, I now don't see why we needed a tsw4 to begin with.

I would love to be wrong though

At this point, they should change the name to Bug Ticket World, because i spend more time sending support tickets than actually playing TSW these days.

Sooner or later, Unreal Engine 4 is going to be abandoned by Epic Games.... Then DTG will be forced to do some kind of series refresh.

I even stopped doing that because they never solved my issues (still awaiting a fix for that 8 month old crash) and just closed my tickets.

Even though I've bought every TSW game in the past, I still haven't bought TSW4 and I don't see any reason to. I'd rather stick with TSW3.

I think DTG's plan was to release a TSW5 this year as well. But I also think they lost a lot of players (including me) with the release of TSW4. And if they did release a TSW5, there would be a big risk that they would lost the last TSW4 players.

TSW5 was planned, but now they have backed out.

It’s an absolute waste of time submitting support tickets. DTG only fixes what it feels like fixing and it ever only does the bare minimum. Usually because fixing something breaks at least two other things. It’s a total joke, or at least it would be if it was in any way funny. But it’s not funny, not at all.

Actually, I don't think, that would be a good idea, releasing a public editor and quite a couple of enthusiasts starting to build their home route/favourite route, and then DTG showing them the stinky finger when they are close to finish their project "You should have build it to TSW5-standard"...would be somehow bad manners and the backlash would be quite negative. I guess, with this step there will be a growing interest of the customers in reliability and trustworthiness, and just releasing the next iteration a couple of month after the last would destroy that almost completely...

I hope not, as much as i enjoy playing it, I'd rather they fix the existing bugs such as glossop being unplayable and delivering what was promised for Tsw4 first.

Only reason I purchased TSW4 was to gain access to Blackpool Branches. If it hadn't of been for Just Trains, I would probably have avoided it altogether or at least purchased it when on sale. Neither the ECML route or the upcoming Goblin line are exciting enough to warrant the upgrade at full price, and there will likely be no more UK routes from DTG until the summer, which may become part of a TSW5 exclusive.

IMHO I really dislike the way we need to buy every iteration of TSW to gain access to new DLCs. I don't know the intricacies of the business case, but surely isolating the player base behind an upgrade cost would hinder sales more than allowing all players access to every DLC at release without needing to pay for a core game upgrade cost first.

Same here mate! I been totally Ripped off like all of us, BPO was the best thing to happen to this game. JT Need their own Console game! But the Amount of Bugs that just require quick fixes in developer terms should be sorted easily! I am not a Dev or have any knowledge in that field. But A Dev should be able to look at it and go yep lets fix that and our customers will be happy. But NOOOOO, they are like F it we will give them these and never fix them. Like the HST Wiper Fix. Been like that since July 2023, Told them about it on here, still not fixed, tell you what they don't like it when you confront them with the truth saying 'If I was this inconsistent at this job I would of been sacked' Apparently that is attacking staff?

I bought TSW3 last year because SoS was something that looked like it would be good on console. I haven't purchased any other previous TSW versions.

Peak Forest is generally good, the 4F looks great, but is comical in so much the way it sounds. The Jubilee and 8F are good, but there seems no difference in exhaust sound volume or characteristics between full regulator 50% cutoff, or 30% regulator and 15% cutoff.

I'm veering off topic now, but I hope that any further releases of TSW are quality rather than quantity.

The thing is in my opinion, I don't think TSW4 has even been much to write home about so far? (from the POV of a UK content player). BPO has been the cream of the crop and WSR has been good too! I'm intrigued by the Simrail pack for PFR but there's literally nothing else that makes me want to buy TSW4. Which is a shame.

If DTG are doing TSW5 I hope we actually get something good? Because honestly the Goblin line and the road map doesn't fill me with much confidence lol :) I hope the upcoming event/week (forgot the name) will be worth a look but not holding out much hope.

Apologies, should've stated just my opinion and that as a UK content player. Will edit accordingly :) I will say what I've seen of the Vectron it did look fairly well done. :)

Oh, yeah then in that context I can agree that it's pretty much just BPO. As much as I absolutely love the Azuma, ECML 100% should have gone to York, or been Kings Cross to Pterborough.

Going to get my thoughts in on this

do i want to see TSW 5 come this year ? No…
do I think it will ? Yep… on a scale of 1-100 how likely ? 90% sure sounds about right.

do I think it’s a good thing for them to do ? No… though if they don’t get the long standing issues sorted with 4 not only will I not be interested in another iteration (as I’m still waiting on Z-Fighting and ain’t going to drop it until it’s fixed, and it will just be carried over… again and again…) but I think it would be a mistake to keep TSW4 the newest if it don’t make fixes adequately.

As long as DTG believe they can sell their projected quantity of the usual 3 routes as a series of packages, they will add a couple of questionable features that may or may not materialize and call it TSW5 ( or something else ).

It really all depends on the routes. If they're halfway decent, most people will move on and soon forget TSW4 and its issues, just like they have forgotten TSW3.

There are people who like TSW4. I'm one. I've been here since the beginning. TSW is my go-to game. Sorry, but I don't agree with all the barking about it. And I think a lot of people on this forum agree with me.

No one has said that TSW5 is certain to come this year. When I write "I think..." it means nothing more than my personal opinion and pure speculation. In the last sentence, I have once again forgotten "I think...".

the part what I think you may be missing here is TSW4 is TSW3 with the odd feature change (& changes still pending release..) the point of people not liking it was its justification for existing not the franchise/meaning and gameplay of TSW.

And that's perfectly fine. Many of us like one iteration of TSW or another. I think TSW2 got it about right.....eventually.

I think the point many players are making is that, at this point in time, TSW4 is really TSW3.5 or thereabouts, so any new version would be premature.

I like TSW4, it was still released too early as we still don't have two of the promised main features over four months later.

2.3 if you count Rush Hour update for TSW2 as a new version.

Wouldn’t shock me if they come post TSW5 or moved exclusively to TSW5 in all honesty :|

Pretty bad it’s been 4 months for those who have been waiting and just overall reputation of releasing an iteration with main features left out that long, personally they weren’t stand out things for me from the start so kinda haven’t really been thinking on them much, could change if I grow to like them but yea not had much priority on them myself.

They'd be getting a visit from Trading standards in the UK if the promised features were moved to another product lol.

The thing about simrail is there's not enough content for it to be the sole train sim in someone's library. It's a nice change of pace and it does some things better but it too has its weaknesses. Even longer periods between updates, not sure if they've even added the save game feature yet (problematic because services are longggg). If you want to enjoy train sims I'd advise collecting a few, including tsw despite its many imperfections.

Yeah, that's actually a good point you have there. Only mentioned Sim Rails as there's some talks about it coming to Console but I haven't seen anything official.
I am really interested in TSC and Openrails though. That being said, I don't intend ON FULLY abandoning TSW, just that I might not be as quick on picking up the game and it's DLCs. :)

Yes! These routes are fantastic, the amount of detail in the scenery, especially the mountains on Vorarlberg. It really blows my mind at how good it looks. I have to give credit, where credits due to DTG, even with all the outstanding bugs that overshadows the positives in this game.

All i can say is that if this year there will be yet another TSWs iteration, im pretty much off from TSW completely.

Haven't bought any DLC (except BPO) since release of TSW4.

We haven't even got all the features that were originally announced. Well we even where promised big things, upgrade and patches back then and we got TSW3 as an answer....

to pay another 36 Euros just to keep up to this franchise... Im not seeing myself doing that.

    Edit*
I really would prefer the way they did it on TSC. Get rid of those stupid versions ( like TSW4, 5 and so on) get it on one level and then working out big yearly updates.

It is openly in official roadmap.

I think people play TSW4, but most if not all bought it just because they liked 2+ of the addons and the price was corresponding to it. Vorarlberg is sometimes buggy but comes with amazing freight timetable. Vectron is the best german loco this franchise ever saw. In fact, Vectron set the bar so high with sounds, that it is annoying to return to any of the previous addons with the monotonous sounds that are far from reality. It's no longer fun.

You can see from steam reviews etc that TSW4 is selling very slowly, that's why the panic and 40% discount on it almost immediately after release.

DTG does not seem to be able to implement any new features, so they will have hard time finding reasons to have people buy the next iteration. But gating people off new content by simply increasing the version number may work well. That's why I expect TSW5 come soon with a support for 3rd party content from the editor in creative centre that will not be backported to TSW4...
