So this has confused me for a while. in 2017 or whenever CSXT converted all of there existing SD40-2 units into SD40-3. with the "spongebob" cab design.. now i get it in TSW2020 that came out right when they started converting all of them into SD40-3s. now for TSW2 they are all converted or scrapped.

there was also a scenario with the GP40 to collect the locomotives and prepare them for conversion

I'm pretty sure the route's still based in the same period, maybe slightly later because of the hump yard usage, but either way the SD40-2's make as much sense as they did back in 2017. Also I have no clue where you got the info that they all got converted from, I can find videos of standard CSX SD40-2s in service as recently as August 2020, so they're still present in some numbers at least.

Wait. Cumberland is not a hump yard anymore?
And some SD40-2 units are radio controlled or used as slugs
And the CSX track around me has SD40-3 locomotives
Mabye it's just in the capitol corridor that's all that's here in terms of special duty locomotives

Hang about, the routes in TSW don’t update in real time? That’ll explain NTP looking so outdated then :D

That's intentional DTG wants to make it older

Yes, that was the purpose of my joke, to show that the same thing applies to The SD40-2 in Sand Patch. They are intentionally older than now, because that’s how DTG made them, and as time stands still in TSW they haven’t magically changed into newer trains.

Well dovetail is adding the C40-8W so maybe there sticking to the oldish locomotives instead of things like the ES44AC or SD70MAc

CSX has NOT converted all of there SD40-2s to -3s! There are still many SD40-2s roaming the system. For now anyway.

Plus the routes that are released are frozen in time. They just run the same day over, and over, and over again.

There are many SD40-2s used on locals and road freights in my area. In certain areas they may only use SD40-3s since they are EPA Tier 3 compliant so they release a lot less damaging emissions into the air. Really helpful where there is a lot of automobile traffic polluting the air.

Arguing or making a statement over something that really doesn't even matter haha. If that bother's you because the Alpha SD40-2 standard cab is in game wow and yeah i say Alpha because every other unit ever built after 1968 has or try's to go off of the SD40-2 model design. Then why aren't you complaining about all the run off sidings or rip tracks that have Frog's because as far as my knowledge as of sometime in 2017 CSX has been slowly removing them do to maintenance costs Yes i said Frog trackage. I know of 2 sidings on the Sand Patch Route in real life that have NO Frog's on there switch. Just making a statement, be HAPPY you have a game like this to Play .

The CSX SD40-3 are not Tier 3 Compliant, this comes from several sources I have at CSX Huntington Shops enfact the Emissions were never changed. Just a Engine rebuild, New Cabs, PTC added to the 4051 & uper roster -3s & GP-3s, Electronic hand brake & Increase in traction power.

CSX Does have the SD40E3 tho that are Tier 3 compliant & those are used only in Yard service but they slip onto freight service sometimes in the NorthEastern States. There were only 12 were built, the roster number spans from 1700 to 1712 & were only built for Georgia & Illinois. A few are assigned in New York State as well.

Those were rebuilt from SD50s. the others that weren't rebuilt iirc were sold/scrapped.
