So, I feel that I don't understand anything about the ALP-46 but these are my biggest questions about it:

    1. what's wrong with the brakes?
The brakes on the power handle work extremely slow even with full braking and the automatic brake also only works with "service" and then is extremely sharp. Is there any way to brake without always coming to a nearly complete stop?

    2. what is going on with ASES on the ALP-46?
When you are driving through the countryside at a relaxed 90 mph and you know that in, say, 1 mile there will be a speed limit of 60 mph. You brake down to 60 mph to avoid an emergency stop. Then I drive over the speed limit and ASES immediately shows only 45 mph and because of the weird brakes I don't make it to under 48 mph in time. How do I know what the next speed limit is without looking at OpenRailwayMap?

Because of these two questions I actually regret buying the DLC at all.

    1. Nothing is wrong with the brakes. That's just how it is in real life.

    2. To see the next speed limit, you can turn on the hud to show the next signal aspect. However, if you turn the hud off, it's purely route knowledge. You probably got that reduction cuz of a train in front of you. All you need to do is to put the brakes into service until you reach below 94 and hold it there until you get below the speed limit and then release to avoid emergency braking. It should work for the most part.

It may be the way it is in real life, but the NJT trains definitely feel different from other trains in TSW, at least the braking systems. For example, you actually have to click through the trigger button to release the brakes, whereas in other trains you can simply hold down the trigger to reach that state. It's a bit awkward if you've been accustomed to simply holding down the trigger all this time.

    1) I literally never use the Power Handle brake, always the Automatic brake. I'm no expert, but I believe Service increases braking pressure while Lap or Hold holds it in place. So if you keep in it Service it's just going to keep apply pressure until you come to a harsh stop. The trick is getting enough brake pressure from Service, then holding it there. It's tricky, but it works. Maybe someone can chime in with more help here.

    2) I'm not even messing with ASES/ACSES on this route, not yet anyway. I found the tutorials confusing and extremely counterintuitive.

I used Boston route to learn ACES and ATC. The rules do actually transfer over to NY - Trenton, just that it is still not operaating properly as of yet, even with the latest update.

・It is hard to surely operate the brakes
    ・Part of scenery looks coarse

As noted in the video that I referenced, hold is only use when the train is under 25 mph, above that lap is the one to use when applying and setting your brakes. This is an NJT rule set up for safety reasons.

    Thank you.

ASES just really annoys me because driving with 45 mph when the actual speed limit is for example 90 mph is just confusing

Thank you for all your replies, it may help me a little bit.

I have another problem. I was driving an Acela express (idk which service) from Trenton to NY with a stop in Metropark.
I think at least 10 miles before Metropark ASES or ATC slowed me down to 45 mph even when the actual speed limit was 125 mph. There was no track changing or other train in front of me (says at least the route map).
Can anyone help why i was slowed down?

Yes, i know, I even turned next signal aspect on. But like I said the next speed limit shows, say, 60 mph, I slow down to under 63 mph and ASES immediately shows 45 mph. And I also need at least 2-3 seconds to put the Automatic brake on service.
