I've bought the DB BR182 during the latest sales. However my issue is that this locomotive is featured only on Rapid Transit, but it should appear as a substitute locomotive on MSB, RSN etc... The strange thing is that the loco appears on the menu, but I've never found this locomotive on all this routes. It's a pity because it's such a nice loco and having only on RT it's a bit of a shame. Just wondering if I'm the only one with this kind of issue..
I know that I have seen it on a service last week pulling a freight train at random, I believe it was either HRR or RRO. Though I will admit that I dont see it as often as the 155.
I believe it does sub on on many of the routes, from what I've seen on DTG streams and also from this https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1W5-ueaP4-UmdhZMKpdH0yTADmY4gNyMw_dRNi86G57o/edit#gid=0 The problem could be perhaps that you might need to own other DLC before you can sub it in to these services similarly to how the BR 155 works - by buying the 155 alone I could not use it on HMA, but once I had Main Spessart Bahn or Rhein Ruhr Osten I was allowed to use it as a sub in for the 143 and 146.
I love driving the 182 and sub it in regularly in service mode. It should be available on freight services for all the other routes except HKA. It is available for passenger service only on RT. It is my understanding that adding it to HKA freight is in the plans. Rudolph Heijink has assembled an impressive guide to all things TSW here: https://www.hollandhiking.nl/trainsimulator/ In the manuals section, click on: Combining German Routes and Locos v1.1 for a nice spreadsheet of what is available.
I also own the BR155 loco DLC and I see it faaar more frequently than the BR182 (which in fact I never saw outside RT as I said)
I think it's intentionaly rare as this loco variant on freight isn't exactly realistic. The 182 in MRCE livery coming with Hamburg-Lübeck should be much more frequent. It's also not used IRL on any passenger services on routes we currently have in game. (apart from RT)
That's fair enough. How does this fare with the other locos? Was the BR 155 seen throughout Germany? Does the 143 switch in for 146.2 on the routes we have? From what I know the 143 is usually used on routes with lower top speed, yet we can substitute it in for the 146.2 everywhere in the game, right?
The Br 155 was reasonably common. Since December 2019 the DB has retired all of its Br 155s so you will only see them operated by private companies now. I‘m not familiar with the routes the real Br 143 was used on but if you could go faster than 120 I doubt one would be used.
My understanding is that the 182 was only used on the RT route until DB had more of the Talent 2 trains in service. I think that was chosen because of its rapid acceleration.
The Br 182 was bought because Austria hadn‘t allowed the Br 185 on their tracks yet. But the Br 182 (designed for the Austrians) could run there. 20 or so locos were bought for freight services. When the Br 185 could run there too, the Br 182 was not needed anymore and ended up in Leipzig for the exact reason you described. That is was when they were fitted with the PIS boards in the cab. For that reason the Br 182 we got should technically not substitute into any other services at all (if you want to have maximum realism so to say).
My take on this is that I want be able to do it if it is possible. So if it is possible to drive a 143 on a route that has a 160 kmh speed cap, then it should also be able for me to drive a 182 with Dostos, since it is technically possible...
Small correction: the 143 indeed was used on routes with a higher top speed than 120 - because for a long time regional services were not designed for 140+ km/h. The passenger waggons used at that time (n-Wagen, earlier Dosto) were not capable of that either. Even after the route themselves were optimized the regional services were often designed for a operating top speed of 120 - 140 km/h. This has been the case even until today on some routes! Only in the last few years, when the 143 was slowly running out of service anyway, there have been some gentle adjustments to this.
Thank you very much for correcting me! As I said, the Br 143 (or passenger services in general) are not my forté.
Thank you for the info! While I live in Germany I have only very recently found my passion for trains and the simulation, and I do lack alot of founded knowledge on these things, so I appreciate all the helpful people around providing actual data
