Just wondering if DTG can comment on this as Canada has some pretty cool railways like Canadian Pacific freight trains through the rocky mountains, VIA rail across the country, or even CN freight up and down the east coast.
No reason why not, at least with regard to CN freight routes. Passenger is a problem because apparently Via Rail won't license its branding.
VIA won't license because they are owned by the Government of Canada and it is against policy to license out Crown Corporations. So it will never happen. Same with GO transit. GO stands for Government of Ontario.
Until private companies take them over at least. It's illegal in Canada for Crown Corporations (Goverment run companies) to license its likeness. So unless its privately run your out of luck asides from CC or editors. But we do have alot of freight routes with great scenery and you can get CN and CP licenses, I actually believe they have both already. But West Coast Express in Vancouver and RTM in Montreal are private so we could get those Commuter lines. Other than that the rest are LRT or Crown Corporations
The VIA Rail logo is in the licensor logos list in the game files. You can view the licensor logos list with FModel by opening the Paks\TS2Prototype-WindowsNoEditor.pak file, and then navigating to TS2Prototype/Content/UI/Assets/LicencorLogos. The VIA logo is named “Licensor_Logos_-_VIA_Rail_Canada.uasset. The list has also been screenshotted multiple times and spread in places like the TSC Discord. Kinda odd they’d add the VIA logo in there if they didn’t have the license.
I stand corrected and yes they do seem to have it, it appears that VIA is one of the 3 corporations that fall into Section X Schedule III part II of the Federal Adminiatration Act as a profit making corporation. So they are excempt. It appears only the non profit ones are not allowed. My bad.
I didn't realize they sold I haven't lived in Ontario since 1988. So yeah things have changed. May 14, 2009 Over 70 million passengers a year take GO Transit. On May 14, 2009, GO Transit officially merged with Metrolinx, combining the operations and expertise of both organizations. As a result, transit projects are built faster, helping to improve service to customers.
Well you all proved an old man still can learn stuff. Thats what I get for being ancient. I'll go back to my black and white tv now LoL
Then why do we have to put up with Caltrain liveries on Oakville. Could use VIA. I hope the keep the old timetable as well as I don't like the idea of seeing Caltrain outside Toronto.
I’m Canadian so I’d love a Canadian route. Oakville was a tease since the CN locos were great but the route itself was a bit of a dud. GO Transit would be a great one. If they get licensing, I’d love to see Oakville be extended up to Toronto and become a GO/CN mixed route. VIA might be a bit trickier to do in the game. Their long distance trains would be a no go for the same reasons we don’t have any Amtrak long distance. Then we have our “version” of the NEC, which is the Windsor-Quebec corridor… but I’m not sure if it work work well because most of the cities are a little far apart for TSW standard routes. (Also people would probably think the dispatcher is broken when their passenger train has to yield to freight, but yep that’s what happens in backwards Canada) Then of course freight, lots of options, but the west coast/Rocky Mountains is the obvious one that I think would appeal to most people including those outside of Canada. With TSW4 apparently taking a new/better approach to scenery and mountains, I think this is what we are most likely to ever see if they do a Canadian route.
Crosscountry is on that list too but Dtg did (more recently) confirm that they do not have a licence agreement with them. Maybe it's just a list of licences that they wish to aquire at some point?
DTG and third parties have limited energy. Now that DTG has released editorial content, US long haul freight and Canadian long haul, I hope to see it soon.
