Hi guys, I was just wondering.. do you think there is any chance we will get a stream railway on TSW? I absoutley love steam trains and they are very special to me as when I was growing up I lived right near the Poppy Line, which was in Sheringham.. I could see it every morning, it went to Sheringham too Holt.. its still running today and is very well used. I loved the smell and the sound and everything else about it.

I really want to have a steam train with a good ole fashioned steam layout on this game, I think would be awesome and so much fun!!, imagine driving a steam train on PS4, it would be beyond awesome!.

Do you think there is any chance TSW team will make a steam railway for this game?, does anyone know any insider info? let me know :D Thank you

I expect there will be steam trains added to TSW at some point it's just that there's no timeline given for it at the moment. It's something DTG want themselves I think. And they wouldn't need licences from operating companies to produce locos.

Two things I hear are of a problem. One, the particle system needs to be able to produce the steam and smoke effectively without it looking a bit... naff. Two, a control method needs to be applied to allow users to operate the much more complex environment of a steam engine cab. Especially for beginners. Those who rely completely on a a controller might find there's not enough buttons.

As for the smell, you might need to burn a bit of coal since surround smellorama is not currently included in the Unreal engine. :)

One thing I’ve noticed is if you get your camera in the middle of the smoke stream of say the Class 31, the frame rate drops significantly. With accurately modelled steam locos and the huge amounts of smoke/steam they produce and your camera close to or in the steam/smoke trails much more often the frame rate would probably completely stall with the current particle system. Hopefully for steam fans they can develop something acceptable soon.

A BETA version with no smoke and basic controls would be a good start.
