As neither the laptop or the main PC meet the minimum spec, thought I would use the laptop as the Guinea pig after doing the registry hack. Seems to be taking, currently at 60% complete.
We've had a couple of new computers show up at work with Windows 11 that I've had to stage for our use. It's not totally awful once you get used to it, and there are things you can do to make it more familiar like Win10 and prior. The first thing I usually do is move the "start" button from the center of the task bar back over to the left corner where the damn thing belongs lol.
I'm still resisting. Simply because I don't want to update the existing OS. Who knows what bugs it might cause. Someday I'll install Win11 from scratch. Someday.
Well it seemed to take okay and fairly painles process. See what's meant by the Start button in the middle. Guess I'll get used to it. I've done the registry update on the main PC in readiness but will probably stress test it on the laptop for a couple of weeks before taking the plunge.
No need to force yourself to get used to it, you can move back over to the left pretty easily... https://www.wikihow.com/Move-the-Start-Menu-Back-to-the-Left-on-Windows-11 I also usually turn off the search bar, Cortana, etc. I don't like the cluttered look of the default settings.
Apart from compatibility issues with older machines. It's the best Windows version available. My pc is on 24/7 and it's always responsive, never hangs like previous versions. Runs well on weak hardware too.
I think whoever was in charge that day was secretly working for Apple. Next update we lose our ability to right-click lol.
I'm resisting and ignoring the nags as I'll need to go into BIOS and enable TPM 2 (really can't be arsed). Also, I have my task bar at the top of my screen (don't ask) and not being able to do that in 11 is going to annoy me every few seconds, eventually resulting in me rage-quitting Windows altogether. And that just sounds like hassle.
Hahaha! Yep, already done it three or four times over the years, last time I was pulled back to Windows was for Microsoft Flight Simulator, but MS Office for work as well. My desktop and laptop are both dual boot.
