I seem to recall there being some confidence that DTG intended to fill the gap in the SWML (and hopefully add the Alton branch). I know DTG won't say but has anyone else heard anything?
The 2D map of the original Portsmouth Direct line has branches radiating to all points from Guildford and Woking. These are trackwork and basic geography but head in the directions of Reading, Redhill and points South West towards Southampton. IIRC, the later Waterloo Portsmouth route used the original PDL as a starting point. There could be further extensions using that.
