Hello, I need help with the Woodhead Class 08. My problem: I don't understand how the trainbrake is working. Of course I did read the manual; but that manual is absolutely pointless ! And I understood that there are different brake modes ... - I understood the function of the 'air release valve' . But for what is the 'exhauster speed-up valve'; doesn't work for me ...??? And I found out that the trainbrake just starts to work, when I couple to wagons. -> and I switch to 'vacuum brakes without D.A. valves' ... ---> the other two 'vacuum brake modes' don't work for me ...??? But when I use the trainbrake, I cannot release the trainbrake. The only way to release the trainbrake was to switch the brake mode again ?!? What a nonsense ! Is there a 'hidden' compressor switch ? I hope that I am just too stupid to understand the correct way to handle the trainbrake; otherwise again I bought a broken payware product for TS classic ... Could you give a helping hand on the Class 08 trainbrake ? Thanks !
Press PgUp and PgDn to select braking mode. The train brake is off by default, as it is normally not used/connected when shunting.
Well, torfmeister, I know how to select the brake modes; but the train brake doesn't work ! Did you read my description ? Why I cannot release the train brake with the lever ? That is one of the questions... Switching brake modes to release the train brake; that is nonsense !!!
Don't yell You have to switch the Vacuum Exhauster on by pressing Control+O. So the vacuum to release the brakes can be created. This is a little ProRange loco
Thank you very much, 'torfmeister'... - that will do the little trick! By the way: "From where do you know the shortcut 'CTRL+O'?" Is this a common knowledge for TS classic user ? I did suppose a hidden vacuum exhauster or compressor; which I couldn't start... but how could I find out about the shortcut ?! I did read the manual up and down; couldn't find that shortcut. And the shortcuts for additional controls for steam trains: J - Small ejector on/off. C - Cylinder valves on/off. F, Shift+F - Open/close the locomotive fire box. R, Shift+R - Increase/reduce the rate the fireman shovels coal. I - Turn on/off the live steam injector. K, Shift+K - Increase/reduce the flow of steam to the live injector. O - Turn on/off exhaust injector. L, Shift+L - Increase/reduce the flow of steam to the exhaust injector. N, Shift+N - Increase/reduce blower. M, Shift+M - Increase/reduce damper. So, how did you find out about the vacuum exhauster ( CTRL+O ) ??? I am really interested ... Well, now , the little lady is working perfectly fine ( driving physics and all brake modes! ). It is very interesting to drive the Woodhead Class 08; and I would call the lady a 'ProRange' loco ... But the manual for that loco; I just call 'crap'!!!
The manual for the Class 76s that came with the route is also crap and the locos are over scripted but no info in the manual.
That's right, DTG's manuals are overly simplified, they don't put any effort in them. Most locos are not developed inhouse, but the manuals are - so I presume it's a lack of communication at DTG. What I do is to always check the "InputMapper" files to see what controls are active for a specific loco that's not documented as in this case.
Wow...?!? Yup(!); I am too old and 'oldfashioned' for that "chaos"... But your idea with the "InputMapper" is excellent ! - and you really did help me... Thank you very much ! I did drive the Woodhead Class 08 for two hours on my little private route; absolute interesting little lady... - I like the 'ProRange' realism (works perfectly fine!); now the normal Class 08 is uninteresting! And I don't say that the Woodhead locos are over scripted; this 'ProRange' realism should be standard. But a manual is important... - when I did learn how to drive steam locomotives in TS 2022, I really did appreciate the 60pages manual of JustTrains 'advanced' 7MT Britannia and bossmann manuals; without no chance.... ?! And again; when you have learned to handle the 'advanced' locomotives in TS classic, basic locomotives lose their fascination... I hope we will see many more hours of entertainment in TS classic... Bye
Here a few manuals of uk and german related locomotives & MUs. Its a tech section, since a lot of people have trouble to understand train brakes etc. Be warned, it could be a little too much if you have no background knowledge of trains at all. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11eUff1VYDseHAifyRlERpLimKF2xPSFy
You will find the full manual in the link (fist post), it covers full procedures and instructions, brake tests and knowledge about systems.
