    About
The Woodhead line was a railway line linking Sheffield, Penistone and Manchester in the north of England. A key feature of the route is the passage under the high moorlands of the northern Peak District through the Woodhead Tunnels. The line was electrified in 1953 and closed between Hadfield and Penistone in 1981.
The route from Manchester to Sheffield was 41+1⁄2 miles (66.8 km) with stops at Gorton, Guide Bridge, Newton, Godley Junction, Broadbottom, Glossop and Dinting, Glossop Central, Hadfield, Crowden, Woodhead, Dunford Bridge, Hazlehead Bridge, Penistone, Wortley, Deepcar, Oughtibridge, Wadsley Bridge and Neepsend.

I absolutely love old electric locos so this would be right up my alley.

TBH I'm surprised that DTG made Peak Forest over Woodhead. Whilst PF is lovely we could have had a route that had the benefits of a route that had steam, diesel and electric running on it. On the optimistic side I half hope that Glossop was made to give a landscape foundation for a Woodhead to be started later on.

Me too , I'm curious about what it's like to drive a classic UK locomotive.
    Nice suggestion!

Ha! Nice idea but these puppies are nothing like a classic UK locomotive! They are closer to a classic european locomotive at the time running on overhead DC current with all the gidgetry gagetry of regenerative braking 1940s style :)

It would be awesome as the TSC original is a complete blast to drive, particularly with fully loaded coal around Wath and Penistone.

Someone suggested this to me in the TSW Discord Server, did some research on it, and absolutely loved the route! Great choice! :)

YES! You had me at Woodhead although getting sounds will be tough as the two class 77s that are preserved in the UK are on Static Display & barely one 506 has been preserved. If this came to TSW -
    A) I would like Just Trains to do it
    B) I would love to see the GT3 has a potential add-on

    It would be great.

Obviously sound wise the TSC versions of the Class 76 and Class 506 could be used as a reference point. Most of us are prepared to cut a bit of slack wehen it comes to the sound for older stuff where no examples have been preserved and there is little archive footage with audio for reference.

We also still lack any UK electric locomotives in TSW, and the Woodhead Line would be a perfect playground for such. Modest distance, varied scenery, good mix of services and generally quite unique and iconic with some historical significance too.

I would’ve loved that instead of the actual and short one we got…

As a side note, if Reddish Depot were to be included, it might be worth creating the pair of Midland Blue Pullman 6 car sets (Class 251 and 261) for short Depot hops on the line as this is where they were maintained prior to transfer to the WR. If the 3 8 car variants were done alongside, it would be possible to run them with DLoGW with the main Midland runs coming to Peak Forest. Otherwise, Woodhead is most deserving of a TSW rendition. Please dtg.
