I am a scholar of World War II, specifically what England’s railways were doing at the time. I feel that TSW should make routes and missions based on Operation Pied Piper and goods work across the UK.
Can’t see that happening for a variety of reasons. Main one being DTG simply aren’t that interested in doing steam era routes, let alone WWII ones. Anything set in Germany would require extensive decoration with the swastika which will not go down well, not to mention the grim history of the railways being used to transport people to labour and extermination camps. DTG are not going down that road nor putting anything in a game that might conflict with its PEGI 3 rating. The military pack issued a while ago didn’t even have any offensive vehicles on the wagons! Far better to wish for something post war, maybe 1951 or thereabouts when BR was not long formed but many locos and rolling stock still carried their “Big Four” livery.
It think that´s a really bad idea, it´s a train simulator and not a war or politics simulator after all and it should better stay this way. In this era it can get really controversial really fast. Let´s do some pre war era routes instead, like Settle-Carlisle in the 30s or a 1920s german route with the legendary 1928 Rheingoldexpress and a good old KPEV P8 for example. I would like to see the old route to Usedom for example, destroyed because of the war, so pre war is the only way if you want it realistic. The route would be set in the early 20s or maybe even the early 10s and run from Ducherow to Heringsdorf or even further up to Wolgaster Fähre.
Terrible idea. The only appeal to a route in this era is that it would be set during wartime. And I can imagine that wouldn't go down well.
I too study history of this period, but I would say WWII would be a very risky topic for obvious reasons. However, setting it in the 40s could work in the context of using the fashion of the time (NPCs) and accurate rolling stock. How I would do it with reference to the period and key locations, but excluding any war related features and imagery. Jellicoe Express: On the Far North Line, a period route using steam between Ardgay and Inverness. London Underground: A route that can use 1938 Stock and as well as from the 1920s and maybe earlier than that. Hellfire Corner: A route roughly from Ashford, Kent to Dover Priory and Dover Harbour which can be both passenger and freight, as well as the Golden Arrow service if it was set in 1939 prior to September. If Unreal Engine was easy to use, I would have tried these 3 ideas as a personal project.
This won’t be a popular thing but…. Would be great for them to cover history, I really hate how everyone is too sensitive to the past, like obviously I wouldn’t want actual camps included but it wouldn’t be too bad seeing a rail line surrounded by destruction and smoke from bomber planes plus having places and tanks battling it out while you drive the train away ( also would let the stealth liverys to be added) Or they could go down the fictional road of war of the worlds where you be seeing London getting destroyed by the fighting machines and flying machines ( jeff wayne‘s version)
That is a really interesting topic. It´s probably hard to do something like that without loosing the Pegi 3 rating. It really depends on what you want to do with this setting. Just athmospheric scenery? Maybe possible but probably not capturing the railway of that time properly. But more than just scenery and it will get really difficult. Maybe this would be a better idea as it´s own game, could be really interesting gameplay wise but it´s difficult to not offend anyone with something like this. Another thing that I personally really like is probably even more difficult than that, german Railways in the 1930s. There were some really interesting trains around at that time, that weren´t present at any other time. It really was the golden age of the Railway, imo. Legends like the SVT 877 "Fliegender Hamburger", the "Henschel-Wegmann-Zug" or the "Schienenzeppelin", for example. I would really love to drive something like that on a matching route in a Train Simulator but since this time period in germany is basically a no-go for well known reasons, it will never happen. I totally understand the reasoning but it´s still a pity about all the legendary trains of that time.
