    Hi Guys,
Sadly my little old Dell Optiplex 7010 has cooked and killed my NVidia GTX 1050i GPU.
Before replacing said GPU I found a PC for sale and just wondered about it's suitability for TSC?
I don't do any other gaming (apart from the odd dabble with FSX)
Just thought I would seek some advice from you more knowledgable folks before diving in.
    Many thanks in anticipation.

    Dell G5 Gaming Desktop 5090. 9th gen Intel Core i5 9400 with 4.1Ghz
    Technical details:
    NVIDIA Geoforce 6TX1650 4GB
DDR4 8GB (obviously would add more)
    1TB 7200 RAM SATA 6GB
    Dell multimedia keyboard in black
    9th gen Intel core i5 9400. 4.1 GHz

Only thing worth buying of Dell is their monitors and then you can get better deals with other brands that use the same screens so.. No.. I wouldn't touch it/Dell.

I wouldn't buy a Dell. They're terribly built, usually from proprietary parts that make future upgrades impossible. You don't say how much it is though. If it's amazingly cheap it may be worth a punt if you're stuck and need something like right now, but Dell are atrocious.

    Cheers for the advice guys
Apologies, forgot to include the price bit.
It is up for £390 including a 23.6 inch MSI optix H24 series curved monitor
& a Turtle beach Reacon Gen2 Xbox Headset in white with charger.
It was the price that first got me interested.

I think my employer would disagree, they buy 1,000s of Dell laptops.

Quite possibly the worst recommendation for hardware on a gaming forum I think I've ever read..

Unless your employer employs thousands of people to play video games all day then the laptops are more than likely fit for your employers needs (which I highly doubt is anything more taxing than running specific software focused on your companies requirements) and bulk buys are companies like Dells bread and butter, chances are any faulty units are replaced swiftly as Dell wouldn't want to lose the next thousand sales 2 or 3 yrs down the line.

I also have mixed experiences with Dell laptops. Try to figure out why the seller is getting rid of it. Seems old, could be it.

Update:- My GTX1050ti isn't cooked, turned out the fan had stopped spinning so overheated and turned itself off.
I have since given it a good clean out and bingo back using it, as for how long remains to be seen.
As for Dell machines I am somewhat amazed at the responses recieved.
I admit I am mainly an Office based machine type user that dabbles in TSC.
My current tiny Optiplex 7010 mini desktop has served me well for the last 2 years allbeit with a 2GB SSD, 16GB Ram and GTX1050Ti upgrade but has worked perfectly with no crashes or alarm moments whatsoever (apart from the latest false scare).
I currently run most routes at max TSC settings at around 20 - 40 FPS which does for me.
Hence why I saw the G5 as a massive improvement on what I already run.
On saying that any futher advice on a more suitable replacement will be well recieved.
    Thanks guys.

I'm sure you have seen generic advice - higher clock and transfer numbers even if fewer cores. Sounds like Intel.
PC Gamer has an article about gaming options. If you so desire, roll back a couple years.

It is a Desktop not laptop and is 3 years old, so suits my requirements down to the tee.
Just wondering about the TSC compatability issue.
    Cheers anyway

    https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Nvidia-GTX-1650/Rating/4039
"The GTX 1650 supersedes NVIDIA’s two year old 1050, outperforming it by around 52%."
"AMD’s two year old RX 570 8GB outperforms the 1650 by around 15%, has double the memory (therefore is more future proof) and can often be found cheaper."

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-9400+@+2.90GHz&id=3414
The CPU is slightly more powerful than mine, which is much older. Single thread operations are virtually the same.
    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-4790+@+3.60GHz&id=2226
Reading a bit further, iHigher is better for gaming and intensive stuff than iLower.
Found the one your Optiplex is supposed to have - compared to that, the i5 is a massive upgrade.
    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=intel+core+i3-3220+@+3.30ghz

I guess you can make good use the sites to compare a bit further. :)

If you want to get a little hacky, you could maybe take a 120 or 140mm case fan plugged into the motherboard and strap it onto the card blowing inwards onto the heatsink fins. While the fan speed won't be regulated according to the card's tempreature, it should give decent results for a low-powered card like this.

I would also jam the original fan just so it doesn't overspeed and unplug the fan connector that goes into the card itself. Alternative would be to remove the shroud and leave just the heatsink fins but that's a little trickier.

Sorry, that was just the PC nerd inside me trying to get creative :)

If you want to have more control over what your GPU is doing get GPU Tweak 3 which is free. It allows you to monitor your card and adjust settings like fan speed, shows card temp, etc. GPU Tweak III (asus.com)

The only issue with your suggestion is that you may upset the balance of airflow in the case. Dell cases are usually small and need all the correct airflow in and out to maintain optimum temperatures. Space wise siting a 120/140mm case fan to 'cool' the GPU may not be possible.
    One nerd to another. :)
