I'm ready to eat a platter of 'I told you so' sandwiches served up by some here, but I will give praise when I feel it is rightfully deserved.

I decided to re-install TSW3 over the weekend and installed only the updated Boston-Providence route and did an ACS-64 run from Boston to Providence. Sitting in Boston I at first thought "here we go again" with flickering textures out the window. Ho hum I went ahead and completed the run. I was shocked that the FPS remained mostly rock solid. Some jackhammering stutters at the 22mi, 17mi, and 8mi to go spots, but nothing too brain damaging. The only other odd part was this bizarre weather transition mid run:

I'm not sure if this performance is normal or whether it was due to me only having that one route installed, but it was more than acceptable. I even noticed better FPS at Boston Back Bay station than we had in TSW2. So with this we can see that DTG does have the ability to put together a route that runs smooth (mostly) with all the new bells and whistles. I'm going to try a run on this again in the rain to see if that has any detrimental effect. It would be nice if SEHS, KSW, and Cajon Pass played as well. Maybe I'll give each a re-install to see if any improvements have been made in the last month or so sine my last attempt.

    I’m happy to read this.

it might be my imagination but the micro stutters always seem to be in the same spots

The strange thing is that the route performs better in places where there is more scenery. The spots I mentioned were in the countryside mostly with trees around. Strange. Anyhow, I just wish I was seeing similar performance across all new routes as it would make it playable experience for me.

But try driving a service from the MBTA cab car and it is almost impossible to get the doors to function correctly, up to and including making it impossible to complete some runs.

I gave it another go using the MBTA cab car this time on a short run going north to Boston. I put on full rain storm to test. I didn't run into any door issues, but I did notice a lot more micro pausing on this short run. Also coming into Boston the scenery was stuttering quite a bit in the station. I started to wonder if it was the weather causing the stuttering, but it's not consistent. Sometimes it was perfectly smooth and other times it was pretty bad. Mind you that on this route I still haven't noticed really bad jackhammering stuttering yet except for this run at Boston station. Sometimes I would see lower frame rates, but it was consistent therefore not stuttering. Usually this occurs when another train is nearby. Overall the route is still the best performing one I've seen with the TSW3 tag, but I wish I could be more constructive with my feedback in an ah ha moment to point out what conditions are causing the bad stuttering. I just can't figure out a pattern yet.
