Very pleased to see the West Somerset Railway getting an update.
This is very good news and very much appreciated so thank you.

I was suprised to see that peak forest is required for the basic steam services and those owning spirit of steam presumably won't get the new services. Is there an clarification on this?
Obviously if you want the Flying Scotsman or Festive services you must own the relevant DLC but that's fair enough.

West Somerset Railway is also one of the routes where the fact that the steam engines are overpowered is illustrated very clearly and the lack of control over the boiler water level or fire is at its most frustrating. The safety valves will be blowing almost constantly unless you are climbing some of the significant gradients.

Has any of the no-doubt substantial amount time spent on improving the WSR and Peak Forest routes been used to improve the steam engines?

I think there was a veiled reference by JD in one of the other threads that steam physics are unchanged and seem likely to remain so.

So don't misunderstand me, the improvements are much appreciated but would rather they came with a radical improvement to the steam experience and a Hall/Pannier/Collet or Hawksworth coach pack which I would readily part with money for.

I'm going to assume almost certainly not, the personal project of the dev was to improve the route, I think the steam timetable was just a "Why not?" addition. The scenery and lighting improvements were the main focus.
I do hope steam physics are improved in the future though, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, and am extremely happy with a free complete overhaul to an existing route.

Do wonder if the extension is from Norton Fitzwarren to Taunton. Only a short distance and would make sense for the Taunton Flyer services.

It says Ai will take over at the boundary so I doubt Taunton will be featured.

It's not so important to extend the length, it's a long drive anyway from Minehead

I asked exactly the same question in the Q&A thread. It would have made so much more sense to layer in the two locos from SOS (which are identical to their counterparts on Peak Forest). Obviously the third loco that is only in the Peak Forest add-on can still get its own layer.

Makes sense to use Peak Forest over SOS for 2 big reasons.
Peak Forest has all 3 locos in 1 pack, meaning you would only need 1 DLC to get all steam services rather than needing 2 DLC's.
The other reason is layers on a timetable can't interact with each other. So for example Peak Forest stock can't couple to SOS stock unless you put both DLC's stock on the same layer, which would then only activate if you own both DLC's as you can't run half a layer. If you look at the WSR timetable there is a lot of stock switching going on throughout the day.

This will be the reason right here. The timetable layering is an absolute nightmare to work with with anything that isn't just A-B. Presumably they will want to be using the same carriages, and probably the 4F for shunting, this wouldn't be possible with layering. So it would need to be two different steam timetables, which just isn't realistic.

Hey Liam, aren’t you the one who is largely responsible for the WSR remaster? Matt spoke very highly of you in yesterday’s roadmap stream!
Anyways, your comment makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t considered the interaction/coupling between locos from different layers. Seems like I‘ll need to pick up Peak Forest then, hopefully there’s a sale soon! :D

Thank you so much for deciding to upgrade the route!

Is the diesel timetable exactly the same?

Always found it to be hard going and unforgiving in terms of timings - especially for a ‘relaxing’ preservation route. Has put me off playing it and it does deserve to be played more - it’s a great looking route and the refresh is very nice.

Diesel remains unchanged, with the only difference of AI GWE trains running the mainline.

It’s nice to see it getting some attention but the lighting once again looks awful in some of the pictures.

Which pictures in particular? Could be an older picture or may need a bit more work done.

With the WSR getting a remaster. I wonder if that means the 33 will finally be joining the Livery Editor fleet. It's the only WSR locomotive that still doesn't have it.

The shot of the 33 at Minehead. The loco roof and buildings just look far too washed out.

The rest don’t look too shabby now I’ve looked over them again.

I hope so. It seems remarkable that we have a loco as great as the Crompton and you can't do anything with it Livery wise.
Even if it turns out we can't have it in the Editor could we, at least, have a Blue one?

Also will the upgrade tackle the problem of the train doors opening on the wrong side at Minehead, on either platform, in 'home-made" scenarios using the in-game Scenario Editor? (As per the thread on the Forum).

Would be nice if the Crompton got a refurb. Could do with a BR Blue version and the sounds need a tune up, a tad too bassy to my ears.

Yes I agree it's an excellent piece of news and thanks to Liam for taking it on and improving it about 200%. Now this route which I know very well will form the centre-piece of my collection., and all for free!

Not to mention the SoS locos having no audio for AI services with no sign of them ever being fixed.

Out of curiosity, I assume that once a layer is activated substitutions of the locomotives is a separate thing? That's what it looks to be anyway with the likes of the freight services on Blackpool.

Also on a related note, by any chance do the West Cornwall Railtour versions of the Jubilee substitute onto this new timetable?

Yep, so once the Peak Forest layer is activated you will be able to get trains that can substitute with the trains on that layer.
I haven't seen a West Cornwall Railtour version myself but one of the beta testers took a pic of it going over the Minehead crossing.

Currently there is no Class 33 livery editor support planned for this update.

Okey dokey, that's a shame as it's the last WSR loco not in Livery Editor but I'm still looking forward to the update

Silly me to miss that screenshot. Thanks for telling me nonetheless and I must say, hats off to you for this amazing update. As if I didn't love this route enough already, you've renewed that for a long time to come.

I believe DTG Liam is doing the work in his own time rather than it being an official DTG upgrade, so I guess we'll just have to be patient until he finds enough time to complete it satisfactorily. Next year is about the only thing we can be certain of now.

The timetable and main upgrades are all complete now. There's just a few smaller pieces I'd like to go over while the route is in testing. Definitely won't be released before Christmas but hopefully not too long after.

So can you confirm that if I choose not to buy Rivets Cornish steam loco DLC, it will not make a difference to the steam timetable?

It's a railtour loco. The main dlc you need for the timetable is peak forest

Rivet's DLC is not needed for the main services, although it is needed for the winter special services that run at night through December.

Especially with a 20 or 09- they simply can't make it up the hills at anything over a crawl.

The Maccies by Minehead, I appreciate you may not have the license, but is there anyway of putting a restaurant there and using a fake name, just to make it a little more realistic(ish)?

Nothing quite like that but all the buildings in that area now roughly match the size and shape of their real life counterparts.

Probably its asked a lot, but i have added 2 pics from the shed. Now with tsw 4, an open shed would add more gameplay and allows the player to use the switch and drive into the small yard.

The Class 33 also doesn't appear to have field divert engine note changes as other locos do, Class 20, 31 and 37 etc.

Appreciate that others have helped with sounds on your upgrade.

I think the one issue that is now becoming a frustrating issue is that a steam timetable update relating to a gala has been prepared, yet no AI steam locomotives make any sort of chuffing sound and still we continue to wait, even though this was promised to be fixed back when Spirit of Steam was released and the preview stream confirmed there was no sounds all that time ago.

There has been so many DTG support tickets sent regarding this issue and yet it has still not been picked up on. It makes purchasing Steam DLC and using them really displeasing and dissatisfactory.

The old and new timetable have been set up to allow for future timetables to be added. Would be up for seeing a mixed power timetable that could include diesels and steam together.
