Shouldn't TSW and TSW2 be individual entries here? Dovetail certainly seems to regard them as distinct and sells them as such.
I voted for Train Sim World because I was glad that a train simulator was available for console. My laptop isn't up-to-date with the specs so it can't handle games.
Train Sim World because it's the only Train Simulator available to the Xbox One Series X & Series S and has put many hours on TSW 2020 playing the LIRR Routes on Xbox Series X. Reason for this PS4 & PS5 can have a choice of either Dovetail Games Train Sim World or the Japanese Densha De Go! Series.
Train Sim World for me since my Xbox is my best way to play games. But I think posting this in the TSW forum will give you biased results.
There are a whole host of titles missing from the list... MSTS and Open Rails, as mentioned the various Trainz incarnations, BVE and OpenBVE, Derail Valley, Diesel Railcar Simulator and that’s before delving into older archive stuff. Besides, it’s a very complex question, I enjoy driving in TSW2 but there are routes in classic TS unlikely to see the light of day. Route building I tend to do in Trainz even though the driving experience is largely useless, but it is good for model railway style projects.
Wow! I had that game for the Speccy. Also the follow up, Evening Star, which ran along the Somerset and Dorset. Can you imagine the people criticising the scenery in SEHS and Arosalinie playing this? It was state of the art in 1985.
Not to mention Simudrive with its entirely text based presentation. I remember being so excited when I saw the game advertised in a magazine, then the crushing disappointment when I started playing it. That said though, not letting Rivet/DTG off the hook for the state of Arosa.
A very accurate point of view About missing titles and trips back in time - mea culpa. My past: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_on_the_Orient_Express Ain't no graphic engine. Not at all.
I had Evening Star on my Amstrad but not for long. A zero effort Spectrum port- it looked terrible even at the time.
I started with MSTS, Loved the Acela on the NEC, Then onto BVE & OpenBVE, of course now I have TSW2 it's my favourite!
I remember CabView Driver on PC before MSTS, I think it was by Ashley Greenup? Many an hour on the East Coast Main Line! “Controlling” the VHS viewpoint
