I agree, when I get my hands on the route there's certain parts I need to fly over and see entirely for myself. How it looks from the cab is obviously most important but I am curious. As I said before they have gone way over the top with trees in places, and it blocks things you would be able to see in real life from the cab.

We will see but bear in mind Network Rail have let the lineside foliage become a linear forest in many places. In fact if you watch the Ben Elias cab ride on the HST measurement train from Exeter to Penzance filmed a year or two ago and it is very overgrown in places.

A Steam railtour last year stopped just after leaving Plymouth and it was reckoned that lineside foliage had caused a brake on one the carriages to come on.

    My two penneth.....

Rivet have done a good job overall with the route, some of the scenery looks stunning.
It was interesting to learn that route building started as far back as February.
I appreciated Matt being transparent about train sounds, DTG should follow this stance in the future.
Sounds on the 150 still sound a bit off to me, especially under braking.
The Voyager looks amazing, can't wait to see Virgin liveries in CC!
Timetable sounds to be something special, I hope the steam trains out of Paignton have been tested.
Distinct lack of npc people out and about on the route, do they really eat up memory?
The sea alongside Starcross and Dawlish looks a bit Meh

The sea alongside Dawlish is, for the vast majority of the time, flat as a pancake... (IRL)

Given how close to launch the stream was and given WCMLS at launch last year wasn’t great, feared the worst going into this. Shouldn’t have done, it looks absolutely superb. 4pm can’t come quick enough :)

Despite the unfortunate breakdown of the Voyager this route has certainly re-awoken my interest in TSW.

I just need to make up my mind whether to buy the route and Voyager or get the deluxe edition.

Although I love the new trains I am most excited to drive the 166 on it.

Every time I go on holiday to Dawlish it's 10ft waves and enough wind to challenge a Baked Bean factory ;)

The 166 had the same flashing effect on its windows as the voyager (I think) went past

Would appreciate someone uploading a video showing guard mode/panels on the 802/220 once released please. Haven’t quite finished watching the preview stream, but hasn’t been covered so far. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I have watched that exact cab ride video you are talking about, I was interested in other parts in the past, mostly Cornwall end. I know NR have let it become a lot worse than it has been previously. However there was just some parts on the Paignton branch in game particularly, that I know for a fact have hardly any trees (I have been there in real life this year), and yet in game its a full forest.
Not that I think its bad, or completely inaccurate by any means. I still could tell where I was at all times, but it's just some things that I noticed.

The whole point of putting in reversible working from Dawlish Warren to Teignmouth was to mitigate against rough seas. And why Cross Country had (presumably still have) a contingency plan to not run services between Exeter and Newton Abbot (or Plymouth) if a yellow or red weather warning is received.

Watched a bit more while getting dinner ready.

    Couple of thoughts…

If the issue with the first 220 run at Newton Abbot was a scripted random train fault, then the game needs to be prompting the player where to look. There also needs to be an “I give up”, command or function which will rectify the fault for you, without doing a total physics reset - which didn’t work anyway!

Very juddery around Dainton Tunnel and definitely get the slight overuse of tree assets vibe that we had from WCL,where there should be field patterns visible.

However still looking good and eager to get playing later.

I think they said the heavy stuttering/lag around Dainton was due to the stream and not the game. The in-game FPS counter in the top right stayed at 60FPS while the stream was lagging :)

This is something that needs highlighting, the button that exists to reset the train, doesn’t seem to reset it.

Also TSW itself obviously has code gremlins so it’s impossible really to tell if something fixable has gone wrong, or if the game has had a critical error which is what seemed to happen last night.

2 resolutions which would be ideal are 1). Fix the reset option. 2). Maybe add in a toggled console notification that lets us know what the game engine is doing, similar to ‘red text’ for OMSI.

The custard was boiling over at that point, which is why I probably didn't pick up on the comment!

More specifically, I believe it was when Matt Alt+Tab out of the game to have a look at something on his other screens (dual screen set-up) so the capture card would not have been actively recording the game with full performance this time, hence the big lag/stutters. The game/route itself remained very stable.

TSW hasn’t advanced enough to have fully functional dynamic waves hitting against the coastal wall. I hope this is something they can achieve in the future.
I’m still gutted that we won’t hear any seagull’s near the coast. Jamie purposefully ignored my question. Naughty Jamie! ;)

I sure cant complain about the lack of seagulls despite the fact there are many in this area in real life. Hate the things, I wish real life didn't have them either!

Pretty sure I heard someone in the stream say last night you would hear seagulls in various places…

I’m still on the fence with this myself. The US route looks ok & the arrow is looking good, but even with great content I just can’t stay interested in US routes for too long.

The German route really needs to have made leaps & bounds from the last time I saw it, to be worthwhile IMO.

So ultimately I’m left with the proposition of putting the extra £15 or whatever down over standard + 220, gambling weather the German route has improved enough.

DTG would have done well to update us on the German route, though maybe they don’t see enough of an issue with it to do so, which would be a shame.

In any case, I’m relieved to see the UK route is relatively strong this time around, though I do have concerns for future German content, as that was at least always dependable in terms of quality - something that’s slipping lately.

I was underwhelmed with the Leipzig route and that is what is making me unsure. I like the idea of the extension as the route now makes more sense, for long runs at least. I'll try and find a steam over the next day or so.

I do like the look of the USA route and too easy relieved that Riviera looked good and I like the stock on it and the layers. Although I would still prefer it to be set 30 or 60 years ago.

Then again two months ago TSW was uninstalled, possibly for good due to my irritation with some of DTGs decisions. The TSW6 drew me back in. I think I largely find TSC to be too time consuming before you even get to drive anything and I'd like to discover other games.

Just proves how fickle we can be (or me at least)!

Does the Class 166 have guard mode for this route or will it be added after the remaster comes out? Also (unrelated) will the 166 ever or is it now in the Livery Creator?

I hope so. It would be even more amazing if the audio team did sound clips like “Oi he stole my chips” or “xxxx off!”. Well, in-game that would be BEEP off! ;)

Yeah I’m in the same kind of boat. Regarding era though I was mostly unhappy about the 802, though I’m really impressed with the new soundset so I have abit more a neutral stance on the era now.

As for train sims in general I’ve lately found I’m more in the mood for watching over playing, TSW has actually had a couple of potentially nice releases, but there’s just too much lacking in terms of an actual journey between 2 logical places. Also there’s just too many sacrifices when it comes to getting a busy route, you basically have to deal with fictional stock allocations.

There’s then of course the usual quality control concerns.

Ultimately though Rivera is looking nice enough & seems to offer something a little more substantial in terms of driving somewhere, definitely looking forward to All Aboard & Liams content too, though I am weary of setting my expectations too high - there are still plenty of red flags surrounding the rate at which content is getting released.

The GWE is going to feel like a new route and I am looking forward to Birmingham to Crewe, especially the Birmingham to Wolverhampton section as I know it well.

I thought if we ever got Riviera it would probably be Exeter to Paignton so I was pleased it went to Plymouth.

I am hoping that maybe routes will start to get a little longer and more logical.

There are many routes I would happily pay for extensions for. WCMLS to New Street, CCL to Worcester, ECML to Leeds and or York for example. Hopefully the Leipzig example might lead to some of these happening.

Fictional stock irks me too, I won't be seeing any EMT 158's at Exeter, although I understand why they put them in. I still get irritated by class 40's in 1986 Preston.
