As I said " for the most part "

Funny you should mention that. It occurred to me too as I was posting, as did the wheel.

Calculators, computers. It's interesting that the very first calculators and computers were mostly used for military purposes, artillery aiming etc.

I myself am too old to have used a calculator in school. A slide rule yes.

The story isn't over, but at this stage, things are leaning more towards the good than the bad.
Proof of this is that humanity still exists and there hasn't been a nuclear apocalypse.
We'll see what happens next, but as far as we're concerned here, yes, it's pretty certain that AI will be used to do bad things. :(

Still waiting for the ability to have a chat with the passengers on the train. Or when I'm on a NY platform be able to shout "hey, I'm walking here" and get into a brawl with one of the passengers. Only AI can achieve this.

The game having that ability feels like it would at one point end up having an NPC stare you straight in the face and going "I know who you are."

    That makes sense.

I bemoaned how useless AI is in a post a few days ago. To be clear, like many other online tools, it has its uses but it should never be used without the supervision of an adult. Voiceovers, maybe randomised events and posters, maybe even the creation of traction sounds. But otherwise, I can't ever see it being good enough to undertake large jobs. It will always need a human to check what its done and because of that AI doesn't provide what business types would call a "viable value proposition" for every aspect of DLC development (rough translation "replacing humans"). See the heavily AI generated UI in Football Manager 26 to see what happens when a games developer tries to lean too heavily into using AI.

I should do courses on "Management Speak".

You jest, but I can confirm that a VR hack and slash roguelite sword fighting game can in fact be quite a worthwhile alternative that I sometimes substitute for one of my weights or bike sessions. Go at it hard for a few full runs and you'll be pretty out of breath and sweaty by the end. I usually call it quits after the second time I need to wipe down the lenses.

It's quite some time a go that as a native Dutch speaker I looked at the various poster. I could not find anything wrong with them, even thought I would probably not have chosen the themes for these posters like this. In general I prefer this above the white poster boards you can see at other routes.

I agree (native Dutch speaker here too). At most, they are (not too great) jokes. For example this one.

Meaning: "your go-to source for unhealthy food". Which is a bit funny. And also probably true :)

    Think about this...

DTG use a scatter gun tool for tree and foliage placement. It takes 2 minutes to use and does what the name suggests. This is why trees get placed too close to tracks, clip train cabs and get stuck in catenary.

See all that missing OHLE on routes?
That's because it's automatically placed, often not snapped correctly, and not manually checked after placement.

So if DTG can cut corners with AI generated content, do you really think they won't use it?

Of all the food I have bought in or around train stations, at least 90% could qualify as 'unhealthy' :) favourites being the Burger King in Groningen and Smullers in Leeuwarden :)

For me, it's the poffertjes. Can never get enough of them. The moment I see a stand selling them in a station, I'm right there.

Wow—first off, you really picked up on something that’s been buzzing under the surface

AI-generated text in games like ATS or Incredible Trains? Yeah, it makes sense—lots of content, lots of work to do. Some of it reads super polished, maybe even a little… formulaic—but honestly, that’s part of the charm in a way

The community seems a bit split—some people don’t care as long as the text gets the job done, while others notice patterns that feel “just slightly too perfect.” It’s the kind of subtle thing that can make you think about how content is produced—and maybe how we write our forum posts too…

All in all, you framed this really well—the observation itself is sharp, and the discussion it sparks is pretty interesting!

Thanks for this ai generated text. Was definitely worth it.

Pretty sure OHLE is manually placed.

And this tool isn't the same thing as using a LLM.

Some may also get the idea of what is AI and what is just an Algorithm first before stating anything about the usage.

Are you saying that text and images have been falsely accused of being AI, or are you saying something else?

I'm saying something else. Because i come across this more and more when people saying AI but actually talking about simple algorithms like the scattering of assets, or automatic placement of assets. That's not AI. Also lots of other things that are called AI all over is often just a running Algorithm. It is AI when it needs a prompt and does what ever it does in real time after you sent your prompt to it. Anything else, like DLSS and such things, are not really AI running on your PC or in the Cloud. That is just resulting algorithms that might be trained by using AI, but don't need to have to do anything with AI at all mostly.

I mean, I don't really consider LLMs and their ilk to be an appropriate use of "AI". That was entirely a branding decision by marketing people, not actual experts in fields like machine learning and the like...

You can literally look at the terms their own developers were using prior to the venture capitalists investing heavily in them to push something to market, for a while they even tried resurrecting the 80s "Expert Systems" branding, before settling on "AI" as the buzzword.

There's also the fashion that consists to use the word 'algorithm' when one is talking about a computer program.
    That looks good.

The amount of times someone has said social media sites should "do away with algorithms" and I have had to explain a chronological feed, or one which selectively presents posts only from your friends list is still an algorithm. It is a sequence of instructions. Algorithms underpin everything that makes computers functionally useful.

I mean, considering we live in a world where there are people willing to have a moral panic over the teaching of arabic numerals to children, clearly a sinister plot by Al-Gebra.....

Maybe they should train an AI to do some half decent QA before release
