I tried the new timetable on PC/Steam, it was quite good. I took a 47 light engine from Union Sidings and took over a London-Blackpool service, as I was passing through the station (L/E) the 87 that had been ripped came past the other way. My rake was Mk2 Coffins and Mk3s with a BG on the rear. Did that up to Blackpool and jumped off to take over a Blackpool - York service with a short rake of Aircons. Passed a Pool-Blackpool service which was a very mixed rake and included 3 older Mk2s and the RMB (for Vern). It was good to see things looking a bit more lively too, Blackpool in particular had more activity with my inbound service almost racing a light 47 that was shunting. Several services in the sidings too and upon my return to Preston I saw the Harwich boat train come in for a loco-swap too. My only complaint, way too many Leyland Nationals, they are everywhere! Has someone replaced the wrong line of code to replace a car with the bus? Personally I am not too fussed about the lack of older Mk2s as I value the varied liveries more, especially as that old Mk2 model is very dated now. It would be good to have the 31 back at least. Also: Glad to see the red signal approaching Kirkham has gone, hated that - especially in the 31 with it's knackered exhausters.
Great thanks. I do love the new timetable especially with the engine swap at Preston and then shunting the 47 around, it was very immersive, so thanks for the new timetable.
Strange. I've disabled all mods and performed a Steam integrity check but it's still 47s galore here, loading in on foot at 10am also. Same happens if I load into one of the short 86 or 87 services, the locos appear but everything else is still 47s (and 08s, 101s and 142s). The only things I didn't remove were my custom engine.ini and my UGCLiveries file (reskins), but I can't see them having an impact. Will remove those tonight when I get in from work to see if it makes a difference. I also double-checked the timetables weren't mixed up in the interface and I'm definitely loading into the new one, which doesn't offer any 31 or 45 services (sadly)
By 1986 there had been a certain amount of rolling stock cascade but aircon stock was still largely confined to long distance front line Inter City services. The earlier non aircon Mark 2’s had displaced Mark Ones off secondary loco hauled services, such as Waterloo to Exeter and most Scottish internal services. Even then, there were holdouts with the Western retaining Mark Ones on the routes out of Cardiff to Portsmouth, Manchester and West Wales until the Sprinters took over. So there would most definitely not be Mark 2 coffins on Saturday extra services or excursions. Numerous rakes of Mark Ones stock was retained for this purpose and of course the whole enhanced Saturday service/relief trains/excursions was ripe for the sectorisation economy pushes of the late 80’s, when managers cringed at the cost of keeping coaches sat spare most of the time. So at the least, JT need to revert anything other than the Euston to Blackpool services to the non aircon Mark 2’s, with at best an eventual decent TSW blue/grey Mark One fleet taking over.
You have the services out of Lancaster to Morecambe and Carnforth (the latter for the Furness Line and the odd interval service over the “Little North Western” to Skipton and Leeds. Think there’s also a couple of moves to and from Preston including the ECS for the Windermere branch at Oxenholme.
It's a very good timetable, and the new announcements and period cars are great but there's a few minor bits of feedback: I miss the 31 and 45 being there they both added variety, plus it was quite a fun challenge to drive the 31 on this route. Although not very common by 1986, the 40 I think should still be an option as a layer as this is quite enjoyable to run as well. I'll need to check, but it would also be nice to have the 37s and 20s too, as on a busy summer Saturday whatever was available would be pressed into service as Vern says! All over blue Mk1 parcels BGs in mainline passenger rakes wouldn't have been very common by 1986 AFAIK, I think the setup on Preston - Carlisle with the NEA works better, or at least with the Blue/Grey BG. But overall the timetable is a nice addition to the route and brings it in line with the timetables on JT's subsequent routes.
Finally saw some MK2As going to Blackpool North. But it was just a short-form loco-hauled Manchester-Blackpool service.
He's got muddled up, that is the Preston-Carlisle route. To answer your question though, the 142 and 101 are driveable on the Preston-Crewe route for services between Warrington and Newton-le-Willows at least and maybe between Preston-Wigan depending upon what they have put in timetable-wise.
Not had chance to download the update as yet due to work so will be next week for me. With regard the mk2 air-cons…. The Euston services would have them for sure. Other excursions could possibly have them either as a full rake or sometimes, more likely, a few in a rake of older mk2s (I’ve seen numerous images of odd air cons in excursion rakes to Skeg over the years) Over this side of the Pennines though here’s a pic from 1983 at Skeg Vegas of a full rake of air cons on a summer Saturday excursion from/to Derby, Nottingham or Sheffield. (Not my image)
I have played so many services since last night, covering all times of the day and not had a single situation like this. Always at least one 86 and 87 in those sidings as I fly over and take a look each time!
Nah, Skegness was the East Coast's answer to Blackpool, maybe Great Yarmouth too but I always thought that was less chavvy, at least back then As I said a dozen posts ago though, I did see a mixed rake of Aircons with a couple of older Mk2s and even the RBR on the Pool - Blackpool so they are knocking about.
Thank you for the information Vern, much appreciated! I did have a bit of a research last night and there were some XC workings to Blackpool North which also utilised the Mk2 coffins. But I saw that the excursion and Saturday trips like you said were Mk2As/MK1 stock. I'd certainly like to see a balance of the stock on the new BPO timetable, as seeing the new Mk2s does feel nice. So as you say, to see them on the relevant mainline services, but minus the Saturday excursions or regional services. So just the long distance XC & InterCity services that are the most appropriate for them... Although it would be nice to have a rare excursion have them (a random but rare formation). Overall though very impressed with the new timetable it makes the BPO route look completely new.
I've just done some night-time shunting at Preston and did notice that on the overnight trains, the MK 2As are appearing more, but obviously none of them are going to Blackpool. Still though, seen more today in the route than I did last night.
They are the best looking and best sounding loco's ever made! Hope you step barefooted on a plug after dissing the 40
PS5 tt- 1z12 101 7 car. Crashed out after first go via, Kirkham s junction. It may have something to do with my inputs as I couldn't recreate. I was going full speed when I noticed my controller light was red for the signal after the go via. Slammed on brakes, and emergency, but the signal turned green anyway. Still rolling, released brakes, selected correct gear and powered up... and BANG CTD. Just ran again, minus panic braking, and was ok.
Best looking and sounding? You need to stop day drinking! But seriously never liked them in real life. They were unreliable - remember twice having them break down on excursions. I think they were badly designed and that led to their early withdrawal. I also think the TSW model is pretty dated and not that good. But the main reason - and something I enjoy reminding the JT staff is that during their timeline for these routes, the 40s had already been withdrawn. By 1986, D200 was the only one left and that was only running excursions and the like. It's just a shame that due to the way TSW is set up, the 40s in the scrap line at Crewe will have their engines running! Shame on you DTG for not allowing static diesel locos! BTW, I'll share this just for you, I was at a diesel gala at ELR a while back, when the 40 came in, that's the moment I decided to go get some lunch!!!
I don't have such a dislike for them but I do think they are anachronistic on the JT routes. I just wish they weren't set up to appear so regularly. I rarely see a 45 on Shap and they were still around. I believe the unions weren't keen on them as they were uncomfortably loud in the cab. I do love the sound they make though.
Oh the TSW model is very dated and bugged which is why I'm hoping it gets the JT treatment at some point, like the 20 & 47's have. Hopefully with the appearance of some MK1's a Class 25 with the North Wales route set in the early 80's.
Been enjoying the new timetable while i wait for Preston-Crewe to unlock. Good stuff so far, nice seeing the Class 86 and o like the station announcements too.
Weren't Athena supposedly taking on the 40 and 45? Athena who did the botched 47 railtour DLC and haven't been heard from since.
Would love to see the Class 25 in TSW, and they would be so at home on the JT routes in this period, even though they only had a year or so left at that point.
Oh yes please! Had those a couple of times between Birmingham and Shrewsbury or vv. Think they were AEC engine variants so sounded like a cross between a 101 and a 120 - though without the exhaust "fart" of the latter.
I have my fingers crossed the Class 108 is layered on and can be used on BPO when it is released... As much as I love the 101 it's become a bit like eating a cheese sandwich every day, and I want a beef and radish one for a change to give me some variety!
I've tried again this evening, this time removing my GodMode.sav and UGCLiveries_0.sav files from my setup. Still the same unfortunately. That sounds even worse than my problem. I don't see any 87s running around or parked in sidings but I can at least select the 87 services from the TT menu and load them up. When you say not selectable, are you unable to click on them or are they simply not displayed on the train selection screen? Do you own the Preston-Carlisle DLC?
Well, I've figured it out. The 86s and 87s only appear on the route if you enable the "Vehicle Substitutions" option in Advanced Settings. This is not good as it means you end up with a route full of all sorts of stock and reskins from the wrong period. I loaded into Preston and was immediately greeted with a Virgin Trains Pretendolino Mk3, for example. A timetable should not force users to enable this option or to disable all their mods before using it. Edit: The same problem occurs on Crewe-Preston, everything is a 47.
Our timetables have always used substitutions to their full potential as we do it to have a nice variation and people like that. You only need Vehicle Substitutions checked in the menu not UGCLivery or UGCFormation's checked, if it's a mod instead then you'll need to talk to the mod owner as they've got a geographic tag they shouldn't be using listed.
Hi Benedict been having issues with the Crewe to Preston route on xbox series x when i go to do our service to Crewe it keeps saying error and goes off and back to the dashboard not sure if its on you or Dovetail to issue a fix thanks
Really enjoying the new timetable and announcements. I've just been shunting light engines around Preston and are about to take over a train from London while listening to all the comings and goings being announced, it feels like I'm there! Nice work.
Thanks for the reply. The Virgin Mk3 was just an example, the issue affects other stock on other routes / timetables too. Unfortunately these two options have been broken since TSW5 and disabling them doesn't work as intended. Turning them off is supposed to prevent the game from spawning UGC liveries and formations as substitutions, but what it actually does is disable UGC content completely. You can then no longer manually spawn UGC liveries / formations in free roam or timetable mode, you can't see them in the Formation Designer and I seem to recall you can't use them in Scenario Planner. Anything you create yourself or download from Creator's Club basically doesn't exist in the game until you enable these two options again You're essentially left with the choice of being able to use a timetable / scenario as it was designed by the creator, or having access to your UGC throughout the game. Can't have both. I reported this to DTG seven months ago and their solution was to turn the option on or off before every session, and my ticket was then marked as solved. Brilliant. The best workaround I can think of for anyone else wanting to use this timetable without losing access to their UGC in TSW is: - In Advanced Settings: --- Leave Vehicle Substitutions enabled permanently ---- Leave UGCLivery Substitutions and UCGFormation Substitutions disabled permanently - Start your session, and then if and when you want to spawn a custom livery or formation: --- Hit pause and got to Advanced Settings --- Enable the UGCLivery Substitutions and UCGFormation Substitutions options --- Spawn your train(s) --- Hit pause again and go to Advanced Settings --- Disable UGCLivery Substitutions and UCGFormation Substitutions to prevent the game from spawning custom content. - Resume your session. It still won't work as designed but at least it allows you to use your content AND experience timetables as intended. If you happen to fire up Scenario Planner and forget to enable the two options beforehand, well tough, no UGC for you. Ticket #109189 if you want to give DTG a kick up the backside On a more positive note, the new timetable and Crewe-Preston are both absolutely stunning. JB
I was looking forward to the new timetable, finally seeing the 'leccies BUT the omission of the 31, 40 and 45 have ruined it for me, so I'll be sticking to the original timetable for now, hopefully those loco's will be included in the new timetable at some point
The locos simply aren't there in the menu on the new timetable but are selectable in the original timetable
On the original timetable they were spawning way too much, especially 45's if you owned the other pack which contained a 45 in it too. We made some changes to said packs you've mentioned to get them to spawn at a more varied rate but this update has yet to be finalised and come out. We aim on it being with you soon as this will also add said stock to Crewe - Preston.
Will be great to see them added to the timetable. I especially miss the class 31. How often will the 40 appear on the new Preston to Crewe route?
This is where we need a specific D200 version of the class, also upgraded 40's to bring upto TSW6 standards with improved sounds Big Hint Hint, JT
The sounds were okay at the time, but miss vital elements such as the distinct “chatter” when the field diverts kick in and that almighty powerful roar under full throttle. As implemented it’s more of a fast idle.
