I believe a while back it was mentioned by someone from DTG that the median PC player tends to stay more engaged with the game and buy more DLC on a per capita basis, whereas on consoles, despite having more players of the game overall, the median player is more likely to be a more casual player that doesn’t spend as much on DLC.

 

Jan, with the greatest respect. I would have thought some sort of reply here alleviating or discussing the wide range of concerns being expressed would be better optics wise.

 

Going to be free starter pack for me this time around. I am the most interested in the enhanced lighting and grafik settings. I can test them with the starter pack on my current collection and wait for a big discount on Nürnberg and ICE 4. The UK route looks fine, but the trains are very specific to that route. Nothing that layers on my older add-ons. I´m usually always open to driving the US core route... but they made it a stump without a proper end point, so no thanks.

I’m not even getting the free starter pack straight away. I’m sticking with TSW6 until there’s at least some of the initial release bugs fixed in 7. I’m getting some TSW6 stuff in the sale on the PS store instead. Although I do like joining in giving my feedback I’m just not feeling the need for TSW7 right now. For game improvements there’s only really the controller tweaks that interest me, so I’m going to leave it a while and then either get the free starter pack or the Deluxe Edition once there has been time for DTG to get the bigger gremlins out of the way. I will get the Deluxe Edition eventually for the content but I’m in no rush for the routes by any means. If I leave it long enough I could get it in a sale which will be a bigger win for me.

We all have to get the game to continue getting fixes and any new DLC but I’m taking a slower and hopefully less painful approach this year. No need to be rushing in during the buggy phase. Early Access is a marketing ploy and I’ve always thought it to be daft. Matt used early access builds in the console stream when he had the option to use release builds. An odd choice as it’s obviously going to be a bit worse. We all know this is when the game is at its most frustrating and it releases with unfinished features etc. I’m just not having it this year. I’ll wait a bit.

 

I've often had to call upon the services of the Fuel Rats, they will come and rescue you no matter where you are often deploying operation 'Black Buck' just to get to you!

Loved the original on my spectrum and still enjoy trying to get lost!

 

If I remember correctly, FDev offered console Cmdrs free migration to the steam version of ED. I'm not sure if DTG would be willing to do this - hmmm.

So, on a more positive note than recently, i thought I'd try the same service (ICE 682) Matt did last night when it crashed after a few minutes seeing as I'm also using an XSX.

I've got about 15 minutes into it and it hasn't crashed so the crash may be due to having all layers enabled/installed?

Can't for the life of me to get AFB to work though, I've enabled it on the touch screen but just doesn't seem to do anything so might have to go back and rewatch how to use it!

 

Did he think his team had actually fixed TSW? I don't understand how else this could have gone. Oceangate levels of hubris.

 

As I said a year or so back now if DTG staff were forced to play on console only for a month I'm sure they would fix it faster or give it more priority.

I just can't believe 9 months after we were told it was a priority all we have seen are a handful of routes with slight improvement.

If there was only 1 person dedicated to console fixes the ampunt of work hours over 9 months and you still haven't adjusted the removal of locos from the VRAM on consoles. What has been going on.

This feels ljke Deja Vu from TSW5. So obviously we have taken a big step back not forward.

 

I don't think people like Matt and the developers are the issue here. They need time to implement things correctly, solving the issues, checking every route and train for high memory usage and do proper testing. I'm afraid time is their worst enemy, as they don't get it and have to rush for yet another release. This was the perfect opportunity to skip a year (no new game), fix the issues and bring some routes which are not that traffic heavy and/or some smaller routes.

In the new game / routes, some stuff isn't implemented yet, because no time. This is telling everything about the tight deadlines and it's causing more and more issues.

 

Downloading on Steam now. Just gonna try the core routes for now before I do the big download (my total install is now over 500GB).

331 head position is completely wrong - too low and I’m leaning to the right.

If you’re on Steam then yes, because it’s trying to redownload all your past content you already own.

 

All depends on your internet speed and how big your collection is, really, but that doesn't sound too crazy to me.

 

Yeah, you’d have thought he’d have checked in on the console builds at some point, being the EP and all. Especially when he’s about to showcase it - just goes to show why we have so many problems in content when it releases, these people literally couldn’t care less about the state of console builds.

 

You can triage your DLC list on Steam by unticking the items you don't immediately need, then download a few at a time as required.

Despite all the issues I imagine it will run ok for most people on console. I’m fairly sure Matt P’s live stream on Xbox was done with all dlc installed as well as full layers enabled so not that surprising he ran into out of memory problems. Just surprised they were willing to stream it that way!

 

There is little to no testing done on console from what I believe - or at least with dlc’s. This in itself is absurd. It’s also a little entitled from DTG’s side to expect consumers to keep paying for products which have very little quality control.

Unfortunately console users have become beta testers for new products and are then expected to wait for patches to be released following feedback. But again, at least this keeps the CEO happy.

 

You have forgotten how, for example Kinzigtalbahn was running, or the blurry textures on Leipzig - Dresden? Please don't downplay this issue, as it is real.

 

Done my first complete run on Airdale and Wharfdale (XSX), the brief trip on the ICE earlier and here's my thoughts so far.

Positives:
331 is really fun to drive! Managed to trip TPWS and got the voice repeatedly telling me to contact the signaller, took me a few minutes to realise I had to click the overspeed button to reset it.

Really liking what I've seen of the Airdale route so far too.

The UI colour scheme doesn't seem so bad now I'm experiencing it on the big screen, the only thing I'd like to see changed is the yellow text at the top left, I keep thinking I'm speeding.

New camera controls will be good once I'm used to them, great being able to move really fast but keep pushing to the max immediately only for the camera to go shooting off! Will get used to that soon though.

So far, I haven't got any negatives and yes I'm happy i pre-orderd despite my earlier negativity.

Anyway back to normal service so my next post will probably be a moan or something....!

 

I would recommend getting the free starter pack anyway and just keeping TSW6 installed because TSW7 is only free for a few weeks before they start charging for it. Even if you wait until next year to use it (assuming fixes are made), it’ll save you from having to pay.

 

Did you see any Z-fighting in the cab of the 331? The 333 has, as seen in the preview stream on Xbox yesterday. And how about popping sounds on the 331?

 

The issues definitely exist, but the crashing is more likely when all layers/routes are installed. When you have only a handful installed for TSW6, it runs much faster and smoother (and less texture issues, albeit still too many). So it’s a valid point but doesn’t excuse the fact that it should run without crashing no matter how many things we have installed.

 

I thought they were extending the free offer indefinitely this year? Anyhow, might as well grab it Tuesday as there will be no more support for TSW6 including outstanding content fixes from 15th September.

 

Yes fair enough I know the issue is real. I’m not trying to downplay it, just saying it should be manageable for most people - not that being manageable is at all acceptable or anything.

 

No Z Fighting that i noticed and no popping sounds on the 331.

The only bit of audio distortion so far was when I tried the ICE service and got that choppy sound you sometimes get when a game is about to crash. I thought it was going to seeing as I picked the same service Matt did last night which crashed in minutes. It cleared up after a few seconds though.

Just enabled live weather for another run and it's foggy, arrrgggghhh!

One other thing I'm really liking are the settings to automatically enable safety systems as it saves having to hunt for all the switches and keys. I hated having to flip that AWS circuit breaker in the pendolino as it was so fiddly to highlight so will be good if we no longer have to do that.

 

Pretty good so far.

Only ran part of a TriRail service. Audio is quite good and live weather was behaving at least so far. Auto-conductor is cool and actually getting a voice from the conductor to set off is a nice touch.

REALLY love that fast camera movement with gamepad is back. Thank you DTG!

Does anyone know the gamepad shortcut for the bell that was added?

Edit: also are there detailed layer lists for the three routes anywhere?

Did you have issues with the door closing on the 331, watching the British ace right now, he has issues the door of the guard is not closing.

 

Bell is operations-shift then D-Pad up (same as for AFB set).

So far so good on PS5 other than a few possible bugs that someone else mentioned .So far no crashes or blurry textures ..love the Miami route so far as i started with this one since im from US .going to try the other 2 routes later.

 

Anyone have anything to report regarding the changes to dynamic weather? Is it a little more stable and less likely to throw your whole run into thick fog?

 

For the full release at the 15th, there will be an update to make the transition more smooth. So I guess there is nothing useful to say about it right now, as it's not final.
