    Good Afternoon,

I downloaded the deluxe edition of TSW7 and played a career scenario as a test run to see how my system would perform. It was the 1st career scenario for the Tri Rail Route and I must say, to my surprise, I am quite happy with how TSW7 is currently running so far. I have the epic preset enabled with graphics settings set to epic where possible. At 60fps with epic settings, so far it is running smoothly on the TriRail route. In training center, I was reaching 20-29fps with the BL36PH training scenario though. Below are my system specs and settings I have enabled. For my current PC specs, should certain settings be reduced or are they fine the way they are? By the end of this year, I am planning to do a mid life overhaul of my current gaming PC rig, swapping my RTX3070 8GB GPU for an RX9070XT 16GB GPU so I have more performance and VRAM available. I'd say in around 3-4 years, I am planning to build a whole new system that is AMD powered that I can transfer the RX9070XT to. I am sure my mileage will vary for each route at the current moment. My goal is to run all graphics settings maxed out as smoothly as possible with my current setup. Who knows, maybe I don't need a new GPU but would be nice to have the extra VRAM and extra performance

    Current Gaming PC Specs:
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Midtower Case
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 UD AX DDR4 ATX
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6 OC Edition

    Cooler: CoolerMaster MasterAir MA612 Stealth

    BOOT Storage: 1TB WD_Black SN850X NVME SSD @ 7300 MB/s
    TSW7 Storage: 1TB WD_Black SN850X NVME SSD @ 7300 MB/s
Fans: Corsair SP120 @ SP140 with Corsair iCue Commander Core XT Smart RGB Fan Controller
Power Supply: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W 80+ Gold PSU from 2016

One question : Can you change your "screen percentage" with your actual settings or not ? I can't change this if the dlss is ON.

dlss uses screen percentage in its own way i think
i do not recommend using DLAA at all
use quality or balanced DLAA is very power consuming
and if the psu or cables are not of the best quality it could cause problems
    could!

That would be too much for a 3070 to be honest.
My recommendation would be get the Lossless scaling program as you can’t use smooth motion with a 30series card. Cap your in-game fps at 30 and use lossless scaling to give you 60. Plenty of vids on YouTube on how to use it.

My second recommendation (in fact do this regardless of whether you get lossless scaling) is to drop your DLSS mode to Ultra Quality or Quality, that will help matters a lot. DLAA is really for higher end cards.

Thirdly, if you’re still struggling drop the shadow settings one notch in the graphics menu, followed by view distance and then foliage quality (the latter will introduce the foliage pop-in but that might be just something you have to live with).

I’d imagine that if you do 1 and 2 though you won’t need to touch 3.

does foliage quality not just putting more foliage at place's?
i had it at highest and had some popping
only fiddling with the ini distance settings it did improve
and was able to get rid of it almost completely

No, foliage settings include more than that now. There shouldn’t be any need to use ini settings full stop, there is no foliage pop-in with epic settings.

The viewdistance and foliage lods are both set higher than they were in the latest beast preset of the mod.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone, I will look into the lossless scaling program as well. Once I get an AMD RX9070XT, I will then bring the settings back up to epic/max where possible. Many thanks Jetwash for your assistance and implementing awesome visuals, lighting and rendering, natively into the core of TSW. Your lighting and graphical improvements definitely enhance TSW and make it even more immersive.

For the time being, I followed step 2 and a few steps from 3. I changed the DLSS mode from DLAA down to ultra quality. I then changed foliage and sky to ultra instead of epic. Shadow is now at high instead of epic. Since DLSS is in charge of the screen rendering from what I understand, I dropped the screen percentage down to the default 100% instead of 200%, since 200% somewhat defeats the purpose of DLSS. Going to continue playing with the settings for now but I believe the way I have it set now will allow it to run more smoothly and efficiently. Hoping there is a black friday/cyber monday deal on the AMD RX9070XT in a few weeks

I notice as well, catenary wires look better with TAA vs DLSS. It might be though because I am use to the pre TSW7 settings

I definitely am at a happy medium now. Again, many thanks to Jetwash, DTG and the community here at making TSW even better :). The ultra quality and in some cases where there are routes that don't have large hubs or terminuses, DLAA runs decently. I got my settings close to max with screen reduction set to 100% on DLSS and am happy with the result. I gave a test run on the 3 newest routes and with the visuals, they run smooth currently. :)

You can't do that because DLSS algorithms work based on a specific principle: they use a percentage of the native resolution only.
DLAA is the same as DLSS. The difference only in source resolution.
If you end up with too much FPS (resulting in a heavy load on the GPU), use V-Sync. As for the DLSS algorithms themselves, even if they do consume more power, it’s only by a few percent. Don’t mislead people.

It is exactly the same algorithm, using exactly the same AI model. The only difference is that DLSS generates frames at a lower resolution and upscales them to native resolution, whereas DLAA renders frames at native resolution from the start. That’s it.

Reduce screen percentage to 100%, set shadows and view distance to High (these are the most demanding settings). With everything else maxed your framerate should be fine. I have a 2080Ti which is similar performance to a 3070 and am running fine with those settings at 1440p.

destroys Lossless scaling a bit the quality or its ok?
What do yo think about the "frame generation" in the nvidia driver? ok or useless compared to Lossless scaling?

In my opinion, LS is significantly worse and has an excessive number of artifacts during fast camera movement compared to AFMF. I think smooth motion would be better.
P.S. Why not try an optiscaler and replace the FSR with DLDS, and the FSR frame generation with DLSS frame generation? In theory it should work, but I don't have a card from Nvidia.

i have a 5070TI and tried FSR + FG but it really looks like s*hit.
"fast camera movements" is not really a problem because we play a train simulation and not a FPS imo.

Well yeah, because FSR is for AMD cards really. If you use it on an Nvidia card you get FSR 3 not 4. Only AMD cards get 4. With your card you should be using DLSS in DLAA mode and Smooth motion in the Nvidia app. You’ll be glad you did.

yes it is was im doing for now in my tests. I tested also without any AA and the quality is not that bad.

im going for DLAA - Smooth motion - cap 60 FPS - vsync + gsync in Nvidia and Vsync off ingame

I would say put Sky Quality down, it's a resource drain above Very High; that might enable view distance to be snuck up a setting or two.

Agreed. I've left my positive feedback on the Epic settings and new lighting in the Feedback sub-forum, but just to say thanks here for all your work on this. With my setup, I've got DLSS in DLAA mode and Smooth Motion, everything maxed except Sky Quality, and the game looks hugely better than TSW6. The lack of foliage pop-in is such an improvement, and the sunlight through the trees on the one run I've done so far was almost cinematic. Bravo!

i had to stop vsync everywhere because it destroyed the smoothness.
I have an asus OLED gsync and its way way better with only Gsync activated. I cant explain it but im happy with the result.

Optiscaler will replace the FSR 4 output with DLSS, and at the same time add DLSS Frame Generation

Just took a run on the MBTA Boston to Worcester route and I am stunned at the quality with the newest DLSS settings at 100% scaling, 1080p. My eyes most likely just need to adapt to how the catenary wires are handled but overall, this is amazing on epic settings. So far, gameplay is very smooth and my GPU does not have to work as hard. I also notice a bit of an improvement on NY-Stamford under DLAA. GCT tunnels and 3rd rail tracks render better than they did during the early access period. I think the post release patch improved things a bit as well

in your opinion, what's the best TSW7 settings for my pc?

    CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
    GPU: RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
    RAM: 32GB
    Display: 1920x1080 60hz

I thought about using the dynamic super resolution (DSR) to 4K or 1440p or the DLDSR (deep learning super resolution) to 1440p or 1620p from nvidia control panel and mix with DLSS super quality mode or DLAA (all this in epic graphical settings preset with 60 fps cap for obvious reasons)
    any suggestions?

This isn't quite correct, you need a supported input available to output DLSS FG, and since TSW7 lacks DLSSG/Streamline integration your only options for frame gen sources are OptiFG or the built in FidelityFX implementation for FSR. Neither of these can be hooked into DLSS FG through Optiscaler unfortunately.

However, I have been toying around with Optiscaler myself, setting FSR in game to get access to the native frame generation was causing a lot of issues when I tried to translate the upscaling portion of FSR to DLSS with Optiscaler, frame pacing was also rubbish with FSR and it just felt awful all round (I'm on an RTX 3080 - so it's FSR3 and the software frame gen path, not the newer shinier AI FSR4 version that I assume has to be much closer to DLSS FG).

But, I had phenomenal results using the in game DLSS as an upscaler, then setting Optiscaler to use OptiFG (which hooks the inputs from your chosen upscaler) as an input - with Intel's XeFG as the output. It works great on Nvidia cards too with results almost on par with DLSS FG. Here's how I have it configured:
    upload_2026-9-17_21-35-54.png

I also had to force vsync in the Nvidia control panel for the game, as this lets the Nvidia driver take over frame pacing. On my 165Hz VRR display I just use the FPS limiter in Optiscaler as you can see in the above screenshot to keep it all within my VRR range. You'll also need to add the following to your engine.ini for XeFG:
    Code:
    [SystemSettings]
    r.NGX.DLSS.DilateMotionVectors=0
PS, trying to use FSR FG as the output in this setup was causing the game to hang on the splash screen, so far I only had success using XeFG.

Also worth noting - as with all forms of frame gen the quality increases dramatically the higher your base frame rate. TSW is an incredibly variable title so some routes may give poorer results (think Frankfurt and other super heavy stations with tons of track work that cause massive CPU bottlenecks). 40fps frame gen'd up to 80 in that situation probably won't give as good results as a solid 60 doubled to 120 (or higher depending on base frame rate and refresh rate limits) on another route, or even another lighter part of the same route. But if you've already been using Lossless Scaling or Nvidia Smooth motion, this should give much better results whether your input frame rate is 30 or 100, as it has access to engine motion vectors and other data when generating frames. A big one for examples is HUD glitching, there is effectively near zero using the Optiscaler method outlined above.

Maybe something to try with smooth Motion, if you cap your FPS at 30, it can cause some lag, try 28 or 29. I have a 59hz screen, with 29 FPS it's way smoother than with 30fps.

Thank you so much for such a detailed description. I don't need it; I have FSR 4 and frame generation works out of the box, but someone reading your message might find it useful. There are almost no guides on setting up the Optiscaler with TSW 7 yet.

Can someone help me please. I have a RTX 2070 super with ryzen 53600 and 32 gig ram with 4k monitor. I want to use dlss. I don't understand how to use this setting and what my monitor settings should be. Should I be in full screen or windowed and what should my resolution be set at in game. I'm sorry I sound a bit vague with this I just need some help. Many thanks. If someone could tell me a complete set up so I can run the game as smooth as possible.

First you use a 4K monitor with a RTX2070... That's not a very good combination. You're GPU is to weak. And DLSS with a RTX2070 is not bringing anything im afraid. The only best step to go is use of a 1080p Monitor then you didn't need DLSS. The RTX2070 is before the DLSS period. It has support but it's not bringing any progress.

I am also curious to know because I thought DLSS 1st Gen came out on RTX 20 series cards and DLAA 2nd Gen came out on RTX 30 series cards. But from what I read online RTX 20 and 30 series cards can't utilize DLSS 3rd gen. For older RTX cards like 20 series and 30 series cards, is TAA the recommended option? Unless we could use DLSS but not to it's full potential from what I understand

DLAA isnt possible on the 2000 series so yes TAA or FXAA are the main options.

So what your saying is just use the original settings that I had in tsw6 for tsw7 and not use any of the new settings. I have tried dlss and it inproved the picture really nice. Any way thank you for your response. Looks like I will have to upgrade.

Gohsting is mainly the result of unstable FPS in TSW so when you have 30 fps you will noticed that very well. DLSS you can use it but it will not improve your'e fps.

This is complete misinformation. DLSS and DLAA work just fine on 20 series cards. What doesn't work well on older GPUs from the 20 and 30 series are the newer DLSS model presets. Presets L and M are very intensive and not really recommended unless you have a 40 or 50 series GPU. But if you use one of the older presets like E, F or K you'll get the typical increases of performance you'd expect running lower quality settings. However, if you are CPU limited, there will be no benefit - this only helps in GPU bound scenarios.

If you want to force a specific preset for TSW7 you'll need to load up Nvidia Control Panel or Nvidia App and add TSW7 as a game there, then you can force it here:
    upload_2026-9-19_0-13-8.png
I generally recommend preset K. By default without forcing a preset DLAA, quality and balanced use preset K, performance uses preset M and ultra performance uses preset L. K is the lightest, L is the heaviest, M is slightly lighter than L.

So what can happen is that using DLSS performance might actually end up being heavier than DLSS balanced because preset M is much more intensive computationally than K.

The only technology that isn't natively supported by 20/30 series is frame generation and the brand new neural rendering (DLSS5). Upscaling and all of the updates Nvidia has brought since DLSS 2.0 work absolutely fine.

I have an older 2060 GPU but managed to get decent 4k performance out of it using Warrington in Preston-Crewe as the benchmark - I don’t use DLSS, but it get 30+fps throughout the route (often 40-50+). I put a summary of my settings here FWIW:

    That's It. I'm Done

Can you explain the advantage DLAA has over Ultra Quality?

Thank you for this. I've had no problem running tsw on my 2070 super so found it strange I was being told my gpu was to weak. I just wanted to know from my previous coment how to use dlss.

Also I see a lot of people not using vsyc in the game but if I leave it of I see tearing when moving around. If I switch it back on it's gone.

The problem is that SpookieWookie is acting as if I’m talking complete nonsense, but he completely forgets that my response was based on the fact that you’re using a 4K monitor and in that situation DLSS is not an improvement, and DLAA won’t work either. The point is that you simply need to use a 1080p monitor to improve your FPS 4k is to demanding. DLSS does nothing here because you’re using hardware that doesn’t match well with the GPU.

Alright then… If you’re convinced that 4K works with a 2070, go ahead and tell him but just know this is nonsense.

But it DOES work fine (30+fps in 4k) on Preston-Crewe on my 2060, see my post in “I’m done” for the exact settings. So it really isn’t nonsense, unless the 2070 is in some way a worse card than the 2060.

Let me be clear once again… It can work, but you shouldn’t expect a major uplift from DLSS. The fact that you can run the Preston Carlisle route isn’t very surprising it’s a rural route without heavy city density but it becomes a completely different story on Frankfurt S‑Bahn with all layers active. You can turn off all layers and push performance to a minimum, but the real gain comes from using a 1080p monitor. That’s what you actually need here.
    Vertaling naar Engels:

It is true that I mentioned DLAA wouldn’t work, but that should have been Smooth Motion I mixed those up for a moment.

Is it a language issue or do you not know you can use a 4k monitor at 1080p and it scales perfectly?

Yes, you do have a point there. But then why do you even have a 4K monitor, and why did you buy one? That’s why I said: use a 1080p monitor you can downscale the 4K display, it doesn’t really matter how you get it to 1080p, but hopefully you understand my point better now. It’s a bit like buying a 5090 and then playing at 1080p. It works, but it’s not exactly sensible, right?

You can't imagine a use for a monitor other than TSW?

Ok, I’m not using DLSS, you’re right. I don’t even think it’s an option for my card. But the route I used as the benchmark was Preston-CREWE, specifically around the heavyweight Warrington area and then down to Crewe, which was quite jerky in 6 but works as well as Warrington with the settings I eventually worked out.

The point is that his PC is out of balance. He has a Ryzen 5 3600 and an RTX 2070… both are fine on their own, but combining them with a 4K monitor puts the whole system out of balance, and that becomes the bottleneck.A 6‑core CPU and a GPU that’s six years old, together with that monitor, will cause issues and I just want to point out that setups like this don’t help in achieving a pleasant gaming experience.

It’s a very common problem: gamers have a budget and spend it all on one expensive component, while the rest of the system falls far behind and then they complain about quality and not having enough FPS.
