Hot off the press from a few weeks ago that virgin media are closing their email accounts or letting us keeping them for 99p for the first year followed by a price hike to £65/yr): https://www.theregister.com/network...mail-services-to-third-party-provider/5295230 I've finally taken the plunge and spent the weekend changing all of the accounts (that i can remember) to a third party email address. Yes, I know i never should have used an ISP provided email address but I've had it for God knows how many years before gmail became a thing and Hotmail ended up full of spam within 24 hours. Anyway, I've migrated everything i can remember to my new email address, the only one which i can't is, you guessed it, Dovetail live. According to the FAQ, it's impossible to change this because it's used across multiple dovetail services and very difficult in 2026 to allow customers to update their email address. It's 2026. Are you really using someone's email address as the primary key in a database? Is there really no way to change it or do i just have to hope i never forget the password or do I have to delete my account and start from scratch with the new email address? If the latter, to be honest i probably won't bother creating a new account.
Interesting. I’m with BT and the main reason I don’t shop around for a better ISP is because so many accounts for shops, forums, everything else is keyed to their email server. Let’s hope they don’t follow suit. Back in the day, when web hosting was cheap as chips and I had my own domain with associated email addresses that ducked the issue to some extent. But cheap hosting went the way of the dodo, leaving me once again reliant on ISP email or at a pinch GMail. Though not beyond the realms of possibility Google won’t start charging for that.
I'll be in the same boat eventually, I'll take the extra year for 99p to give me a year to sort everything out, having had the same email address as my main one for over 30 years. Come on, DTG, that's so rubbish that you can't change email address. We have a profile name, surely that should be the primary key?
My DTG account runs on a Mail wich was deleted by me 3 years ago. Never needed the adress for TSW. But i agree allowing players to change their emailadress is the most basic thing, especially since DTG has decided to make a yearly repurchaise "abonnement" out of the Franchais. I dont know of any way, maybe a ticket is needed for this change, never tried that.
Back in the day when the only email were from internet providers (AOL, freeserve, etc), I used email re-direction service called Bigfoot so all the emails went to that email address which then got relayed onto my actual address, I don't think they exist anymore. When I got Telewest broadband, I got a Blueyonder email account which has been my email account for years. I've been expecting the day when Virgin Media closed the email account, so I'd better start getting my stuff together to move things over as much as I can. Thanks for the headsup.
Had the same thing moving from BT to VM, BT wanted some stupid amount for me to keep my BT address, just decided to change over to a Gmail address, ok it took a day or two to change but at least l don't get charged
I tried to and failed to get the email changed when I closed myVirgin Broadband back in 2023. My email ends with NTLWorld. But I was told the email account would close after six months. Yet 3 years later, here it is..... Its there until Virgin decide to close it. Hentis
