Something around Smethwick triggers the worst of it on ps5 at least

Agree with this. Used to be I could disable the 350’s and leave everything else on & it would be fine. In TSW7 though every run I’ve done in the 153 has had blurring, which was not the case in TSW6.

Honestly I think AAS routes should be getting whatever methods we currently have available, applied immediately. They’re so much worse than other content.

ECML seemed blurrier than ever when I did a run last night. Started just south of Doncaster and remained. Never had this issue in TSW4 but seems to have got steadily worse over the years on this route.

I’ve tried various settings and toggling layers off, but the blurry textures still appear. I’ve started saving up for a gaming PC—and not just for TSW7. DTG really ought to come up with a way to make the transition to the PC version of their simulator easier. Rebuilding my DLC collection from scratch is going to be very expensive for me; I own a lot of DLC on PS5.

I don't see a way they can do that.
Steam and PS5 are two totally different entities. DTG have nothing to do with where you chose/future choose to buy

Its like me saying I want to change from Mercedes to Ford and Mercedes should be accountable for the cost of me changing in a way.

I guess the only way that could be done is via a DTG store which access could be ported over but then you're opening a whole new kettle of "paying for staff" fish I think

Disable the layers from GWE and SEHS for static stock and see if this solves the issue. For me it did, but I do not have all layers and the loco add-on for this route.

The error was not on my side. It is a consequence of their poor development of this game. DTG is responsible for the state of all versions of the game they sell. If they want to keep paying customers, they will have to fix this error or transfer those customers to the PC version. I work in a car repair shop and I do not favor Mercedes owners. I cannot afford to lose Ford owners. These customers bring us money. What do you think is better? Lose a long-time customer for good, or help them migrate to another platform and that customer will continue to buy from you?

Are DTG just hoping to make it to Gen10 regarding consoles I wonder….

I’ll give this a go, thanks. The GWE remaster seemed to make anything from it which layers into other routes go blurry (ie Riviera) so imagine it’s that causing the issue.

The next generation of consoles will be affected by the shortage and price of RAM. Consoles will be scarce and expensive. DTG has lost my trust in their product. How can anyone guarantee that this problem will not happen again with 10 generations of consoles?

I'm not going to repost what I already posted here about what Century of Steam dev said about VRAM and RAM game budgets.
It's already posted in the other thread.
    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/developer-blog-for-century-of-steam-for-comparison.99820/

I do know that form a player perspective, the settings matter a LOT.
If I try to run EPIC levels on my computer it's a slideshow in built up areas, even on "good" routes.
If I run it at "medium" it looks okay and runs really well.
Same game. Same PC. Different game settings.

So everyone just making blanket statements without details is just giving ONE data point without context. It's like complaining "well the brakes on my car didn't slow the car down very much".... and not mentioning you were going 150km/h at the time. Details matter.

While consoles can't tweak the computer side, they can 100% change settings in game. I bring the "Century of Steam" video up because it's often a "diminishing return" to use the highest settings and then be afraid to use lower ones for more performance. The higher the settings go, the more performance hit you take for less and less actual improvement in graphics.

As the dev says... in the same time the "standard" for RAM/CPU speed was rapidly increasing from 16 to 32 to 64GB, the VRAM (GPU) cards have been more or less holding at 8GB, so the processing is increasing... but the more demanding graphics are inordinately a "wall." While the CPU can "know" there are X number of trains/buildings/etc out there on your screen, it can't detail them fast enough to keep up, so they're "blurry" or not fully rendered because you're demanding each one "look better" without an increase in the power of the graphics card to do that.

The dev from the Thames Valley Branches mentioned the "copying of assets" that the Century of Steam guy hits on too, which is a good compromise, but there's a catch. You can't add layers as well on it, and effects (such as weathering, some lighting effects, etc) So, it's not a "silver arrow." The more "unique" things you have...the more you can't optimize them.

Unique rolling stock, unique "wear states" (dirty, etc), rain effects, seasons, etc. Everything you do that makes something unique takes more power to process and takes up more space. Keep that in mind when you consider all the stock you can now layer in to appear on a route that aren't native to it. Instead of 2 unique trains appearing as AI, you might have 12 different options (or more, depending on locos and rolling stock) all needing a new pallette to work from. So... I can 100% see why 12 different layers at once could devastate performance....and why not having the layers on makes it run better. It's not about how many trains are running (the CPU is handling that part) but more how many different textures the GPU is tracking.

I could be totally getting this stuff wrong, but watch the videos and the devs explain it better. I just think that we're being overly simplistic by just grumping about DTG "not knowing what they're doing" or assuming that it's just "incompetence" for why we can't have better graphics, etc.

The devs make it pretty clear there are limited resource budgets even on the "good" computers and consoles and part of making them run well is not just waving a wand at it... but more making compromises. Intelligent compromises... but still compromises.

Some are more obvious (like not using as many unique layers at once), while others are subtly done but effective.

The part at the end about not making "signs" but rather "using letters over and over" was really well done. Since...well, text is just the same 26 letters in a specific font. If you're willing to give a little in specific font, then you can make virtually unlimited number of signs from those same letters on the same graphics budget rather than making a new, unique "sign" every time.

Same thing with bogie wheels or seat fabric, headlights, etc.

Well another reduce blurring textures update and just tried Franfurt Fulda and as expected, textures blur once again. Giving up running this journey as only around 20% of the way in before textures turned to complete trash

This reducing textures is pretty pointless if DTG dont reprogram the trains to stop them being retained in memory to get around the issue with hitching in gen 8.

Question is have DTG even started this work?

So how about it DTG Matt or DTG Alex . Has this work even started yet or are you just goint to keep pretending that reducing a few textures here and there are going to make a blind bit of difference

(Why am I even asking this question as have more chance of finding Lord Lucan riding Shergar than getting anything other than the usual BS responses or complete silence)

Yeah, really great update on PS5. Textures go blurry around Hanau, as before.

I agree this would probably make the biggest dent in fixing blurryness.

And why they didn't start with this is beyond me.

But I don't see this as complete fix when it comes to busy stations because at that moment you have all the trains loaded at once. And they can't be removed from tge VRAM until you drive away.

And that is where the CTD's are more prevalent because of the VRAM being overloaded all at once.

So the texture issue is just as important to the fixing of the overall problem as well. They need to lower the memory footprint of all trains as much as possible.

Then after all that we still may have them and thats when they need to adjust the scenery.

All 3 are needed. And like I said back when Matt said it shouldn't take so long to fix and I said it sounded like a multi year project to me and so far they haven't proven me wrong.

I bet though you can have 1 or 2 more layers active than before what they did. But still not everything.

But yeah why not start with what would seem to be a fix for the worst offender. Thats what I thought they were doing when they annouced Gen 8 was done.

Tbf, if it deleted all the trains from vRAM, it'd have the space there for the busy stations

Should we remove trains from TSW to improve performance?

No, just from vRAM once they're not in visible range

My screenshot was from a journey out of Frankfurt. Frankfurt HBF was packed with trains. Heading out of the station there was a lot of traffic (serveral Dostos and some BR642). Framerate was not great, but ok and playable. No blurryness.

Blurred textures kicked in on a bland piece of track towards Hanau, no AI-trains in sight. I have the feeling, that the trains are not the only issue and there are issues with the routes itself. If thats the case, the blur-issue wil take additional time to be fixed (if ever, DTG...).

Honestly Riviera has felt worse on blurring for me since TSW7. I used to get half way through the route now it's just a couple of minutes out of the first stations

The routes need texture passes as well. I don’t know if that’s still part of the plan but so far it’s only trains from existing routes that are getting work done on them by the looks of it. This is going to take forever.

Yesterday I went from Hanau to Frankfurt by passenger train. The textures maintained their readability and sharpness even at the Frankfurt station. The second trip was in the opposite direction. The textures blurred in front of the Hanau station. There will be something there that consumes a lot of RAM.
