The Wessex main line would be a great fit for TSW and TSW2 as its been stated that longer routes could be implemented. The route includes countryside and built up areas. The station consisted of only an arrival and departure platform. It first served trains that went from Bristol to bath. It wasn't untill 1841 that the great western railway route of London to Bristol was opened. Because of increased demands between 1871 and 1876 Bristol temple meads expanded. The station at this time consisted of 9 platforms. Having access down to Exeter and Gloucestershire. In 1929 GWR at the time were able to increase the platform size of the station by taking advantage of interest free government loans. Temple meads increased from 9 to 15. Dilton marsh halt station had two wooden platforms. The cost of the construction at the time was £1,134. At the time there was not a ticket office. You had to buy a ticket up the road where a local woman known as Mrs H Roberts sold tickets from here home. In 1969 the name Dilton marsh halt was shortened to "Dilton Marsh" as it is known today. But during this time up to 1994. British rail had plans to close the station. Thankfully from local support this did not happen. And the platforms were rebuilt using concrete. A few years ago now, Dilton Marsh station got platform extensions. So that a full length carriage(Yes a full one) could stop. Although you can still only alight from the front coach. If your on the platform you have wave to the driver so the train stops. If your on the train planning to stop at the station its advised you sit in the front coach and tell the conductor you want to leave the train at Dilton. It would be amazing to have that line in the game but I thinks it’s way too long for TSW, I’m not sure what’s TSW2 is route length is like but I doubt they will get past 70km or 45 miles. They might try Bristol to Cardiff or Swindon to Cardiff but I really don’t think they will have Southampton to Bristol as a full line
I thought there’s a limit with consoles as they can only process so much, I’ve checked the TSW2 article and I’m not sure if they will extend route sizes, hopefully they do though.
442s would struggle as this route isn't Electric. While initially marketed as Wessex Electrics they ran on the SWML I'm going to say this will be unlikely soon because there is a recent JT route for TS Classic covering the northern half of the proposal. I don't think DTG are keen to stomp on third party releases.
The route in total is over 100 miles by car. So don't that would happen. But Bristol to Salisbury is 51 miles by car. That could seriously work. Look how much afford they put in the new German route 30 stations.
Salisbury GWR station was open around 1848 but that closed in 1935 and is now the SWR 158/9 depot, trains currently use the old Southern station which was originally built 1859 which was rebuilt in 1900/2 to it's current state. No 442's EMU's as there is no Third rail in the area. 166 DMU's are on the Weymouth line from Bristol as far as Westbury, I believe 166 units also work to Portsmouth also.
No 442 Units as there is NO live rail to power the route! the name of the unit is not connected with the lines name. Wessex route came post BR and Network Southeast. Wessex Electrics (442's) came in 1988 under NSE, They are not connected! To the OP Well I heard you promotion on the stream about the Road Map. As for the content well the route is a bit of a strange one for me, Salisbury crews only work Waterloo Bristol trains on SWT and now SWR the GWR is worked through by Portsmouth, Westbury and Bristol crews. Operation is mostly Units 150, 158/9 and 166's Something I'm not into personally. would you be doing the stone trains off Westbury? Back in 1988 before the May Timetable it was 33/0's with 5 MK1 coaches and 117 DMU's far more interesting for me personally.
Great Idea! I personally think this would be one of the best routes for tsw3. Love the idea. Needs to happen.
Just searched it up the actual length of the route from bristol to southampton is 63 miles or 100kms so dovetail could make it.
Well this wasn't in the roginal suggestion but would make it better as I've found an proper map of the route with all the stations and depots so you could understand what it looks like (as seen below).
Layers GWML London Paddington to Reading Class 166 Class 66 without the train length indicator. SEHS Ashford to St Pancras Class 66 working train length indicator RHTT. BML ECW 377 Electric portion of the route Redbridge Southampton.
Bristol to Southampton would be really great and no excuse not to give us a 158 in TSW. There would be quite a lot of work involved though - the container terminals at Southampton/Millbrook, Westbury Yard complex and of course the fine station at Temple Meads. For us classic fans, the Class 31 and a reskinned blue 33 and b/g Mark Ones could add a “Legends” heritage loco hauled timetable.
As it was quite awhile now. TSW3 has appeared. So this route would be great for the newly released TSW3.
Thus far (like in every game franchise) the South West in Train Sim has been treated as a tourist destination only. Bristol Temple Meads, like New Street, is an absolute necessity to add and would be welcome here. Issue lies with SWR as it seems they are stubborn to negotiate with DTG (well, Rivet in this case but you’d expect this extends to Dovetail too as it would be odd for them to have a vendetta against one developer) as per the rubbish Island Line fake branding. As with CrossCountry, get them on board and a whole wealth of opportunity is suddenly open in the UK.
BR era either loco hauled or even early Sprinter era up to mid 90s would get round the licence issue. The focus would be on the cross route traffic anyway not the SR stuff.
