    So I played around with some settings in the game, and my hardware and I was able to retain a clear and sharp image no matter how much I bump down the screen percentage and get constant 30-40fps in dense areas of the map. So I'm going to share some of my information for someone that wants the same thing.

    Acer Helios Predator 300
    i7-9750H CPU@ 2.60GHZ 2.59GHZ
    GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB
    RAM 16GB Refresh rate 144Hz
    1980x1080p

    Engine ini:

    [SystemSettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale=7
    r.StaticMeshLODDistanceScale=0
    foliage.LODDistanceScale=4
    r.MipMapLODBias=-3
    r.TextureStreaming=0
    r.MaterialQualityLevel=0
    r.TemporalAASharpness=1.0
    r.SSR.Quality=2
    r.Color.Mid=0.4
    r.MotionBlurQuality=0
    r.SceneColorFringe.Max=0
    r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
    r.Tonemapper.Quality=0
    r.AmbientOcclusionLevels=4
    r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
    r.TemporalAASamples=64
    r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=1

    Nvidia Control Panel:

    Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
    Gamma Correction: On
    Antialiasing Mode: Enhance 3D Application
    Antialiasing Setting: 2x
    Antialiasing Transpency: off
    Low Latency Mode: off
    Multi-Frame Sampled(MAA): off
    Power management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance
    Texture Filtering- Quality: High Quality
    Threaded Optimization: off
    Vertical Sync: On
    WhisperMode: Max Performance

    Game Settings:

    TAA Antialiasing
    All graphic settings MAXED
    Screen Percentage: 150%
    Vertical Sync: On

    here is an article that helped me get my settings to where i wanted them to be:

    Hopefully this helps someone!!!

    What is the Video card model and what is the resolution the screen is running at, this what would make the biggest difference in the performance

    So I may some more additions to the Engine ini to further sharpen the scene images, reduce impact performance and help with quality. These are the addons I made:

    r.AmbientOcclusionLevels=4
    r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
    r.TemporalAASamples=64
    r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=1

    Editing engine.ini doesn't work for me. I tested it on distant hills where trees appeared during the approach.

    [SystemSettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale = 20

    I increased the default value 20 times without any effect. I've used it in previous releases of the game and it seemed to work. Not now.

    EDIT

    I also used a few of your settings presented above - I took screenshots before and after - in my opinion they are the same. But maybe it's only for me :D FPS without any changes.

    I can believe in burying the NVIDIA settings!

    r.Color.Mid=0.4 will reduce brightness, which is not the best solution to fix TSWs dark shadows in daylight. 0.5 is the "normal" value, anything below will reduce the brightness.

    You are looking at distance scene with Draw distance, I don't really pay attention so much with scenery other than the r.TextureStreaming=0, foliage.LODDistanceScale=4 those are the main settings for that. As far as r.Color.Mid=0.4 goes, default tends to wash out alot of colors with bloom at full effect. So toning it down it help with getting colors back.

    Nvidia Control settings work in certain situations as long as your expectations match what the controls can do, but you have to test this out alot and do some research on what ue4 controls do.

    This helps tone down the ridiculous amount of bloom and washed out colours TSW has on most routes by default.

    I made some screenshots with Amtrak131' settings. Tried different routes. They all looks exactly the same as default. You guys really see some changes?

    I definitely see changes in the texture quality. Especially TAA. Which now goes from smooth to smooth and sharper. Which helps when you want to bump down the screen percentage, but take a picture on a object and run a test on them and play around with the settings for your pc. These are the settings i used based on my pc. It may affect everyone differently.

    Made a change and further increased in image sharpness with:

    Antialiasing Setting: 8x

    rather than 2x

    Alright this thread should be pinned. I was able to tweak the engine file and Nvidia Control Panel to his recommended settings and I'm now getting 70+ fps in the high speed ICE train in heavy rain! Compared to the 20-30 fps and constant stuttering I was getting beforehand.

    Much thanks!

    New update:

    those of you who like me use Nvidia graphics cards should visit the nvidia control panel and change the “WhisperMode” to max performance which for me is 120fps

    also i was doing some research on the possibility of unlocking the refresh rate which for my laptop is 144hz that is normally locked in games to 60hz.

    add the following to to the engine ini:

    r.TMaxSmoothedFramerate=144

    this is dependent on your monitors max refresh rate. Mine is 144hz

    And add to gameusersettings file:

    bSmoothFrameRate=True
    MinSmoothedFramerate=0
    MaxSmoothedFramerate=144.0000

    you can change these numbers and try out. Let me know of your results
