This would make a nice DLC for the Clinchfield route

The more suggestions the sooner steam might get thought about some more by the dev teams. I’m longing to drive the little British Jinty.

I can't wait for steam to finally come to TSW. The sooner the announcement, the better! But for now, it's not on the roadmap!

It won't surprise me if we see Flying Scotsman as the first steam locomotive in the game. Personally, I want to see a GWR 5400 pannier, 1400 auto tank and the LNER A4s.

To me, the logical first steam locomotive would be something that runs on the WSR...

I want a far west route with train running valleys and mountain areas. Also to be able to transport logs and freight to remote work camps :D

I remember the old Murchison route from Trainz. It is terrible in quality compared to today´s standards but it had a lot of places to go full of working areas and old stuff.

Trainz: Murchison 2 en Steam (steampowered.com)

    Cheers

It would be nice to have a PRR route to run it on first!

TSW has a steam engine allergy, although they could just reuse some of the files from TS2020

I would probably say that they have a “Proper manual/documentation of available locos in TSW” allergy. I am pretty sure that they figured out how to simulate steam engines in Simugraph. The issue that still isn’t resolved in my opinion is how to make them accesible to the casual user that just wants to load route X and press a button and drive it. If people are currently having issue driving diesels which are with all respect to them a lot easier than steam, can you imagine the atomic bomb that would go off here in the forums or anywhere when they realise that they can’t move an inch? Missing manuals or too simple ones sure don’t help either. Cheers

Along with the Somerset and Dorset to run it on...

It can be done in an arcade fashion as Taito demonstrated with their Kisha de Go spin off from Densha de Go and Tomy with their SL de Ikou games (latter had a really nice route, too) both on the PS1. Just so long as there is an easy mode for the casual player, but those of us who want the more in depth simulation can choose how deep that goes.

I personally would like to see a Standard 4mt or a Standard 5mt; built for both freight and passenger and a more modern steam locomotive.

Actually a Standard 4MT 2-6-4T tank loco would be excellent. Never seen one at work but I remember ogling the (then) unaffordable Wrenn one as a youngster browsing the model railway catalogues.

Have fired them a few times and enjoy it immensely. I would definitely love to see them in game.

I don't like European steam because of the whistles that are so high pitched.

I'd love to see some of the old Prussians, preferably on the Preußische Ostbahn, a very historically significant route.

    Prussian P8

Prussian S10.2 (this one is in NS service after WW2)

However, I'd also like some '20s and '30s or maybe post war German steam, with the BR 01 or 03 and any of the 2-10-0 heavy freight engines.

    BR 03

    BR 44

However, there are many more steam locos I'd like to see. The SP GS class locomotives and Cab-Forwards, and maybe even some other large american passenger steam locos like the T1. I wouldn't mind seeing British locos either.

How about a rout in Asia, South America, Central America, or Africa.

I'm not much in this steam thing, but if there would be ever an appropriate german route set in the 1930s, we should get a SVT 137...

I’ve mentioned the same as well in several threads on here, I would absolutely love to have the 611 in game. I have had the opportunity to run the 611 in real life, and would love to have the chance to get her on the mainline in the game and stretch her legs a bit! I believe she can run around 110mph if opened up!

I think an auto fireman mode would solve a lot of those issues. I think the other major issues folks could have is adhesion and wheel slip in some conditions. If you take out firing and maintaining fire and boiler pressure the actual operation is not that difficult. I think the biggest thing the game will lack is that operating a steam locomotive has a certain level of feel to it, if done right they could probably get close but sound and feel play a pretty big part in the operation. I for one would love a fully realistic steam mode, where it takes you a day ahead of time to light the fire, and get the locomotive ready. the fire needs to be managed before running up a grade or drifting down a hill. Or even a hostler mode where you’re just getting the locomotive ready for a days work. I know at least for me I would hope the steam locomotive simulation on here is a deep dive! I want the full experience just like the real thing! I’ve had the opprotunity to run and fire some steam locomotives and it’s an amazing experience!
