Today, I am suggesting South Western Railway for Train Sim World 2. Most of the information can be found in this video: This is a suggestion for two different routes that could possibly be connected together. The first route would see SWR running services from Waterloo - Portsmouth Harbor via Woking and Claygate. It would also see trains running along the Chessington and Epsom branches and a branch to Dorking. The second route would see SWR running Metro-Style Services from Waterloo to Wimbledon via the various loops and branches in Southwestern London. Rolling Stock Class 442 Class 444 Class 450 Class 455 Class 456 Class 458 Class 701 Class 707 All of these pieces of Traction Probably wouldn't be in one route, so I'd say just include the 701, 455, 450, and 458 as those are the most interesting (for me) out of this bunch. Tell me what you think about this suggestion.
As a person who plays this route in ts2021, I think this would be a good idea. It would be fun to play and it has some nice scenic parts as well
That is good to hear. While researching it, I really liked how some of the scenery looks while coming into Portsmouth.
Great suggestion. The only traction you’re missing on the list is Class 158/159 sprinters which run the London Waterloo to Salisbury services. Waterloo to Portsmouth is 73 miles. I would probably have the initial route to be London Waterloo to Basingstoke not just because it’s more realistic (47 miles) but also because this is the heart of the South Western Mainline. Initial traction could be Class 444/450 (both are almost identical) and Class 455. Then I would have the following extensions: Basingstoke to Salisbury with Class 158/159s Woking to Portsmouth with Class 442s Clapham Junction to Windsor/Reading with Class 458s/707s Southampton/Basingstoke to Reading to connect with GWE with CrossCountry Voyagers (Class 220/221) Guildford to Reading to connect with GWE on the North Downs Line Class 158/159 in SWR and SWT livery
You've really added more to this suggestion. I appreciate it. I'm American and I'm not too familiar with the British Railways (Outside of TFL Services), thanks for adding your input into this suggestion. It seems like there would be a fair bit of DLC that could be added to this if it was created (with extensions, and possibly some rolling stock DLC).
No problem The South Western Mainline is one the busiest networks in the country. Approximately 40 trains operate in each direction per hour. London Waterloo had over 100 million entries/exists in the year (obviously before Covid)making it the busiest station in the UK. Here are the screenshots of all departures and arrivals at London Waterloo today for the previous hour 3-4pm. There are almost 80 trains departing/arriving in the hour! The other great thing that you’ve already discussed is the amount of traction that operate on the route. https://www.opentraintimes.com/maps/signalling/wat#T_WAT Here is the map of the SWML. London Waterloo has 24 platforms and an extremely complex layout particularly from Waterloo to Clapham Junction
This makes me want this route even more. I didn't know about this LARGE number of services. It would well be the busiest route in the game, if it is ever made.
A must have route. Waterloo to Basingstoke with branches to Chessington South and Hampton Court plus the freight from Tolworth yard amongst others. With all of the Classes at the top of the post as well as the 4PEP and 2PEP class 445 and 446 units from the 1970s which were short lived. For freight workings we could have classes 33, 66 and 73 or perhaps even a 71 or 74 as throwbacks. So many opportunities to work with.
id love to see this, especially the idea to basingstoke, with the branches to hampton court and chessington. of course the large amount of services coming out of waterloo would not all be simulated, but the game would be able to handle enough to make it satisfactory. also, the dispatcher shouldn’t have too much of a hard time, as there are between 6 and 8 tracks until clapham junction, which is the busiest section, and then a minimum of 4 for the rest of the route to basingstoke.
What also makes the SWML fascinating is that it is the only commuter company in the South which has a guard on every single train. Every other company/network with a heavy intense service are all or mostly Driver Only Operation- SouthEastern Southern, Greater Anglia, GWR, CrossRail, London Overground, C2C, Thameslink, etc... Not only that, but guards have full door operation. A lot of companies that do have guards (mainly the high speed/long distance services) have driver release and guard close. So I think this would be a great route to have a guard mode. One of the common complaints about guard mode is, “it will be boring, you have to wait half an hour between stops” etc... Some of the services on SWR are very intense with stops every couple of minutes. Take a look at this service from Waterloo to Weybridge. Just to reiterate, guards release the doors, close the doors and give the bell/buzzer at every station. Even better is if there was a very simple multiplayer mode where you and friend can play together with one of you the driver and the other being the guard.
I honestly didn't know SWR used Guards. I've been wanting a Guard/Conductor Mode for some of the routes in-game. Maybe since guards fully control the doors IRL, it can be implemented that way in-game as well (By either having an AI Guard, have the player switch to the Guard's POV while in a station, or a dedicated Guard mode. Maybe even all three can be an option).
701’s are replacing the class 707’s, 455, 458, 456 and the 701’s are still in testing and are not in regular service yet. Therefore if this route were to be featured it would be best if the classes 450, 444 and 442 were to be featured Also there is a south west trains door training video attached below:
Here is a birds eye view of trains leaving Waterloo for 10 minutes. Maybe check it out in 2x speed. It’s incredible how many trains there are- regularly you can see 4 or 5 trains in one shot! And it’s incredible how many different types of traction there are. Most companies have standardised to only one or two traction but SWT/SWR have 9 different traction. I know I’ve already said it but it‘s also incredible how every single train you see in the video has a guard. (In the near future, SWR will be standardising their traction on metro services when the 701s come into service. And sadly, the days of the guard at least on metro services look numbered)
Yes yes yes yes I love those trains. I am German but I just love the 455 and the 450 in that livery, so colorful and cool! And they have nice sounds as well. I would definitely buy this one!
P Please, if you're going to ask me to review something else, PM me, don't put it directly on another suggestion.
suggested this many times but only for it to be Waterloo to London or basingstoke to poole/portsmouth, and btw in your vid its pronounced ports muth
Didn't know that was the pronunciations for it. I just said it how I saw it. If I make another suggestion for a Route down to Portsmouth, like Southern or something, I'll remember that.
I'd love the full route but I wouldn't mind just Waterloo - Woking/Basingstoke. I also really want Waterloo-Reading because I have travelled on that line a lot on the 450, 455 and 458
Honestly, for a route with varied gameplay you would want Waterloo to Reading including the Windsor branch, branch to Strawberry Hill (probably not as far as Shepperton but it's a possibility), the Hounslow loop and a branch to Weybridge via Chertsey. Allows for alot of varied gameplay and if that is too ambitious then it can be scaled back to make Windsor the eventual terminus rather than Reading. That way, you can do many different stopping patterns and services within the same route. Plus I can tell you the stock on the windsor side are much better to drive than the mainline side! Portsmouth Direct via Guildford is a good route idea but it's very linear in terms of gameplay even with the other branches - Hampton Court isn't much of an addition but and the New Line via Claygate is only used for Portsmouth Direct diversions and stopper services to Guildford. From Guildford - Portsmouth it's incredibly linear. Pretty, but linear.
Other than they are now going to be regeard back to 100mph, reverted to 4 car and will be used instead of the 442’s
Exactly, Of which they’ll yet again be reclassified within the subclass. We predict 458/4 - hence why the distinction is important.
Excellent idea and for the Class 442 they have a different propulsion system a GEC DC Unit until 2018 when Geoff Marshall did a Class 442 video with alternating current propulsion unit made by Vossloh Kipe. Therefore the class 442 needs AC propulsion instead of DC propulsion unit if set in 2019-2021. Class 701 can be a dlc here
701’s are currently delayed and none are in service yet due to COVID, disputes over DCO and software problems. Therefore if it was set in the Stagecoach A swt era you could have the 450, 444, 458 and 442
I'd love to see the 707 as well. They were introduced right at the end of SWT so they're sort of fitting. The only difference between SWT and SWR 707s is the sticker on the side. Also they're nice trains in my opinion...
The south west mainline I want released is the Reading to waterloo because on TS2021 They don't have that route available.
I know I'm very late, but one thing I'd love to see is the London Waterloo to Weybridge route because I live on that route. I only have TSW2020, but I do hope that they add more stations on each route, as well, because each route is restricted to pretty much a straight line, with a few turns here and there, most of which, you can't even use
And they are still delayed because the build quality is horrific! I gather Doors have been coming open in motion during testing
Interestingly people have noticed the West Midlands Aventra's have switched to a new cab mid build - compare the first built unit with later builds - wonder if SWR will end up going the same way. Apparently the 701 cab is designed so that a 1x10 and 2x5 are the same length with doors in the same positions for boarding position markings. Platform Edge Doors anyone?
In response to your first paragraph, new cabs are being build with modifications as specified after the delivery of the first cabs. And in response to your second, it’s for passenger assistance and uniform stop car mark purposes rather than PEDs.
