These are stock images from UE itself. If you look at the UE5 preview they show these rocks as default insertable options

Well the library seems to have a bunch of snowy Alps assets as well... could've been used on Arosa

I have a feeling that the two studios are in a different league. If Cane Creek ends up being relatively bug-free then my belief will be even more reinforced.

My thoughts on this are that Rivet stuck to building everything from scratch, in the same way as DTG seem to. Cane Creek seems to use the UE included scenic elements from mid view onwards, so the creek and mountains look excellent. But the close view items look the same as ever, low res, badly drawn and a bit "blah"
That was my impression from LAST week's stream, I haven't watched yesterday's as yet but don't think it will be that much different...

I think if you get it on pc you’re lucky, ps4 and that were night and day. I love the look of it but I don’t want three hour services up and down a lifeless line.

Skyhook to their credit have made rivets arosa commentary about trade off between visual and frame rates more null and void even to a non tech like me. To be fair CRR did,too

I would imagine water comes under UE default also. Last time I noticed the road, railbed etc looked awful comparatively

I will be. I may even watch more than 20 minutes if it's less boring that last week's 20mph stroll

Yes, it looked OK from a distance or the point of view of the loco, but we didn't get a close-up. Was it "flowing"? That's the standard I use and it's rare so far on TSW2. That part of the Colorado is known for its rafting and curvy, almost whitewater profile, especially around the Moab area.

From your last post I thought that you didn't feel like the PS4 version of the route would look much different from the PC version. In that case, go watch the stream. If your problem with this route is that you do not like slow routes or routes where there aren't many stops or other trains to watch, then save your time ;)

The difference between the PS4 and PC builds in that regard is night and day. Near terrain is fabulously detailed on PC where on console it was a pixellated muddle.

Glad to hear the trackside scenery is better on PC than it was on last week's console preview. I think I will definitely get it when it comes out. Might be a bit "boring" driving wise, but I don't mind. I bet the scenery makes up for it and I'm ok with a slower place, as long as there are things to look at. And this route looks like there will be plenty to look at.

Well isn't that the way it's supposed to be? What's the point in getting into Unreal Engine if you don't use any of it's features?

Yeah, got 15 mins in and then got bored... Seems like the point of this route was to make something pretty rather than something with interesting game play. As Matt himself said, the challenge in this one boils down to throttle and brake control to make sure you keep a consistent speed

For me, dealing with the brutal power of American diesel locos is a reward in itself. But I can imagine more attractive gameplay.
Full cold start, better sounds, more challenging physics (couplers endurance), etc. Maybe one day.

I agree that the rest can be "blah", I didn't overlook that part. It's just that I think it's great that they're starting the actually use the engine more - if that's really the case, that is. Hopefully they will earn to use it more to get better results for close scenery as well.

I think it will help very much using the default additions, but it will also mean they need to step up their own creation game if they don't want such a disparity in near and far definition. It was stark when they played on PS4.

So, while I understand why they didn't include the spine cars with the containers, I still think they could of implemented them without the use of a container loading system, by using the same method that Oakville Subdivision used for loading tankers.

The timetable would have the player build the train and move the cars between Moab and Crescent Junction, while the train sits at each location between services, which "acts" as the cars being loaded and unloaded at each area.

The only thing that would need to be changed between each service is the weight of the cars, as empty containers are hauled back to Moab.

Of course all of this is moot at this point since they are most likely never gonna come now (Unless a future loco DLC adds them as "scenario only" rolling stock)

On another side note, wonder if Skyhook would consider the Rocky Mountaineer as a potential DLC add on to Cane Creek in the future, as later this year they will be running a train from Denver to Moab and Arches National Park.

They just ran a training train on July 2nd

Excellent idea, hadn't thought of that myself. But, as you say, the train has left the station.

But there's still no release date shown on Steam, just "Coming Soon". Shouldn't it be available for pre-order by now?

No pre-order will be available according to JD. You'll be able to buy it on release day.

I'm just relaying what JD said on stream. As DTG are still claiming that no TSG DLC will release this year, all of their 3rd party info is to be taken with a grain of salt, however.

Cane Creek releases this Thursday and no Pre-Order. If you go back and watch the last Cane Creek stream JD drops the surprise of it's release.

Thanks everyone. It was my understanding, too, that Thursday is the day and there's no pre-order discount :(. Just a bit surprised that Steam still isn't showing a date, two days before launch, or allowing pre-orders.

I would like to point out to the person requesting a realistic full cold start that such a start on an AC4400CW would need over 10 minutes just for the systems to initialize, before the engine start (and warm-up) sequence - there is a reason crews leave the loco idling (or in AESS mode), just as a realistic emergency stop on a long consist would require 20-30 minutes for brake pump-up. At the moment, if you want maximum realism on an AC4400CW, you will need TS and Searchlight Simulations AC4400CW on the Canadian mountain Passes DLC. That will take the boredom out of braking operations!

Please fix the car sounds, LOL this is crazy it sounds like I am standing in the middle of an interstate with thousands of cars going around me louder than the train and I all I see is a small dessert road with no cars on it at all, how did you miss this?

Hmmmm...recycled locos...recycled rolling stock...not wanting to build the correct type of car for the dirt train.
Gee why does this pattern sound familiar to me?
O that's right dtg did the same thing with HHL.
You would think skyhook wouldn't do something like this for there frist route after all the backlash dtg get's for doing this so much.
So for 30.00 all we really get is a hot rocky sandy new environment...I thought this was "train sim world"not environment sim world".

It looks great. I especially like the night lighting under the near full moon - its excellent.

    • the loading scenarios say you are dropping an empty train and taking out a full train in the description - actually you are loading the empty train
    • When loading, instead of potash the loader says "loading aggregate"
    • the material being loaded is black instead of bright white
    • while loading the covered hoppers don't open but seem to fill up anyway
    • like Clinchfield on the grades its easier to drive through the loader then push backwards up the hill under power to maintain low speed instead of juggling the brakes
    • the bright blue solar drying pools for the potash are missing
    • the sd40-2 number lights pulse/flicker as you move around outside
Apart from these things (and the known sound issues - I'm sure a mod will drop soon) it seems pretty decent so far. I'm sad I have to work now.

Ambience sounds for vehicles on highway are way too loud, drowns out the normal ambience and there sounds of constant passing cars not matching actual traffic on highway.

Challenge accepted... having to pay attention at the end of a long run to stop right at the buffers at the end of the siding - that's just mean :).

You're right that the sound is too loud and that it has nothing to do with cars. Cars don't make noise. Sound emitters that play sound ambient sound files along the route do. It does need to get turned down though, its annoying. I noticed this on stream and on the services I've run. It's at the starting point on the mainline that its like this. Everywhere else is fine.

Wow!!! Are those actual un-edited screenshots?????
The skybox looks entirely new with all those star constellations, and the scene is actually visible!

Ladies and gentlemen, I think Skyhook just nailed nighttime lighting for the first time in TSW! :D

Are there moving crossing gates on Cane Creek? If no why aren’t they animated if it can be done?
