    Afaik there's a difference if your shortcut directly links to RailWorks.exe (manual shortcut) or is pointing to "steam://rungameid/24010" in which case Steam should be launched automatically.

    24010 starts the 32 bit version, at least how it's installed here.

    It should start the version you have set as default in Steam.

    That has been there for a while now, It probably never asked you in a dialog, do you want to launch 32-bit or 64bit. It asked me after an update. And I of course choose 64-bit to launch as default. But I have NOT used the desktop shortcut in ages. I will try it, and see, if it honors my choice to be always launched 64-bit.

    I checked it just now. And although I have it set to launch 64-bit, when i double clicked the desktop shortcut..... I was instantly taken into the 32-bit version.

    You are right Kris. I deleted my old shortcuts and prompted Steam to create a new one after setting 64 bit as the default and it just launches 32 bit. So we still need a solution, preferably an offcial one!

    That's because the "default" option sets the default only for launching the game with the "play" button in Steam app (for launching the game immediately instead of showing the launch menu). Steam URL shortcuts aren't affected by the default option.

    Can you please add AI triggers in the scenario editor, so that we can trigger the start of a specific AI service with a trigger placed on the track?

    is the "fast load" launching option going to be implemented to the core game for everyone or we still need to have it on the launch settings?

    Umm.... it was implemented into the core 30th September 2021 > https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/train-simulator-2022-update-notes-30-09-2021.46072/

    Having -fastload in your launch settings does nothing at all, in fact there was a new launch parameter added (in Sept 2021) to disable it now instead which is -DisableFastload

    Clearing the Catch also takes you straight to 32 bit...
    About routes not getting "put in the modern time"... well, what about the whole new Portsmouth Direct Line they did a couple of years back? It´s not like, it´s never happenend.

    With that the best option would be to choose not to reset - and close the game manually instead, then re-load the game as 64 bit.

    Rather than routes being brought into to the modern era, they should all be upgraded to steam era ;) Joking aside, these updates might tempt me to return to TS Classic. Game stability is mainly what put me off TSC, if that gets fixed and the also game ends up running as smoothly as TSW on modern hardware then I'll be more than happy to reinstall it :)

    Will be nice to be able to fully enjoy both TSC and TSW together.

    I think somewhere the dev update says not to expect performance improvements of this particular update.

    Hi All,

    Good to see all the comments, thought I'd help clear up some things and answer questions:

    Correct. It was necessary to update to VS22 because DX12 is VS22 only and cannot be implemented on earlier versions. This is a great achievement and a quantum leap forward as we now have much more powerful tools available to help us in our quest to improve TSC.

    Contrary to JD's response, Windows 7 is still supported for 32-bit and 64-bit. However, you will not be able to run the DX12 option unless you update to Windows 10 or higher. DX12 is not supported on Windows 7 or 8/8.1.

    Correct. Our mission for this update has been entirely about making the software much more stable than it currently is.

    Phase 1 included the implementation of DX12 - though at this stage it is largely experimental whilst we gather more data from you on where it hurts/soothes the most. It is likely though, we may need to look at other options such as Vulkan to achieve our goal for improving performance for Phase 2. Incidentally, Phase 2 work starts 2nd May and we will be opening a public beta when we have something ready for you to get into. More on that soon!

    Phase 2 is going to be almost entirely about performance and content management and we're going to need your help with it as we go so we can understand what's working and what isn't - I really hope you'll all get involved and help us make TSC what we all want it to be.

    See the official announcement on Steam: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4784-4F2B-1321-800A

    At the moment, my goal is to tidy 32-bit up so that it provides a legacy option for players who may use content that is not compatible with 64-bit (there are a few rare instances out there still). We've still got some additional checks to add in and a few more error catching routines to include to prevent crashes but, once completed, we will be ending support for 32-bit and it will see no further updates beyond that time. The current estimate is Q3 2023 for 32-bit to come to a close and you will no longer be able to launch it unless you opt into it.

    Unfortunately, this a consequence of Steam because 32-bit is our default option. When 32-bit is retired, 64-bit will become our default option and that should then resolve the issue. This will also be the time when you make changes to settings in-game, that it relaunches the correct version when you click restart.

    Fastload is part of core - there is no need to use a launch option to use it. You use -DisableFastload if you want to turn it off.

    Hope this helps.

    Best, Steve

    Does this mean that TSC could be on DX12 before TSW?

    As I only have TSC that suits me fine.

    Hmm. Now split up into three threads, anway:

    TrainSim-Steve

    I want to suggest making the Adaptive Bloom shader configurable via the ingame Options menu. (I'm aware this might not be possible due to the shaders needing to be precompiled)

    There has been an update with TS2020 I guess, which modified the parameters to an extent that it became unusable - especially at night where contrast between darkness and bright dials and displays is high. The old shader was much better, I'm sticking to it and have posted it here on the forums by request.

    TS2019 -> TSC
    PreBloomBoost = 2 -> 6
    BloomThreshold = 0.45 -> 0.65
    PostBloomBoost = 1.0 -> 3
    width = 1.5 -> 5.5

    These parameters are way overblown.

    Could you supply the previous shader (RailWorks\dev\shaders\train_post_bloom.fx.o - 28,988 bytes) with the next update again? If that's not on your machines anymore, I could supply it :)

    I've dug out the most relevant threads describing the details:

    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/fix-adaptive-bloom-revert-to-pre-2020-shader.48574/

    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/adaptive-bloom-ts-classic.63117/

    I know possible Editor updates are going to form part of a future topic, but one I would like to highlight again and surely shouldn't be that hard to achieve is the intensity of the projected line when laying eased track. As this image shows...

    trackguide.jpg

    ...it is virtually impossible to see where the extruded line will go when setting the initial radius. Once the easement has been placed the continuation at the fixed radius turns white so slightly easier to follow but the whole thing needs to be much less discreet and more vivid.
    We also really need a wire frame mode to follow the track when laying under the terrain, though accept that might be harder to achieve.

    They didn't promise it would get rid of it, just reduce it. I also doubt the update will fix crashes caused by corrupt routes.

    I must be doing something wrong. In previous years I was able to purchase TS Classic even though I already owned it to get the extra routes. I want the Deluxe Bundle as I don't have any of the DLC. However if I add it to cart, it won't let me purchase it as it says I already own it. It will only let me purchase it as a gift for someone else.

    Should I be able to do this?

    Small bits of "thanks", respect. I see the deluxe editions are now complete your collection style, offerings appear logical and fairly generous, too.
    It's also a better than the previous listings, both visually and logically (not listing stuff twice). The only thing missing is (Steam) UI missing right there for "includes 3 routes" for the core.

    A perfectly acceptable quirk is, new players can pick up the core routes at 40% off but existing ones can't (and it will apply on top of the seasonal sale discount). Seriously not a complaint, I can wait a month or two and got the game during flash sale, when they were a thing.

    I'd vouch for a couple more regional editions, someone is asking for Swiss and there could be an ÖBB.
    Even though the current regionals are smaller, but I think a "megapack" for those above could work.

    Same here. I can only gift the core and entirely locked out of Deluxe. (Which is what I purchased last/this year - Swiss.)
    Maybe someone still needs to run a reset, or you need to restart Steam to pick up the new internal bundle.

    Seems to be just you, I'm fine. The game loaded incredibly quickly for me (loading into the new Chatham Main Line took about ten seconds, which feels like an improvement but light just be the cache). Performance is roughly the same, Victoria with the Class 205 is an unplayable 20fps. Getting out of the station the FPS raised to 30. Beckenham was 40FPS. Selling was 50 to 60.

    As for the intended reduction in OOM errors we'll need to wait and see over time how it affects the game. One or two OOM errors in the first few hours of the update being out doesn't mean much.

    yeah; I have problems!
    My until yesterday excellent running TS Classic, ist now not execellent running anymore. Go into Quickdrive menu, try to scroll through the pages of rollmaterial or the routes, after some pages nothing reacts anymore. Under 32bit I became the error message that Railworks.exe dont work anymore. In 64bit: nothing! No error message, only a no reacting menue/game.

    Thats exactly that of what I was feared. That someone tries to optimze the game, but achieved the opposite. Want my earlier version back
