Good evening all, I do enjoy making a good livery and have made a few with varying success over the past year or so, but at the minute I am really struggling to find a livery I fancy doing, and that hasn't already been done to a high standard on CC. So I were just wondering if anyone would perhaps be able to give me a little bit of inspiration, even if it is just a smidge to get my thoughts off the ground! To be clear I am not necessarily making a promise or owt that I will make something but of course if it takes my fancy I may have a crack. Also I have most British DLC and tend to prefer realistic/plausible liveries, though don't let me hold you back!
Hi Matt - I quite fancy having a Silverlink CL101 DMU for use on the GOBLIN mod I am putting together. I haven't checked but I can't believe that one of these has already been made. Fancy the challenge? It is plausible.......sort of Class 121 DMU at Millbrook (railcar.co.uk) Thinking about it a CL710 in the old CL313 Silverlink livery would be quite interesting too. Could happen for a nostalgia weekend. Or a route anniversary?
Hi David, I think that has done the trick, certainly seems plausible enough. I will just have a quick look to make sure there aren't already any well done versions out there, but otherwise I will give this one a crack. Thanks mate. 710 does sound interesting, though I still haven't picked up GOBLIN yet due to my lack of interest in it. Edit: Just had a look on Creators club and it does seem this hasn't been done, yet! Any particular version of the 101 you'd prefer to be used?
Hi Matt. Thanks for the offer of help. Could you please use the TVL CL101 3-car unit? That unit will sit well with me using the CL20s, CL31s and CL37s. If you are interested then another CL101 in London Overground livery would also be quite good. (Old livery or new). But I would like to see the Silverlink first as it would be a complete contrast to what we already have. By the way I would recommend GOBLIN. Yes it is an A-B route but the scenery and the CL710 are very good. Regards. David.
Hi David! Yep, will do, as that would make sense with the other stuff you're using. I will try and make a start on it tonight, though probably won't have any screenshots to share until tomorrow or Monday. Mmm, yes that is an interesting thought, I'll get the silver link done and go from there I think. I must admit I have thought about it, but I just don't think I would do more than two runs and then it would just be left sitting there. I have seen a lot of good things said about the scenery though, which is promising. Thanks, Matt.
how about a Class 465 in the current Southeastern livery? I dont think anybody has done that livery yet but if youre interested in doing so?
Interesting, by that I assume you mean the all over blue. I honestly don't know if I will give this one a crack or not, but it is a good idea mate. Thanks mate.
Here we are David, I have got the bulk of it done and now onto the details. I am not fully happy with the logo, but run you eyes over it and let me know if there is owt you want changing or isn't quite right. I would usually get my grandson to run his eyes over it but haven't seen him today. I have toned the green down a bit after taking these screenshots so it looks less like a highlighter! Thanks, Matt.
I must agree, the logo is a pain in the arse to do. I did it 3 years ago but sadly I can’t use liveries done from all previous TSW. I’m redoing the Class 313 in Silverlink livery. Are you interested to try these colors if it suits you ? I’ll post the color codes if you want.
Hi Matt, Well I'd ask my grandson for his opinion but, as he is only 2 hours old, I doubt if his opinion will carry much weight !!! I think that your livery is coming along nicely. I can now see that the green is difficult to judge properly. From your screenshots I would say that the green, and the yellow cab door, could be a bit darker (possibly by similar amounts). It might be that putting an all-over browny black type colour and then making it partly transparent could tie everything together? It certainly is a 'different' livery isn't it and quite unlike anything else on the CL101. I like it I'll see if I can knock you up that BFO we talked about before I get back onto the GOBLIN project. Regards. David.
Hi Ben, That CL313 looks good. Thanks for showing it For me, I think the green is closer to the mark. At this rate, with you two making new stock items (as well as Pinza-Dave) I'd better pull my finger out and finish my GOBLIN paths, formations and scenarios. I think we are going to end up with quite an interesting, and colourful, final result here. (And I haven't even mentioned your 315s ) Regards, David
Hi David, That Class 313 used* to look good. Sadly because of a bug on the livery editor, all my work done on previous iterations aren’t showing up properly. It means I have to redo around 200 liveries again, because DTG don’t really care about fixing such thing. Especially an important feature like the livery editor. I think at the end your Goblin line will looks like so busy
I have done some changes to the green and I do think it looks significantly better (see below), but if it isn't too much hassle I would appreciate the colour codes, as I am shocking at finding small changes in the shade of a colour so could still be a mile off! Congratulations David, have a nice look in your wallet/on your bank account as it will never have that much in it again! Good on your son/daughter, though I do think he wouldn't be of much help here! Like I say I had already made changes but hadn't screenshot them, though I did do that before I left for work this morning so I'll put them below. I think it is much closer, especially once some light weathering is applied, but again cast your eye over it and let me know! I will be cracking on with some work on the logo when I get home tonight, but as said it is a real bugger. Yes, I do think it looks much nicer on the 101 than I first thought it would, a shame we can't paint the buffers white as that would finish off the look!. Lovely stuff, I have just seen that, so thanks for doing that mate! Before (Right) vs After (Left) Matt.
I’m in the same position as yours, sometimes it is a pain to find the good shade, you move a little and it looks completely off ! I tried to find the perfect shade for the Silverlink livery but it’s a bit difficult, taking in consideration that most of the pictures/videos available are a bit old but yeah give it a try. Purple: H 271, S 70, V 33, A 255 White: H 0, S 0, V 90, A 255 Green: H 87, S 77, V 68, A 255 Yellow: H 47, S 100, V 84, A 255
Yes, this one has caused me a few issues with the colour, as every image seems to make the green look different, and I can't match up the one in TSW to any of them! Thanks for those codes, I will bash those on and get the grandson to get some screenshots when he is over tomorrow so I can show how it is looking with those, as I start earlier than I thought I did tomorrow so need to get some decent kip! Thanks for those codes though mate, hopefully they'll knock the nail on head!
Well you did say you wanted a challenge to inspire you I should be able to crack on myself tomorrow and try and start finalizing my formations. (The paths process seems OK mind so that's good). And on the new grandson front, Lennon (8lbs 4oz) and his mum are out of hospital and are now recovering at home. Shouldn't be too long before we can get him interested in trains
All these liveries shown look great! I worked on one of my own today, a Metro 158, I'm quite proud of it but there's definitely some more little details to be added but I'll add them in due course. Those details being the little overhead live wire signs (any tips on how to stop them from being insanely blurry?) https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/146326
I think these have done just the job, thanks no end for these mate: My best attempt, left vs Your codes, right: And I'll tell you something: it has done just that! Lovely stuff, my plan is to have this out tomorrow so that will be perfect. As you may have seen I have got the logo looking closer and so just need to get a few safety bits on, light weathering, classification bits and try and find some numbers for the individual units. That is good to hear, a nice name choice as well actually. Hope they are both feeling well, I am sure one will be easier to get the answer out of than the other. Haha, yes, not long and I am sure a trip down to your local line with him for some 'fresh air' will do him some good. The trains will just be a coincidence!
Thanks mate, that is a throw back seeing one of those sat in Donny, a very nice livery in real life (though not compared to the blue our trains wore!) and it does look like you have done a good job there with that. Unfortunately I don't know any tricks for the OHLE signs, but that is a rather annoying issue. Thanks for sharing that mate.
Thank you! Colours are probably a tiny bit off but nothing too bad I don't think - I am actively working on it to make it the best it can be, the OHLE signs being the next thing I plan to do and then after that just any little bugs/issues I spot! Glad you like it, I thought it might've sparked some memories for you!
No sweat! Again like here, with it being a livery from the earlier days of 'Privatisation' photo evidence isn't great and every picture is likely appearing to be a different colour, but yours certainly looks about right, from memory. Of course that is to my eye, which as per above isn't great with colour differentiation! Yes, I suppose it is just those fiddly repetitive bits you have got to get done now, also I assume you have realised, but in case not the orange line is missing on the front of the unit. Also a fiver is telling me that it were significantly more complicated to do than it looks! Haha, yes very much so, good times back then!
Fun Fact: I did originally do the orange line on the front but couldn't get it right and got annoyed so completely got rid of it. It's a billion times harder than you'd think... Yep, I'll get those fiddly, repetitive bits done in due course, won't be too long as it annoys me myself having little things like that missing. Glad it looks okay to you at least, you're the only one that's actually given any feedback as of now so it's greatly appreciated!
To stop the OHLE signs going blurry, group them with something else on the same plane, e.g. either another OHLE sign or the running numbers. You could even clone the OHLE and just group the two together. Works for me.
I've tried that but it seemed to make them even blurrier! Unless it only does that in the actual livery designer and not in the actual game... Either way I'll try it sometime tomorrow! Thanks for the tip!
Well done with the Silverlink CL101 livery. It's looking great now. (I presume you are planning to upload the version on the right?). It's funny how we all see colours. Personally I prefer the yellow on the right and the green on the left (but that's just me ). However I then think that my choice isn't quite 'day-glo' enough. So what do I know. Mind you the logo on the right is definitely an improvement. If you are still looking for inspiration, and something a bit unusual to do, then I would love a Class 20 that looks like this for a Peak Forest project. RMC_1307_Peak_Forest | RMC Roadstone Sentinel 0-6-0 shunter (I am already making one of my 'fake' Sentinels in this livery but want something with a bit more oomph to act as a shunter). In fact I would like a number of different single Class 20s in a bit to take on this role. (I have been 'playing' with Cl08's and limestone hoppers but they can't move very many full ones). I thought you might like the challenge of (a) scaling up the livery - 2 tone blue and red a (b) making the Cheetah logo.....and then fathoming out where to put it on a 20 As I know you like anything in BR Blue here are, possibly, more CL08s than you will have ever seen in one-shot. All of these are Formations that I have got into the game and then 'tested' in Free Roam. 16 out of 18 formations correctly appeared. 2 (PFR mineral wagons) would not appear in their loaded state so I need to investigate that a bit more. And this is why I will need some more powerful shunters (CL20x2 + PFR Limestone Hoppers). A pair of Choppers will only just about get a rake of 18 loaded hoppers out of Peak Forest heading north. So a CL08 has no chance moving very many on its own. (I was very pleased to get these hoppers into a new formation as, as that moment, they don't work in the 'official' formation manager). Poor old Angie is completely knackered after trying to pull 7 loaded hoppers, and getting nowhere. I'll take a couple off and then see what happens. Mind you it takes time getting formations in and out of the game and then, once you have done it, you notice a horrible spelling mistake and have to start all over again (And that is assuming the game doesn't crash in-between). Still, onwards and upwards?
Ah, yes fair enough, it curves with the front doesn't it so I would imagine that to be a bit of a bugger! Same here, they are the most annoying to do, but the most annoying to be missing. Like I say no sweat mate, it does look lovely! Yep, the right hand one, yes it is strange how we all have the same names for colours but see them all slightly differently. I must admit I have already got another livery lined up for the 20, but I can certainly have a crack at that as well. Does sound as if it'd be more useful than the 08s and would sound and look ever so much better when performing the task as those 20s do have a rather wonderful charm to them. That would be a scene in real life, all that's missing is a Peak on the Manc express and it would be not far off perfection! I must admit this formation designer is very nice and certainly come in handy for creating my Skeggie set with your MKIs and Dave's Choppers, strange how it won't load those loaded, I assume they work fine empty?
Right I have finally got it to a good enough state to share and so here it is. If there is anything glaring I have missed do let me know, but I am certainly much happier with it now than a couple of days ago! I look forward to what you plan to use it for David! Creators Club - Silverlink Cl 101 (MA) (dovetailgames.com)
The Silverlink CL101 is perfect Matt. Thank you very much. It really is appreciated Watch this space. Ditto the Skeggy set. PS - You should get GOBLIN..........It's going to be quite alot more interesting soon
No sweat mate, glad it'll be of use! Now I do like the sound of that one! My eyes and ears will stay wide open! I don't know if you saw, but I did come very close to buying it earlier, but I am still just not convinced enough by it's offerings, though that does sound very intriguing and from what I have gathered from you so far could very much tip the balance. Look forward to it mate!
Sorry to interfere with your two's conversation.. couldn't help but wonder about the Goblin part of what you said, is this interesting thing something to do with the CC or is that something the developers are actually officially working on..? Again - sorry for interfering!
Don't worry mate, it does sound very interesting, and is a CC project David is working on for the route. Not official.
Yes she don't look too bad, what you are doing is looking very nice, certainly adding to my list of reasons to buy the route!
Have a look here if you're curious. Gameplay - Didn't Think I Would Be Able To Do This. I started off just trying to add a few paths to GOBLIN but it seems to have grown arms and legs. Now I am playing with formations to help make Scenario Creation a bit more interesting. See below. (Note that this has come from Scenario Editor and not Formation Designer or Free Roam. In fact this formation won't spawn in Free Roam as Blue/Grey). Mind you I did end up with 3 Buffets !!!
It’s ok mate I’m glad to help, if you want I have another shades of purple and green to try if you’re interested ! I’m not gonna lie, this livery gave me a little bit of headache trying to find a matching color. I tried to replicate what you did, I mean when I said that I just did the “METRO” logo and it appears fine to me. I haven’t grouped anything. I have the feeling you’re on an 8th console generation, it did that to me on PS4 but when I switched to PS5, it was better.
I'm on an Xbox Series S.. so that's possibly the issue? You'll have to show us the full livery you did - see how LOVE mine is compared to yours!
That’s probably the issue. I have some liveries to finish first but… challenge accepted ! I’ll do it tomorrow.
Here is an Unbranded version as per David's request. I apologise for the rather shabby screenshots and brief description but I must admit I got distracted by a Peak, Blue/Grey MKIs and some lovely steep climbs and forgot any concept of time! Here it is: Creators Club - Cl 101 Silverlink Unbranded (MA) (dovetailgames.com) Again David, if there is owt wrong or you want changing just let me know.
