I have to admit that the physics are a bug on Bernina that also bother me. The fact a single run takes 90-100 minutes is long enough although I would have loved to see the missing part. Apart from the physics and the missing route part it surely is a really great route though!

Yes why don't all those 1970s cars have digital screens and wi fi in them? It's up to the car manufacturer to update all the cars I've ever had to bring them up to 2024 standards for free.....

I'm hoping that the big 20th reveal will be of in-game shots for the Class 104 and Peak Forest Expansion Pack and will include the announcement that steam's physics and its functioning, including fireman operation and AI sounds, have been thoroughly re-worked to open the development of third party steam related add-ons. (well... one can dream!)

This is a piece of software.
Every type of loco has basically the same programmcode except for the skin maybe.
Even if there are features different like another pantograph as the new DB 111 has, the base of code should be the same.

If they implement a new feature e.g. a PIS on the Dosto, why don't they use this new Dosto for all routes so far..?
There is no reason to have 10 different codes for 10 of the very same Dostos with different bugs and features.
This is bad for customers and bad for themselves as the maintainance gets out of hands.
I know DTG says it is necessary because of testing. But this is bs, it just shows these bad design choices they made as software engineers.

But go on, defend this stupidity..

Ah yes the DTG light bulb moment Sam aka DTG Protagonist spoke of...I guess we are going to find out how many DTG employees it takes to change a light bulb...Sorry that wasnt supposed to sound snarky but some follow-through would be nice as it is absurd for DTG to assert loco packs are poor sellers when said locos are available elsewhere i.e. no U.S.P. I suspect we will not see this as new locos will want to be paired only with new routes as this U.S.P. practice is tested and there is a finite amount of classic locos yet to be added.

A lot of the scenery along the route is incorrect, inaccurate and make believe. The house roofs and property structures throughout are abysmal compared to the real life views.

Unlike Just Trains, whose scenery totally matches the real route. I asked Tom Harrison who admitted that they spend hours watching cab rides, visiting the routes and taking or acquiring photographs. Rivet are a Scottish company not a Swiss company and their scenery is nearly completely make believe. What saddens me is their Scottish routes are just the same. Just Trains won’t release a route until it is perfect and with their customers money totally acceptable. If Rivet adopted the same approach wouldn’t we have some fabulous offerings in the TSW franchise. Rivet can make good structures of the stations and important characteristics along a route, then totally spoil it with incorrect scenery that looks inept, shambolic, unacceptable and completely inaccurate. When with a little bother, time and effort their routes would be a lot better. Have they ever tried to correct their ineffectiveness.
    NO NEVER.

Because it is not sustainable from a development standpoint. One thing goes wrong, they have to test it for every single route it runs on and that quickly becomes a nightmare. Updating physics for example can have unintended consequences in one route which also affects all other routes. By keeping it separate, it makes it easier to fix for a specific route

According to Google Maps, the train journey from Tadami to Aizuwakamatsu takes three hours... is that correct?? If so, this would be the longest route ever!

Possibly longest duration to drive the route. The distance is only 88km but it's a narrow gauge railway where the max speed of the trains is 65kmh (40 mph).

My guess is that some services in the timetable will be split into parts like they've done on some of the slower speed US routes.

I think there are services around three hours long which is going to be fun. Complaints about the poor save game capabilities in TSW will no doubt increase as many players will not be able to do that in one sitting. Myself, I’ll be settling in for some serious simming sessions. It’s going to be great.

Well three hours at track speed...which some people will complain is "too slow" I'm sure, like they do with Cajon Pass. CJP takes hours too to run the whole thing because you creep along at low speeds for half of it.

Depends on what you mean by "longest."
    Mileage it won't be.
    Time spent driving?
    Maybe....
I have no problem with slower routes with great scenery.
Slow is fine if you're appreciating it.
I don't play the game to go super fast. I play it to relax and taking a leisurely run through the countryside is beautiful.

Assuming SIM Track Studios has finally decided which locomotive to develop.
It's been shrouded in fog for months.
Did they decide to ask Santa for advice?

You are saying you are building up to the grand reveal at the end of the year. I believed it was going to be Friday December 20th, the last day of the three weeks of reveals. Has this now been changed to NYE?

I already started the complaining because of the length of WCMLOS. I need 3-4 sessions to make a complete run on account of having a wife, I mean life, outside of TSW. ;)

Not sure whether I'll get Tadami. It sounds a lot like Niddertalbahn- beautifully made but ages fast.

The problem is not that it doesn't work well for one service in one route. It's that there's only one slot, which means that you can't save two services at once ( as I said elsewhere, that's something MSTS had 22-23 years ago. We're still in the Middle Ages in some respects with TSW. )

So, we still don't see any type of livelihood in the route screenshots, no traffic, no pedestrians/passengers. Also I think some of these photos were already seen.

It did state the route should be ready to go next year, but was hoping for some more progress shots today.....

More info on Tadami is hardly a reveal, we already knew the route was coming and 95% chance the train would be the Kiha 140 so hardly something all new. It would have more credibility to have provided an actual release date, not just a cryptic “next year”. This route seems to have been in development for ages and the more cynical like me begin to wonder if has turned to vapourware.

Try and give us a genuine new item we haven’t heard about for the rest of the event, please.

Ouch, i dont see it that hard, but i understand frustrated players who think that way.

Rivet as the oldest 3rd party had so many chances to get things right, learn and show a bit of passion.
Seems customers are not annoyed by the bugs or subpar releases, its the fact Rivet isnt coming back to fix their content and isnt listening to communitys feedback. (I read literally more than 50x times in posts / feedback about the broken cl170 running sounds)

Its a bad sign if tsw fans think "holy gosh please no cl.90 made by rivet", or "please not that route made by them".

I personally hope for another section of the rhb network with a Ge6/6. Thats something i would cosider to buy on the same quality level of the bernina route. Its weired rivet keeps silent, fife circle feels like abandonware now..

    Maybe I'm a hopeless optimist,
    I still think they'll take a look.
Otherwise how do Skyhook get on with their update to add to Rivets update ?

We need something new for germany. Im not saying the 111 gameplaypack is bad at all, but nothing except the pantograph of the 111 is new. Like UK got a route, Us got a loco dlc, Uk got another loco dlc and germany got, an update for a route timetable which wasnt even an update and more of a reminder it exists (still existed for the Joes new TT, dont get me wrong), but i think there are chances for some already very promissing looking projects that got silent to get an announce, just like Mildmay line. As its still not confirmed that the br 420 will come to FTF. Or a loco dlc for a existing route and it would, as mentioned here before, to finally get simtrack to reveal the German Loco, as its more than long enough on the roadmap to be a secret. (Praying for Dec. 20th to announce preservation crew comeback)

  32. I have a feeling that this "big" reveal is going to be disappointing. We have had so many "big" announcements in the past that underdelivered or weren't big at all. Epic Games in 2021, the consoles in 2018, the multiple DTG directs which end up being paid updates that slap a new layer of paint on the game. I am not expecting much from the reveal, and no one else should either.

    Compared to...what?
Hear me out. Go through that thought process.
DTG doesn't choose Rivet for routes.
Rivet tells DTG they are doing a route like other third party developers.
So if the people saying "no more Rivet routes" are to be believed, then that means no new routes.
It's "high quality or nothing" would mean.... nothing probably.
Are people really willing to stick to that position?

DTG can't really be blamed for the quality of their third party developers.
It's whoever brings them things to put up for sale.
They are just providing a marketplace for others to sell their stuff.
It's like blaming the farm market if a farmer has "terrible" vegetables on display.

Would those people ban that farmer from the market?

I guess it goes down to what quality you "need" in your vegetables and trains. I don't think Fife Circle was bad for example, so I'd be fine with them doing other routes. Others might disagree. However, that misses the larger point.... shouldn't it be up to the individual buyers to make that decision? They seem to sell quite a bit even with their "reputation" so someone is buying all that Rivet content. Someone is choosing to part money for it. If they didn't, Rivet wouldn't keep making it.

So it's unfair to limit what Rivet can offer if other people are still enjoying it.
Just because one personally doesn't like it.

The people that don't like Rivet stuff.... don't have to buy it.
It's not a core part of the game.
    It's DLC.
You don't have to buy it nor install it.
In fact you will ONLY see it if you buy AND install it.

Then the same people complain there's "not enough content coming out".....

Oh are we in for a "big" reveal later today?

I think it will be another free revamp. Birmingham Cross City would be my favourite, it's a lovely route to drive but little to no AI traffic.
Is that a "big" enough reveal? Class 730 pack for the above line in orange and WCML south green 5 car units would be pretty amazing.

It’ll most likely be something German today.

either Mittenwaldbahn or Kaiserslautern is my guess, or even the Simtrack German Loco

actually, there is. They have explained this several times but if a loco gets re-used in a DLC it could have the unintended consequence of breaking it in older routes. Requiriing more work on the developers. just imagine one dosto with all the bugs from the different versions.

The “Big Reveal” presumably on Friday. It will need to be something quite spectacular to top the JT package announced last week.

My personal hope at least, is a reprieve for steam and that behind the scenes they have been working on fixing it up. Along with a new route and traction package, possibly BR/GWR Riviera Line from Exeter to Kingswear perm any two out of four, Castle, Hall, Prairie Tank or Pannier Tank. Or the Somerset and Dorset ideally all the way from Bath to Bournemouth but would take Templecombe. Locos perm any two from S&D 53xxx, 9F, Black Five or BR Standard Class 5 (plus the 4F layering in from PFR).

Bad enough that there not only exist different graphical standards for every route in TSW but also physical.
Because of this clearly this whole product seems like a badly fixed mess.

Would be the same if you would need in Flight Simulator for every flightplan another plane.

Yes Rivet doesn’t bother about after sales care. As long as they have taken our money for their sub-standard work that’s acceptable to them!
