I've not tried guard mode yet, believe it or not. I keep meaning to get around to it.

So i just watched a video on YouTube that describes the teleporting feature as a “cool little feature” because the concourse was too much to model… or words to those affects… sigh… will agree to disagree on this opinion…

It’s alright. I just wish there was a difficulty option to treat giving two against a red as a SPAD as it would be IRL.

My personal "customer feature" for any further dtg content is the new introduced "No Buy Button".

Means the hype will be teleported elsewhere....
Really cant believe blindly supported the franchais almost 3 years with day 1 purchaises and wanted to forgive devs any bugs for their learning curve blabla bla.

As a customer i had my learning curve. Since quality isnt a primary focus, i really dont see a point either to spend too much time with tsw.

Before closing the doors, if I'm at a red signal I give it a chance to become green.

Which surprisingly works every time. Although if I wanted, I could still close the doors on a red. But the neat thing is you don't have to. Don't know if this works with all routes though.

"I´ve got an idea: let´s make one bit of route really amazing, so they can´t resist to buy it. The rest we´ll do fast and dirty".

And that’s the thing… the dlc IS for me. I just can’t stand the corner cutting that’s been made…

Just love how no one from the Dovetail Team has communicated anything on this forum. Would be nice to get acknowledgement and address these issues we have put. Hate to be harsh but they are scared of our feedback.
But again always an ongoing issue it is so nothing new.

Not sure if this is just me but the route actually looks better in Dadrails videos than it did in the DTG streams? Apart from the dodgy bit at Whitchurch and the clean area around the depot. Gonna have a rewatch of the preview stream to see if it's just me or if there is some difference though!

It could be that DTG was using a lower bitrate for their streams and DadRail was an actual video?

    I don’t know - I don’t think it’s changed, happy to be corrected.

There has been criticism of DTG streaming quality on recent prerelease clips - the Ludwig one for Germany looked awful lo res, like watching a DVD on a 65” 4K TV!

I did think the same with BA’s too but then he did show off much less of the route. A big change for me was the buildings didn’t look as over contrasted around Cardiff Central.

Pleasantly surprised too as he was on a PS5 & uploaded in 1080p. Then again the steam from DTG wasn’t great quality - that in itself as an issue we’ve had before & there was a period where DTG were making a fuss out of getting it sorted out, but it’s not really improved IMO.

The thing is though that ultimately the route is very small & you’re going to want to do things across all of it & even within the 10mile stretch BA shown off, there were still stand out bits which didn’t look good at all.

Overall I would say BA at least, did a better job at showing off the good parts of this DLC in 30/40mins, than DTG did in about 2 hours.

I think the steam quality from DTG, Jamie shouting into his Mic, awkward answering of questions & Matt trying to defend things which simply aren’t good enough, did a fair bit of work in achieving the poor reaction we’ve seen so far.

    Agreed.

I also found it interesting, how they kept reiterating they always work with multiple partners on their routes/projects. Now this could just be me. But I don't think the number of partners being worked with, was what some in the community had issue with.

It certainly comes over a lot better in the streams I’ve watched today, than in the preview.

I still think some of the buildings aren’t great. But in places it actually looks really good and I really like the 153.

One really minor thing that gets on my nerves though are the collectibles. They are very obvious in a few places and will never disappear. Once you collect a love spoon there will forever be a cushion left on the platform. And with the Welsh cakes there will be a plate left behind. It may be a small thing but it’s really annoying.

Anyway, not getting it day one, but not ruling out getting it in a few weeks once I’m bored with my other routes.

May be dtg were using earlier builds. Dad rail had the latest one.

They had a similar thing with fife circle and it's not half bad scenery wise now.

Watching TheBritishAce vid of closing the doors on a red, very frustrating.

I think it’s to do with the next instruction as you go onto the single line. If you look on the Coryton branch at Heath Low Level towards Cardiff, the signal “steps up” as soon as you’ve completed the arrival instruction.

*correction* "I've got an idea: let's make one bit of the route ourselves really well and then we'll palm the rest off on Rivet as we need to build an add on for toddlers"

DTG already said Rivet was involved - and probably heavily so

DTG are playing smoke and mirrors around the Rivet situation... "We work with several developers... " Which I personally think boils down to: "we done the 153 in house and the route along with the 150 were produced by Rivet". So whilst they aren't exactly lying by saying several developers were involved, they are not exactly specific either... For a company willing to give Rivet glowing reviews, they sure are shady and unwilling to expand on any information regarding their involvement. Surely if you had confidence in a company you'd stand by your convictions and have no issue with naming Rivets involvement with their work?

I've watched a few different streams now and I'm still really not impressed or swayed over in anway. If we compare the route to JTs Blackpool to Ormskirk in the Pacer, JTs offering completely out shines this route in every way. Surely, new TSW5 content should either be equal or above the quality previous content and a slight evolution going forward? This just seems bland. The timetable not being 1:1, the scenary and route looks mediocre, and just because it has a few patches of grass in one location does not give it a boost in anyway. It just does not appear to have the edge or playability it could well have... Is this the future we have to look forward to, just accepting this standard? Or is it a sign DTG are moving onto the next title in the game or completely new gaming engine for TSW, hence why the quality is declining in the current title whilst DTG secretly work and focus their attention and internal resources on a large project in the backround that will transpire to be a completely new game and successor to the current version of TSW? Is this is the beginning of the end for this current variant of TSW? And are these mediocre outsourced content releases cash cows to finance the new title in the short term? It doesn't take a lot of detective work to come to such conclusions.

If that is the case they are leaving really bad taste in peoples mouth with quality, and enough damage to their image that they may fianlly scare of the retained and consistent hard core players of the game which have seen it through thick and thin... Big core issues, mediocre content? It doesn't look and feel good at the moment...

This route/network should have £19.99 price point all over it. Not a chance worth the £29.99. They'd have converted a lot maybes to purchasers.

This whole business of who made what in which route is, to me at least, a guessing game.

When we review or buy a dlc none of us really knows who's fingers are in the pie. in the case of UK routes I would take DTG at Its word, viz: " we work with several developers. "

For all we know, any one or more of the studios currently working with DTG could have contributed to this or that route.

You can say you see the DNA of a particular studio in a route, but you really don't know. There might not be a single route in the entire TSW catalog that is the work exclusively of one studio.

So I think this discussion should end and we should all buy or not buy based on quality and price rather than who we think built what.

Agreed, for all we know Rivet had a part in the Gospel Oak to Barking Suffragette line and everyone sings the praises of that!

However, the timetable is undoubtedly a Rivet timetable! Not the sort we’d see from Joe from DTG.

It doesn't matter who did what on the scenery. But as has been said a lot some of the buildings and just the lack of detail in places is the issue despite who did it. But it does look like it's been done by two different teams? Some of it is beautiful and other bits just suffer a bit

I woke up this morning feeling tempted, then remembered 1. It’s 30 quid and 2. Done a few too many refunds on Steam lately so, no, it can wait for a sale.

Going to grab this around 5pm later. (Got a long day at college today.) Will share my initial thoughts here and report bugs in the feedback threads.

Any screenshots or anything you wanna see before you buy. Lmk and I'll post here.

A honest assessment of the 150 sounds and physics vs. the original WCL version would be appreciated by many.

I think it would be wrong for DTG to decide against network routes if this doesn't sell.
There are many metrics that go into purchase decisions, especially with the rising cost of everything we need in our daily lives.

    For example. I love little networks but I'm not buying this one because;
    1. Sorry Wales but I'm not that interested in Welsh routes as it's not a part of the country I get to visit very often.
    2. I grew up with electric trains, unless it's a classic loco (37/40/52/55 for me) I don't really enjoy driving diesels.
    3. I'm broke and being careful with my purchases at the moment.
    4, The lukewarm reviews.

As I said before, I'll pick it up in a sale at some point in the next few years but only for the Class 153 as I think it will end up layering-in on future routes' timetables.

You’d think dtg would get all their partners and devs in a room and rather than split routes to different parties actually work on all routes together utilising the strengths of each developer?

So devs who are strong in timetables work on timetables for all routes.

Devs strong at building stations and line side detail work in that.

World builders would use their expertise to construct the map.

Distant scenery would be done solely by those that are very good at it.

Trains and locos built by those that produce the best.

If you sorted that out every route would be stellar would it not and you’d have all round work for every partner.

I’m very much in a difficult situation to buy it or not. If they included like Barry Island Terminus and Aberdare? Like they did with BCC which was well worth the £30 but The amount of short cuts they done this route, the ‘I can’t be arsed’ mentally with the concourse and also the teleport to opposite platform which is just quite frankly unacceptable.
AI timetable, surely you could have put a Tfw livery on the EMT 158. Just like Johannes did with the unbranded liveries.
    No Rail tours?
It isn’t worth £30 in the slightest. £18 I say. Doesn’t deserve the £20. Not going to be paying for a route with tones of shortcuts.

You’re right Matt. Huge conflict. As I said earlier, part of me wants to thrash the 153 even if it’s just a bus stop service and not the Central Wales Line. Then the voice of reason kicks in and tells me not worth £30. The stupidity of DTG marketing is, had they pitched this at £25 then offered 10% off for prerelease purchase at £22.50, many of us would have given it a shot. But they got greedy…

    Hi,

If the 150/153s were to be reskinned into Northern or Regional Railways colours could they be used on the Blackpool and other routes?

    Thanks,

Looks like a decent route tbh going by the recent streams/vids, nice network feel with plenty of playability, not a2b. A few adverse signals as well, always helps, approach control looks to be modelled which didn't appear in E2G/Fife (if Rivet made this route which is what a few folks believe). 153 looks like a fun unit to drive, had the brake rub sounds I think, which always adds to the feel of driving an old train (not to the level of openbve though). Tempted, but I think I'll hold out for the ATS route and get Cardiff in a few months.

I don't really know tbh. I assume you can just walk across the tracks. But it means they haven't modelled the tunnel leading to other platform if it is a tunnel ofc. CymruGiard Would know I think

OldVern I genuinely might have to get it and see for myself. Hate paying into products that don't deserve a £30 price tag but for the TfW Branding and 153 think I am gonna have to get it and be annoyed at myself! Can;t resist the urge!

The North West saw mainly 150/1’s rather than 150/2’s. Era wise the 153’s weren’t converted from 155’s until the latter were displaced from Western Provincial by the arrival of the 158’s in the early 90’s so would not have been seen on Blackpool or other 80’s based routes until much later.

Sorry guys just bought it. I couldn't resist I always wanted TfW in the game and the 153 and here we are. Have to test it out for myself and give honest feedback. At Least this time it is marked as a Dovetail route not a Rivet route so Dovetail have lots of responsibility on there side
