Some devs (us) use headlight flares to get the proper look and had the settings dialed to look right before they borked the core.

Everyone should spam DTG with support tickets on broken headlights, one for each DLC/train that you have where the headlight doesn't work. And leave a bad review on Steam as well.

The option to go back to 75.8a and it not be updated by Steam would be useful.

That’s what I’ve done. Steam allows you to reinstall any version that you’ve owned before using steam console commands, then you just have to run it once and then copy the folder elsewhere from what I remember.

There are instructions on the forum somewhere on how to do it.

Edit : here is the thread with the details https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...ly-install-old-ts-versions-next-to-tsc.71041/

Train Simulator Classic was first featured in 2023. They then went with TSC 2024 and now back to Train Simulator Classic in the not too far future

Yes, thank you I am aware of this by Spikee 1975 but I would prefer not to have to have two versions active even on separate discs. I would prefer to have ver 75.8a ONLY.

That’s all I have. I won’t be buying anything else for TSC from steam so once I had 75.8a installed, I just renamed the folder so steam doesn’t see it anymore. It works fine. I can still install 3rd party stuff like AP packs. I didn’t find a downside yet and have working headlights and AP Weather.

Plus I lost too much time having to reinstall stuff after steam decided to force a file verification, so now I run it completely standalone and don’t have the problem.

I do have a backup on an external hard drive should I ever need the latest version for anything.

Would still be better if DTG would fix what they broke with the last update.

There are a few brick walls I know who would be more receptive to your complaints than DTG.

I have only 75.8a installed. Download it per Spikees instructions and then just copy it over the the normal installation. Just be sure answer yes when it want to overwrite files. To make sure you don't get file verifications make sure to remove the file 'verify_cache_key' from the Railworks folder before you start TSC. I always start TSC via a bat-file that removes verify_cache_key if present and then starts TSC.

Did the core stream video release? It is scheduled for today. I looked on YouTube but don't see it. Is there a link to the stream?

No stream as advertised, no apology, no explanation. Sums up this third rate organisation perfectly!

It got cancelled? I don't see any official communication from one of the DTG staff that the update has been cancelled, unless I am looking in the wrong place?

It is obvious that DTG does not want to have any conversations on this
    con·ver·sa·tion /ˌkänvərˈsāSHən/
    noun
    noun: conversation; plural noun: conversations
a talk, especially an informal one, between two or more people, in which news and ideas are exchanged.
Development by DTG has stopped and only 3rd party are making content as long as it is economically feasible.

There is no core update this year just a pack of 3 routes as per Jamie they don't mess with the core anymore in the update article.

The one DTG route is a re-release and if you read between the lines all they plan on doing is publishing 3rd party DLC.

Got it, I was just really hoping DTG would find a way to fix the remaining issues with the latest build without causing any damage or breaking anything in game, but in this case, I guess it's just best to permanently stick with v75.8a to get the best experience in TSC overall. While it requires a bit of manual work installing new content from steam with that build, I'd rather that, than have to correct an issue DTG should really be addressing. I got my hopes up initially because we've gone 1 year without any real changes to the innards of TSC.

Reading the article it does seem that DTG are quietly giving up on TSC, and that may be something to to with their parent company; I am convinced that many at DTG care about TSC but it needs a lot of work that it isn't likely to get. TSC needs to survive somehow and as some have suggested open sourcing the core may be a way to keep it alive and give us something to run all the add-ons that have appeared throughout the years unmodified.
Microsoft Train Simulator was abandoned but you can still play all of its content through OpenRails: so perhaps we need something like this so that we can still play our historic routes into the future on Windows 14, or maybe even some sort of Wine implementation on Steam Deck and Linux.

Agreed, once Focus came into play I guess overseeing DTG, the development of TSC has slowly but surely come to a halt. If this is all true, I just wish the devs would tell us instead of being silent about it. It's hard to see there being a future for TSC if we're not getting any announcements or communications. I just miss the development updates we used to get. The only things I have seen releasing are scenario packs to existing routes, primarily freight. I hope I am wrong about what I am saying but with no communication in the last few months and no mention of the core stream we were supposed to get yesterday, I am little by little losing hope for TSC, as TSW gains more and more traction

That is their plan. Squeeze out as much you can and keep quiet. I wouldn’t care if they had done a good job with TSW. I’m happy with my TSC collection. The money is with the captive audience with console platforms - which therefore nurfs the pc capability. Small routes with repetative timetable scenarios.

Just what would you like to see on TSC? It seems to me to be working pretty darn good since the last round of updates.

If anyone at DTG reads these forums and cares what I think, here it is:
I am very disappointed with this news. There was such hope and excitement when development resumed a few years ago, but all of a sudden you just quit. If breaking things is your fear, then at least fix the bugs that are out there and provide some overdue UI enhancements. Unfortunately it seems that you have once again moved on from TSC, leaving behind a devoted community that has invested hundreds (and maybe even thousands) of dollars into this game and its addons. Hopefully one day you make this code open source so the community can give it the tender, love, and care that TSC deserves.

I am glad you wrote this and i can just quote it for truth, because my wording would have been much terser, and gone into a certified rant…..

FIX THE THINGS THAT WAS BROKEN IN THE LAST BETA. Signal scripts, headlight flares and engines derailing on roundtables.

GIVE US THAT, and then you can call it quits. That would at least be decent.

    Indeed!
There may be some complications with open sourcing though like the presence of code licensed to DTG by another developer: if that were the case DTG could open source their code only, and the community could fill in any gaps.

    Does anybody remember Netscape Communicator?
When Netscape was struggling a solution to continue development was an open source project to advance the browser with the Mozilla browser suite with Netscape able to use this for their official releases. Now with Netscape long dead the legacy survives in some very popular web clients; Train Simulator Classic could survive in a similar fashion and DTG could still profit from publishing branded releases with content packages.

Train Simulator content is art in its own right and it is very important that it be preserved.

I am sure that this came from Focus Entertainment. When you are bought out and get an infusion of cash for development you play by the money's rules. Plain and simple this was a business decision. Let 3rd party content semi-manage and put your priorities elsewhere.
I have done a little research and found out that there are not enough new players to offset older players leaving the game for various reasons and that sales of new content are not as brisk as it used to be. Older players have more content than they could ever finish playing and therefore buy less than newer players. New gamers are migrating to more realistic looking sims and having the ability to use consoles to play them is a big market. The old code is the issue, only so much can be done without reworking all of it or start from scratch. Any more development would be to costly and wouldn't be able to recoup the cost. This is why TSW was created and built from scratch. On DTG's end it was a wise decision they followed the stats. I will continue to play until they pry my cold dead fingers from my keyboard.

Yes, this is the one we're already discussing, we thought there might have been a new one explaining why they "forgot" the promised stream

I'd like them to fix the bugs that we didn't have before that have been introduced with v77.6b, one of them being headlight flares partially broken. For the time being, I have reverted back to build 75.8a to enjoy the original TSC

I am running on V78.1a and the headlight flare issue has been fixed and elsewhere someone complained about signals not working properly. They seem to work fine here at least.

v78.1a is the experimental beta for Train Simulator, not the official production build that most people use. While the headlight flares are fixed in the experimental build v78.1a, it breaks train turntables from functioning properly. While red signal bugs don't exist on a few routes, quite a number of routes have the red signal bug, meaning you have to be on the lookout for those signals and request to pass them at danger. v78.1 has been in testing for almost 1 year now with no progress being made it seems. I am running v75.8a if there are scenarios that I have completed that don't reflect in the latest public build, I can modify the career.xml file with notepad++ if/when I return back to the latest public build, v77.6b

I'll try a turntable later today. I only run USA and Canadian stuff and have found no instances of signal malfunction.

On 78.1a experimental, you'll find the red signal bug on the NJT NJCL route, Hudson Line, New Haven Line and NEC. There may be even more routes as well from what others have mentioned but for the short time that I have used 78.1a, I encountered red signals on these rotues.

The signal issue seems to only maifest itself on some of the DTG routes none of the third party stuff that I mostly frequent. Perhaps someone could prod DTG into fixing this.

I tested this on the BLE route and it was fine (6 coupled) as long as I only moved it one track over at a time. When I tried a longer move the locomotive started drifting forward until it ran off the end. Is that the issue you are talking about?

I have already purchased all three routes when previously offered in the game. Does this new pack extend these routes to make it worth purchasing?

If not, what is the advantage of purchasing this new to be released package? I don’t see any!!!

If you try to turn a locomotive on a turntable, the turntable rotates but the locomotive stand still and derails (if brakes are applied) If you release the brakes before you press G/Shift+G then it works.

Its just like before, if you already have the routes you get the free update. This time the update contains a whole new loading image when you start TSC, and the name changes from Train Sim Classic 2024 to Train Sim Classic.
