I looked forward to TSW when it was first announced and was disappointed when it arrived. I found the having to leave the cab to couple up irritating and unrealistic. I have tried TSW2 but that was just as bad and I mean as bad. The ability to create in TSC far outscores TSW in every way warts and all.
As other have writen here before. I also prefer the TSC visuals over the TSW ones.I dont really see that much TSW has over TSC. It suits all the different moods i have in the course of a year. Routebuilding, creating scenarios, driving steam, modern british and sometimes american freight. I have been looking at the player count for TSC and TSW over the last couple of weeks and i like to believe there are quite a few that prefer TSC over TSW. TSC had a 4% to 8% higher player count evertime i checked. I know there are consoles and that not everybody plays online, but its still impessive that this 15 year old software does so well compared to the newer stuff.
No, I much prefer how TS looks as well. The colours accuracy is a lot better, with the lighting being more natural pretty much all the time. There are some quirks with the lighting system, but it's never the assault on the eyes that TSW is during the day. The anti-aliasing is also enormously better than TSW.
In my opinion (and for what that’s worth!) the mistake DTG made was to make TSW cut off from the community. I’ve dabbled in route building in TSC and been frustrated with the jaggy cuttings and annoying gradients foibles etc, but at least I can do it. I really hoped that TSW would build on the amazing community and continue to thrive, but alas not. I guess the move to consoles mostly did for that, but hey ho. I do wish they’d spend a little engineering time on TSC to keep it current, but guess that’s not where the money is!
I feel the same way in regards to TSW and have brought up numerous times in the forums that they should make the route editor easier to use for the community so people can make their own routes or customize existing ones. I feel that DTG does not want to make it easier to use in fear of losing profits and wants total control of which routes are available. The community is what has kept TSC alive after all of these years and would do the same for TSW. Time will tell with TSW, but TSC is surely not dead.
yeah i prefer tcs too, at least for the reason it has that old school vibe charm to it in terms of graphics you know what im saying? also greater route variety and the fact i dont have to be a programmer or some shi- to use the editor
Have any of you had a surprising email from Steam Sounds Supreme? They say they are now facing an uncertain future and asking for tips/donations to keep going and upgrade computers and recording equipment. I presume they are no longer making the sales they once did, so to me it's another sign that TSC is slowly going the way of all flesh. It wouldn't surprise me if Caledonia Works fall off their perch soon, as many of their locos are very niche.
Yes, so received. I have just paid a considerable bill (for me, retired) having been forced (sooner or later) to move to Win 11 (just to feed Microsoft (again)), and one of my 2 computers will have to wait until doomsday, so what it's like for a company totally dependent on its computers I dread to think. It turns a marginal business into a non business very quickly. The costs can be offset against Tax but you have to make enough profit in order to offset it.
One could suppose a lot of TSC commercial 3rd parties are now having difficulties making ends meet due to 'too much competition' resulting in diminishing sales volumes. Also, a lot of these creators have been around since MSTS and are getting of age, or have already passed away. There is still a market for reasonably priced good quality DLC I think. 15-20 for a loco DLC seems reasonable to me. 25-30 for a route w/o rolling stock also. CW has done a lot of 'Victorian kettles', and indeed, is there really a market for this ancient stuff? On the Discord he is always complaining over burn out, yet he keeps churning out those proto-lanced kettles. His Grouping Era and later LMS, SR, LNER, GWR locomotives are very nice however, and I've acquired quite a lot. As from BMG/PLD, also come excellent models which I've lamost all acquired over the years, including his carriages. Both CW and PLD still have interesting projects in development. AP, JT, DT also, TSC still has value and is worthy of new content. However, looking at jasksoft.com, asking Euro 18 for a single freight wagon model is too much money for too little trains in my opinion. Single freight cars models of quality in the 7-10 price range are OK for me.
I did not notice any single wagons for Euro 18 - most appeared to have multiple versions in a pack https://jasksoft.com/shop#!/Gedeckte-Guterwagen-Gbs-254-DB-DB-AG-Epoche-IV-V-Pack-1/p/761490905 has 8 different wagons with a different skin on each side The price is bit higher than expected when you can get a a single wagon from 3DZug for less than Euro 10 https://www.3dzug.de/?cat=c64_Gueterwagen-Gueterwagen.html
