Hi there I'm trying to complete a timetable service from the Birmingham Cross City route where I need to get a loaded aggregates train up the Lickey Incline to King's Norton. Each time I attempt it the train just crawls to a stand part way up the bank and eventually derails. The consist is 2 Class 66 pulling 17 loaded HKA's with a combined weight of 2202.6 tons. My questions are; Is it possible for the two locomotives to pull that weight up the Lickey Incline? Do I need to set up the second loco as I am unsure that it is helping? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Kind regards John
Would you have the service ID? I'll try to reproduce this tonight. That weight shouldn't be any trouble for double heading Class 66s. But the 2nd loco might be not correctly configured and you pull it just as dead weight. Which might explain why you die before the summit.
I've just done this okay. 170 timetable, mine was 1966.5 T, crawling up the Lickey at 13 mph, but got there, in dry weather. 2nd loco seemed to be active. Qualifies as an 'awesome run' with plenty of adverse signals & red stops. Thankfully not on the incline
If memory serves me correctly the maximum load for a 66 up the Lickey was 1050 tonnes without a banker. And while probably not an issue in TSW, the assistance had to be provided from the rear, not by double heading as it would put too much pull on the couplers.
Hi Jonty, I did this service last night and made it up the bank at a steady 13mph flat out notch 8! Couple of helpers: Make sure you switch banking Comm to On on the radio device above the power handle on the right, it's a small green button. That will allow power from the 2nd loco. Before setting off I fully release the train brake and fully apply the loco brake. Then I put the power to notch 2 and release the loco brake to set off smoothly. Sometimes you might need a bit of sand. Hope that helps you successfully run this service!
I remember this being "interesting" and ended up with a tiny amount of loco brake with power on which stopped the loco losing its footing, once its on its way take the brakes off.
Hi, I've driven this during the weekend and made it to the summit at 27kph in notch 8. To make sure the second loco is working, I've placed the outside camera close to the drivers window and watched the ampere meter reacting to the throttle input of the lead loco. Switch on the instrument lights in the second loco before you start your journey. The loco combination was a DB Class 66 as lead and an EMS Class 66 as trail loco. This might be an important observation since there're a zillion Class 66 versions in the game, the loco combination is usually a random choice and some versions do not work correctly on some features. You might have had such bad luck, getting a "wrong combination" and dragged the second loco as dead weight.
I seem to remember the blue DRS Class 66 and the pink ONE Class 66 do not work in tandem with the others and I don’t think the issue was ever fixed. A double header featuring one of those will not work properly and only one loco will provide traction.
