The Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range (DM&IR) is an ore hauling railroad in Northern Minnesota. Formed through a merger in 1937, the DM&IR hauls iron ore to several ports along the great lakes, where the ore was loaded onto barges to be shipped out. During the steam era, the railroad was most commonly known for its massive 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone locomotives. These locomotives were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in the early 1940's, and some deemed them to be the most powerful steam locomotives to ever be built. The railroad also had some lesser known 2-10-4's, 2-8-0's, and 0-6-0's. I feel that this route would make a great addition to train simulator, with plenty of big steam to choose from.

Great Idea. If done, operators need to be able to load and unload the iron ore cars. That would be great. I definitely want the Yellowstones and other steam. If we get diesel DLC later on, I want SD9s, SD38s, and/or SD18s.

The DM&IR is a brilliant proposal since we already have the Bessemer and Lake Erie.

Oohoohoohoohoo. Your suggestions don't cease to impress. Yet another solid 100 from me. And that's on a 0.00 to 1.00 scale too.

I would like to point out that the ore is not loaded into barges but into big boats.

Buynot now your speaking my language this would have been the next route I would have suggested and if they get the ore docks detailed to a T with where rivets would be it would payoff for the player and we could get some more modern DLC for this to add on to it like some DMIR SD38AC's, the rebuilt DMIR SD9's and SD18's that were made into SD-m's, SD9's, SD18's, and maybe even a Yellowstone for the steam era. and to make the route feel like it's after CN purchased DMIR you could get a CN livery for the DMIR diesels to feel like its a more modern route.[IMG]
this is a picture of a DMIR SD-m (take note that it looks like an SD-9 or an SD-18).

Don't forget the occasional Bessemer and Lake Erie locomotives.

I don't think a route builder would spend the time needed to get some ore docks modeled in a way that the rivet counters would be satisfied with. Getting them looking right is another story though. Certainly gotta get the look right.

BLE 2.0, I like it. The DM&IR Yellowstones are among my favorites.

The ore docks are a must for this route. The docks in two harbors is next to the classification yard. the docks in duluth, I think would be fun to go down proctor hill, switch the dock and the grind your way back up the hill.
